Iowa's lack of religiousness hurting them?
AgaveMaria replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
May easily be that the Iowa religious types are not as loud about it. Did watch a number of their wrestlers doing the jesus stuff, just not as loud about it as some other schools. Maybe T&T twins believe but don't push it on everyone? Cael's group is major league proselyting/converting bunch who go door to door pushing their religion on folks and telling them that they have the Only True Church on earth. All others are false, their creeds are an abomination to God. Doesn't get much more 'in your face' than that. T&T & many other coaches - we seldom hear anything about their belief. Maybe they aren't loud about it or believe faith is a personal thing? -
The 4 Timers - Pat, Cael, Logan, Kyle & Yianni
AgaveMaria replied to AgaveMaria's topic in College Wrestling
Some States don't have the population. Our nearest school closed two years ago. Kids could pick three towns to go to depending on which might be closer. As it is the next closest now partners with three other schools for some sports. Not enough kids for a full football program so they play 9 man. Western part of the State they play 6 man. Eligibility for HS sports starts in 7th grade. At that some schools are hard pressed to field a full basketball team and some do not have wrestling at all. -

He did not get it done. He was pinned and it wasn't a fluke. Then he quit, ran and hid rather than wrestle back to try for third. He's an almost. Damn good but when it came down to it - he quit - he wussed out. -
Greatest 3xer of the Wrestlestat era

pinfall? The term is PIN or Fall, with Technical Fall being for those not tough enough to get it done the right way. Pinfall is used by dipshiz, idiots and fools. -

Hope he can stand up to Grinder Wrestling. -
The next step in Cael's plan to destroy college wrestling
AgaveMaria replied to Theo Brixton's topic in College Wrestling
Penn State may have the Team Title but tied with Cornell with TWO champions each. Team Title is not a lock no matter how good any one team is. Injury and illness come into play. Then we have those "sure thing" champs run into a Vito Arujau... No one seemed to see that one coming. Penn State is the big dog. Cael & Staff are doing a great job with their wrestlers. They are the favorites to win but nothing is guaranteed when opponents step on the mat. -
We have five wrestlers who are 4 time winners. Three of them are 4 time HS champs. Pat Smith won 3. Kyle won 2. Yianni won 4 out of 5. Cael & Logan were 4 for 4. What happened in HS to prevent the others from winning every one? Yianni was injured - preventing him winning 5 in HS. Kyle took 2nd one year - but did not win 4. Can't see what Pat Smith did - was 3 the norm at the time or did he get beat, was ill or injured? Am sure a few of the perfect records for 3 time NCAA champs from the past would have been 4 timers but they did not get the chance. So, back to High School. What happened to prevent these few above from winning it all in HS every season? Also - how come Diakomihalis is called Yianni but was born John Michael Diakomihalis? Name Change? Mistake in the records? Yep, it is the off season - so why not start looking for most anything wrestling...

When do ADs start negotiating an NIL detente?

Which major Sport has never had an NCAA Champion at the top level of competition? -
Better to try & figure out which GOODWILL store Tom & Terry shop for their classy outfits than a movie coach.

WoW - thought this would be about Word of Wisdom. Cael's religion has it and teaches to abstain from eating meat except in times of Cold and Famine. Also, no coffee or tea. Maybe that is why hey keep winning?
-
Nothing at all wrong with that. Our High Schools have shooting teams. Olympic style Air Rifle as well as trap shooting. Wood shop sees kids bringing in rifles for custom stocks and making hunting bows. Hunting is part of our culture and not a problem. Iowa is still a State with agriculture and outdoor heritage. Might be good for the Ferrari clan. A new place with great support for the two who have problems might help them.

The next step in Cael's plan to destroy college wrestling
AgaveMaria replied to Theo Brixton's topic in College Wrestling
Why whine about someone who has a successful program? Cael is doing Gable type of winning. More power to him for his success. Hope he keeps it up. Now if only the Campbell Fighting Camels can get a National Champ or two all will be right with the world. -
Yep.

Iowa's lack of religiousness hurting them?

Religion is toxic. Exclusionism and hate are the main results. More people are killed due to Religion than any other cause. -
Where will AJ and Anthony Ferrari end up?
AgaveMaria replied to AOCStallsLikeAMug's topic in College Wrestling
From what is on here it sounds like an "Alford plea". That can happen when a defendant does not plead Guilty but possible that they would be found guilty in a trial. This avoids trial. Usually a period of time(like the 18 months here) and conditions are attached. After that time (& usually 2-4 months - in case new offenses show up) the record is expunged and it is as if nothing ever happened. Not a loved way of solving things. I reduces the load on the courts and the system. Allows the offender to go free and if they stay out of trouble(don't get caught) at the end they are clear. -
Frustration or not - disqualification is called for.

Why does it say "Bob Dole Fans" under everyone's profile?
AgaveMaria replied to Fletcher's topic in College Wrestling
"fletcher haters" is demeaning. Leave the area under the name/emojo empty. If we want something there we can put it there - we don't need someone else's prejudice and stupidity. -
Gable Steveson returning to wrestling

He won't win another Olympic Gold. Too much time with the pro slobs to think he can come back and to top form. -
Not A Peep! Got to Wrestle for the Love ❤️ of the sport!
AgaveMaria replied to Wrassler's topic in College Wrestling
How have the crowds at Penn State grown since Cael & Co took over the Coaching duties? Everyone loves a winner. -
First car was an early 1950's Nash Rambler station wagon. The front seats laid down flat. A lot of room for fishing gear. Nowhere near as dull as it sounds as I bought it from an Uncle who was a master machanic. As in Indy 500 racing teams mechanic. He replaced the crappy Nash engine with a really nice 4 cylinder engine with a lot more power. At the same time put in a different transmission and really beefed up the drive train as well as the suspension to handle more power the 4 banger had. It was that power that got me in trouble - as the 4 banger was an Offenhouser with a bit over 300 horsepower. The cheezy looking Rambler Station Wagon could hit an honest 140 mph. That was why my dad forced the sale back to my Uncle Harold. He finally sold it to a friend who was a F1 race driver in Europe. Always wondered what it would be like to put one of those Offy engines of 750-1100 hp in a dumpy looking old 'family truckster' type of vehicle. Still miss that old car.

Would Iowa recruit over Teske if they can land Nagao?
AgaveMaria replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Tom is so desperate he would try to recruit Downey & Ferrari and start a Tag Team tournament. -
Years ago Midlands was THE tournament to enter. You could wrestle World Champions, NCAA champions and even Coaches from your own team. Some guys liked it, some didn't. A friend on one team was really excited to face off with one of his coaches in a real match. Not "The Room", but for real. Said it gave him more honest feedback as to where he was than weeks in the room. Another hated the idea. Guys could see how they stacked up while watching top talent from years past. Most every top talent showed up. Now - a ghost of greatness.

Says to credit Ramos for winning and he was not injured. If he had won the match - would have have MFF out of the Title bout? Face it, he quit. Can't win it all, take my marbles and go home! No real Medical Forfeit - spencer just quit. A sad example for Iowa wrestling.
