Jan 30 2026, beat Mirasola at BJC 2-1. Almost 99% positive he did a split after the match as the dual had ended.

Ed Michael, 73-74 season

I thought of 2 more coaches who I believe were let go for under performance, both from the same institution. Jim Beichner and John Stutzman, both from Buffalo. As I heard from one alumni, they did the least with the most resources.

As a side topic off of this..... Who is more likely to get a HC job first, Bryan Snyder or J Jaggers?
-
Another that comes to mind is Barry Davis at Wisconsin. Was it his choice to leave or was he relieved of his duties?
-
Wasn't J Robinson let go at Minnesota and CD Mock at UNC. Those 2 come to mind as being most recent.

Ohio State's History at the National Tournament
trojanhorse replied to grogs84's topic in College Wrestling
Great info. I am not an tOSU fan, but the history of any program is always intriguing. Thank you for doing this. -
Throwing this one out there, how hot is the seat of Zeke Jones out at AZST?
-
What coaches do you believe are on the hot seat going into this season? Names typically thrown around: Bono (Wisc) Brands (Iowa) Who else do you got on the list?

If you analyze this topic by conferences, it only makes sense that the Big 10, Big 12, and ACC make more schools have wrestling. Big 10, 4 schools would add - USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington Big 12, 12 schools would add if all, so half would be great - BYU, Texas Tech, Utah, Baylor, Arizona, Houston, Cincinnati, UCF, Kansas St, Colorado, Kansas, TCU. My picks here would be Arizona, Cincinnati, Texas Tech, Colorado, and Kansas St. I know it is only 5, but they are either in a location with a natural rival or close proximity to opponents to minimize travel. ACC, 11 schools if all, 5 would be great - BC, Cal, Clemson, FSU, GT, Louisville, Miami, ND (other than football, they are an ACC member), SMU, Syracuse, Wake Forest. My picks here would be Cal, GT, Louisville, ND, Syracuse, and WF (yes another Div 1 program in the state of NC) Again, natural rivalries and proximity to opponents would make it easy for them to sponsor programs and keep costs down. So, in my warped mind, 15 new/revived programs added into the mix.

I know we have had this discussion many times, but as colleges are aligning with new conferences, who should start/restart programs in the following regions: Northeast Southeast Central Northwest Southwest My suggestions would be NE - Syracuse, in the ACC now and it would provide more exposure and earning opportunities. Not to mention the local CC in Syracuse just started men's and women's programs. So that would help feed. SE - Staying in the ACC, Clemson. Helping to grow college wrestling in the south would be vital. They have had success many years ago, a restart could be beneficial and help grow a conference that has been doing well as of late. Central - Colorado, state rich in wrestling. Now in the Big XII, they can have the benefit or more revenue sharing and have matches with schools much closer. SW - Arizona, keep the rivalry with ASU going in another sport. They would be full members of the Big XII and could compete for recruits on the west coast NW - Oregon (I am dreaming, I know). They are now Big 10, that is huge for revenue generating and TV exposure. In state rivalry with ORST and just imagine the mats and uniforms they would come up with.

Most memorable NCAA moment from the least likely wrestler?
trojanhorse replied to BruceyB's topic in College Wrestling
Jenkins pinning Taylor in the finals. Realbuto (Cornell) v Miller (Kent St) -- marathon match where they couldn't get the score right and it was still wrong at the end. -
The first names that came to mind when I was reading this topic immediately were Mike Evans and Jacob Warner of Iowa. They were AAs whose matches were painful to watch because of how boring they were.
-
To be honest, 23 and 24, when they had 5 each, where was the event hosted. It was at Penn St. If he did not have all those, then what would the perception had been to host and not have many participants. Outside of the 3 years you listed, only 2017 had 3, every other one since 2013 was either 0 or 1 (David Taylor in 2013, all 0s otherwise).
-
I am not going to disagree with you. As was stated earlier, PSU wrestlers do not usually participate in this event. And then many top matchups would happen later in the year in the Big 10 conf, either through dual or the tournament. If they wrestle at the all-star, then they may avoid in the dual and diminish the conference dual. Either way, figure a way to make it interesting and not compromise duals later on. My earlier suggestion was just a way to get a conversation started on developing a lineup.

