  1. Better to try & figure out which GOODWILL store Tom & Terry shop for their classy outfits than a movie coach.
  2. Why does the Covid Season count? Nobody won the NCAA title that year.
  3. WoW - thought this would be about Word of Wisdom. Cael's religion has it and teaches to abstain from eating meat except in times of Cold and Famine. Also, no coffee or tea. Maybe that is why hey keep winning?
  4. Nothing at all wrong with that. Our High Schools have shooting teams. Olympic style Air Rifle as well as trap shooting. Wood shop sees kids bringing in rifles for custom stocks and making hunting bows. Hunting is part of our culture and not a problem. Iowa is still a State with agriculture and outdoor heritage. Might be good for the Ferrari clan. A new place with great support for the two who have problems might help them.
  5. "Penn State won the team title in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023. This is 10 championships out of the 12 contested (no championship in 2020 due to COVID-19), which is crazy." 10 Titles in 13 seasons. Remember it took a full year before the guys started the winning.
  6. Why whine about someone who has a successful program? Cael is doing Gable type of winning. More power to him for his success. Hope he keeps it up. Now if only the Campbell Fighting Camels can get a National Champ or two all will be right with the world.
  7. Religion is toxic. Exclusionism and hate are the main results. More people are killed due to Religion than any other cause.
  8. From what is on here it sounds like an "Alford plea". That can happen when a defendant does not plead Guilty but possible that they would be found guilty in a trial. This avoids trial. Usually a period of time(like the 18 months here) and conditions are attached. After that time (& usually 2-4 months - in case new offenses show up) the record is expunged and it is as if nothing ever happened. Not a loved way of solving things. I reduces the load on the courts and the system. Allows the offender to go free and if they stay out of trouble(don't get caught) at the end they are clear.
  9. Frustration or not - disqualification is called for.
  10. "fletcher haters" is demeaning. Leave the area under the name/emojo empty. If we want something there we can put it there - we don't need someone else's prejudice and stupidity.
  11. He won't win another Olympic Gold. Too much time with the pro slobs to think he can come back and to top form.
  12. How have the crowds at Penn State grown since Cael & Co took over the Coaching duties? Everyone loves a winner.
  13. First car was an early 1950's Nash Rambler station wagon. The front seats laid down flat. A lot of room for fishing gear. Nowhere near as dull as it sounds as I bought it from an Uncle who was a master machanic. As in Indy 500 racing teams mechanic. He replaced the crappy Nash engine with a really nice 4 cylinder engine with a lot more power. At the same time put in a different transmission and really beefed up the drive train as well as the suspension to handle more power the 4 banger had. It was that power that got me in trouble - as the 4 banger was an Offenhouser with a bit over 300 horsepower. The cheezy looking Rambler Station Wagon could hit an honest 140 mph. That was why my dad forced the sale back to my Uncle Harold. He finally sold it to a friend who was a F1 race driver in Europe. Always wondered what it would be like to put one of those Offy engines of 750-1100 hp in a dumpy looking old 'family truckster' type of vehicle. Still miss that old car.
  14. Tom is so desperate he would try to recruit Downey & Ferrari and start a Tag Team tournament.
  15. Years ago Midlands was THE tournament to enter. You could wrestle World Champions, NCAA champions and even Coaches from your own team. Some guys liked it, some didn't. A friend on one team was really excited to face off with one of his coaches in a real match. Not "The Room", but for real. Said it gave him more honest feedback as to where he was than weeks in the room. Another hated the idea. Guys could see how they stacked up while watching top talent from years past. Most every top talent showed up. Now - a ghost of greatness.
  16. Says to credit Ramos for winning and he was not injured. If he had won the match - would have have MFF out of the Title bout? Face it, he quit. Can't win it all, take my marbles and go home! No real Medical Forfeit - spencer just quit. A sad example for Iowa wrestling.
  17. Wasn't really injured. Credit to Ramos. Then MFF's out of Two matches instead of wrestling to try and take 3rd? And now almost 3 weeks to work on how to spin things? As for Yianni, known for winning but not dominationg. Spencer known for diminating. Why whine about a double standard? Sorry Spence, a C- at best on your backhand attempt at an excuse.
  18. Why not? You quit with no explanation - What do you expect? All the publicity in the world and then ..................................
  19. "I think Cunningham deserves credit, but...I don't know how we can discredit the man himself. When Cael went to Penn State, I remember saying(and hardly being in the minority) that Penn State was going to have a dynasty. My thought was they'd get Penn's best and really that was it. In reality, he hasn't always gotten the best in-state Wrestlers, but he finds Wrestlers who fit what he's looking for." --------------------------------- Cael & Cunningham. Kurdelmeier & Gable. Don't forget Gary Kurdelmeier had the bright idea to hire Dan Gable - he put together a coaching staff that got Iowa its first NCAA title in history. Iowa State was the big dog. Iowa with the two started winning, then Gary retired and turned it over to Gable - the rest is history. Cael has Cunningham - smart and works well with the wrestlers. A great combination. Casey gets a ton of interest for every open coaching job. But - Why take them? He and Cael and Cody have built something great and it keeps on going. Credit is due to all of them, but..., without Cael I doubt they would be as good for as long. Gable was magic. Cael is magic. No doubt about it - both deserve all the success. They are unique.
  20. Lee won't be in better condition by the time the tournament starts. Anyone pushing him will wear him out. His knees appear to still be a problem - and that won't let him win, IF he even shows up.
  21. Unless he really raises his game from what we saw Arujau do he won't win it. Arujau will take both he and Fix in Freestyle.
  22. Pinned and double medical forfeits. Then the Simon and Garfunkle treatment to all his fans: Sounds of Silence. Did he go to the Hospital to be treated for the debilitating medical condition that caused him to quit after the pin? Is he already back in the Iowa room preparing to become Great Again? The Spencer Lee we saw get pinned was hampered by ongoing knee/leg problems. Go back and watch him early in the match and you can see it. No drive when needed. Add in he was not in great condition - gassing in the second periodd and really falling short in the third. If not for the lengthy time out he may have been pinned earlier. So - what is he doing now?
  23. Having seen both I'll take Uetake. He could have won big all the time but his culture did not do that. He won and did not openly dominate the opponents - something he could have easily done most of the time. As Myron Roderick said: I never saw him tested". Remember the match when a ref called him for Stalling. He hurt the other wrestler - and did not even go all out or intend to hurt him. After competing he was a Grad Assistant would get very frustrated as no one on the team could even do his normal warm up exercises. He really was "that much better" than the competition. Cael was excellence on the mat. A few close matches, very few. One the stallfest over Damion Hahn. Cael did not like wrestling guys who would beat on him. Somthing more allowed in International Competition, and it showed. He was excellent, probably the greatest talent we had next to John Smith at the time. But, one match for all the marbles and I will still go with Yojo.
  24. Difficult one. Controlling the opponent and preventing and escape is good - but if not actively working for a pin is not good wrestling. Work for a pin or the opponent is let up by the ref - no point or 1/2 point? An actual escape while the opponent is trying to prevent it should be worth the full point. Maybe a Reversal should be worth more than 2 points? Can be better than an escape & takedown. Little in folkstyle wrestling is more boring than watching a persistent rider - who does nothing but ride, ride, ride. Content to sit on top and a Ref too chicken to call STALLING.
