Follow the NFL model and make a position that’s like a GM for him, and have a separate head coach for a younger guy like Metcalf to just focus on everything on the mats. Imagine if Iowa kept Gable on in that role. Or I could see UNC doing something similar with Koll (who would be equally as great as Dresser as GM) and getting someone young and fresh as head coach I agree this makes a ton of sense especially if you consider that they will be ramping up a women’s wrestling operation in a year or so. 1

Everything I read basically says Thomas is a better fit to be head coach/ceo of a program in today’s landscape and Spates just wants to focus on the wrestling side of things and not all the stuff head coaches have to do.