What if they focused the event on JRs/SRs from different conferences that are highly ranked. We know PSU probably will not send anyone and we do not want to see some of the Big 10 matchups already, so what if it looked something like this.... 125 - Marc-Anthony McGowan JR Princeton v. Vincent Robinson JR Nebraska 133 - Tyler Knox JR Stanford v Jacob Van Dee SR Nebraska 141 - Luke Stanich JR Lehigh v Evan Frost SR ISU 149 - Caleb Henson SR VT v Ryder Block JR Iowa 157 - Brandon Cannon JR tOSU v Ty Watters JR WVU 165 - Nicco Ruiz JR AZST v Joey Blaze SR Purdue 174 - Jaxon Smith SR tOSU v Danny Wask SR NAVY 184 - Max McEnelly JR Minnesota v Eddie Neitenbach JR Wyoming 197 - Stephen Little SR UALR v Branson John JR Maryland 285 - Konner Doucet SR OKST v Nick Feldman SR tOSU Again, I focused on top 10 (everyone is top 7 or better), only used those who are listed as juniors/seniors on intermat, and tried to get out of conference matchups. Go ahead and rip it apart, but I feel matchups like this can bring excitement to the event.

Best to never stand on top of the NCAA podium

I did a deep dive and found 4x AAs that never won. The fellas should be added if not already: Mike DeAnna (IA): 3, 6, 2, 2 Greg Elinsky (PSU) 7, 2, 2, 3 Lance Palmer (tOSU): 4, 8, 4, 2 Jake Percival (Ohio): 4, 8, 4, 2 Daton Fix (OKST): 4x finalist Myles Amine (UM): 4, 3, 3, 3, 2 (only 5 timer I could find) Montel Marion (IOWA): 2, 4, 2, 6 -
All four of those teams will do really well in their conference tournaments that they will qualify 8-10 athletes each. That is huge because if you bring more athletes, you have a better chance to score points. If I had to pick from the 4, Iowa St would be my dark horse to snag a trophy. Lots of talented upperclassmen returning and Brent Metcalf at the helm may inject something extra as its his team now. I Have watched them come up short the last few years and this year feels like it may be different. Cornell seems to be a team always knocking on the trophy door. They recruit well, the build well, and for the most part have 3-4 guys that perform really well at the NCAAs. They had some coaching changes as well, so can Mike Grey continue having his guys outperforming their seeds at the nationals and come home with a trophy.

I assume for this question we will use teams outside the top 10, for that reason (and I do not have in depth explanations) I think these teams have a chance to podium: Missouri Lehigh (seems to always bring a tough squad to nationals) Cornell Iowa St

Going outside the realm of NCAA........... Abbas Jadidi (Iran)

149 - Brent Metcalf -- Shoving Darion Caldwell for the flips 165 - Johny Hendricks -- Became the villain when he was pinned by Churella and it was not called 174 - Mike Evans -- Can't remember how many 1-0 matches he won and seemed to be proud of it

What about Joe McFarland. 4x AA, 2 time finalist. Internationally has accolades and wrestled against the Soviet Union, which would had been a tougher task -
Where will that rascal AJ end up?
trojanhorse replied to The_KC_Godfather's topic in College Wrestling
So, the AJ Ferrari story looks like this: started at OKST, wins a nat'l title, gets in some trouble and leave the university takes time off and then resurfaces at Iowa, only to lose to Zach Glazier and give the crowd the double bird. Iowa does not want him anymore Enrolls at Bakersfield, wrestles all season without issue, 21-1 record places third overall Tries to transfer to UNC, only to be blocked because of his past Transfers to Neb, 18-5 record, places 6th. Wants out because he wants to wrestle 197 and not 285 anymore It appears the story has so much drama tied to it that many schools are hesitant to resistant in bringing him on their team. While the talent is there for a team who needs a 197/285 for the lineup, is the drama and spectacle worth the investment? One would think that Iowa would roll the dice on someone like that as Brands would be desperate to bring in talent to challenge for a trophy. I do not see any other team that would see the benefit outweighing the cost of bringing him in. -

Reading and posting: been stated that it is probably EIWA, but eliminated: Binghamton - Prob don't have the money due to the new facilities going to be constructed Lehigh and Bucknell - Standards are too high Its not Army or Navy That leaves as possible landing sites Drexel - did have DeSanto at one point American Franklin and Marshall LIU Hofstra Morgan St Sacred Heart Are any of those schools able to offer up enough cash to land the both of them? I like the Rider pick as someone had mentioned and will also add Lock Haven as a possible landing spot if it is not EIWA. They seem to have a way to take troubled pasts and get the best out of them (Marstellar)
