BruceyB wrote: "The guns are a terrible look and seem hard to justify. Why was he travelling with a semiautomatic handgun in the drivers side door? Why did he have three other handguns in a duffel bag? That's peculiar." ------------------------------------ All the paranoia over firearms. He had a carry permit - at least for where he was moving from. The number of pistols? Nothing odd about it for many. Same if it had been rifles or shotguns. Some folks like shooting and have many different rifles, pistols and shotguns. Also ammunition for them. Others have firearms in the vehicles as a normal thing. We shoot coyotes, raccoons, skunks and whatnot and generally have a rifle or two in the vehicles. One by the barn has an /06 and the pickup by the grain shed has a good .223. Jump in and go and you have the rifle with you. Wouldn't leave them in the vehicles if it were in town - at least not laying in the well & on the seat. The drug stuff tho - Sounds as if Pennsylvania is hard on it - and it is still illegal on the Federal level. Expired registration - just stupidity. Does he have active car insurance?

How come he doesn't post Bible stuff like this? Song of Solomon, 7 7 This thy stature is like to a palm tree, and thy breasts to clusters of grapes. 8 I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples; 9 And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak.

Decades ago. Wrestled in HS and right after in an AAU tournament. Later I was disqualified from ALL HS sports - because of the AAU wresltling tournament. This type of thing must have changed now, right? Otherwise how would we have out HS World Team members and such still being on their High School teams? I was doing well with Boxing in HS as well. Golden Gloves & other fights with the Club team I was on. The High School never said a word about it even as I would miss classes at times for tournaments in far flung locations. Any blowback for High School wrestlers now with taking part in other tournaments or sports?

Ohio State wrestling documentary released today on HBO Max
AgaveMaria replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
This is God getting back at the State of Ohio for running Joseph Smith and the Mormons out in the 1830's. Surprised they did not put an Oath of Vengeance in their Temple ceremony against the State of Ohio as they did against the USA after they left the USA when they moved to Mexican Territory after being run out of Illinios. If Cael leaves Penn State maybe he can coach Ohio State? -
I bet if Cael had served the normal 2 year Mormon mission this would not be happening.

Brooks story: True or False?
AgaveMaria replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in International Wrestling
Not really. Try Utah where if you are a Mormon who gets into trouble your Bishop and/or Stake President can and may direct other members to avoid patronizing your business. A death knell for those who don't toe the line. -
Maybe the school cuts the wrestling program? Negative publicity & investigations and rumors of criminal activity on the part of their Poster Boy for Excellence? (and his Coach keeping quiet?) They go out with having won a Title. Wrestlers can transfer as the School greases the way for them to go to Cambell University? Or, in deference to Cael - to Utah Valley? We still don't know what happened. Just basic reports, rumors and name calling at this point. Why not wait until an investigation is done and a report is made public?

His two latest combines were bought new from the John Deere dealer, GPS systems & all - $485,000 each. Past few years they have been switching from 8 & 12 wheel tractors to Trac drives. Fewer pounds per square inch on the ground & easier when it is a bit wet. Fuel costs but with GPS systems accurate to +- one inch there is little fuel wasted on double planting/disking and whatnot. Ammonia & round up ready seeds, spraying for pests & such do cost. Instead of spraying machinery he uses our local Crop duster. Costs a bit, gets it done quicker and has no sunk cost in machinery for it. The pilots love it. 2 miles of unobstructed spraying on some of his fields with no power lines or trees to worry about. Good tax planning with kids and grandkids factored in for the future. Nicest part of North Dakota farming and ranching is NO Corporate farms. Closely held family Corporation is the limit - living North Dakota resident owned. No Monsanto, Simplot or the big outfits. It is illegal for them to own the farms & ranches. The State works hard to protect the Family Farm. A bit South is a nice Bison ranch. Good herd, rolling hills & some nice lakes & ponds. Scenic & no power lines or towers. Movie and TV types come in to photograph them from time to time. Many of the farmers have College degrees. Some with Masters & a few PhD's in the mix. Plant geneticists and seed companies all over the place. Ever more productive crops. Machinery is so expensive and computerized now you almost need a college degree to run it. The local High School has both Boys and Girls wrestling teams, trap shooting and Olympic style rifle team. Small towns, not many people. Open and relaxing. Fargo is a few hours East of us. We're up near the Canadian border. Prairie pothole country with ducks & geese & moose & elk & deer and good fishing as well. Now if only UND would get a wrestling team and NDSU would catch fire with theirs.

Don't count Nebraska out. More money in farm & ranch areas than some realize. One of my neighbors has a medium size farm operation and last year saw him with $13 million in crop sales. Was not a banner year due to some drought conditions. Nebraska will come up with the dollars if the kid is serious. Hope Manning giving Focus a chance works out for everyone.

He is a Mormon. Basically I don't know how much of his religion he actually buys into. He does not appear to wear it on his sleeve. Did not serve a mission. As a wrestling coach we know he is top notch with a support staff to match. We have seen him take in a few questionable kids. I think he did so because he believed they could be helped even as they helped his team. Some didn't work out long term. Every coach has some of this at times. We have allegations & a lot of discussion. Cael is keeping quiet - just as he does with most of what comes up. I figure he will comment if it is needed. Penn State is a tough place for any kind of headlines like this. Sandusky/Paterno won't ever die and the mere allegation of problems brings headlines and investigations. Hope time shows Cael did OK with this. As I wrote before, I think he addressed it individually & took what he was told at face value & advised "contact authorities" where warranted. Then let things take their course. Hope it works out. He & the program are good for wrestling.

He is going to Cal Poly SLO because they promise to teach him Surfing & will give him his own board.

Brooks story: True or False?
AgaveMaria replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in International Wrestling
Any information on what was found? Is it something that is in "over the counter" medicine or some food he would eat? We don't have enough information, yet. -
The Coach being Cael. A Wrestler who is setting records every time he steps on the mat. Then, some troubling allegations & apparently a law enforcement investigation becomes part of the scene. Maybe he has reports of activity that can bounce this guy off the team, maybe out of school & even into prison? Cael is one who plays it close. Keeps things quiet. We know he is honorable & supports his guys. Talk to the wrestler? Most probably. Maybe gets assurances the story(ies?) are not accurate, maybe just rumors? You want to believe your guy. You have a level of trust built up over a number of years. So, talk to him, set boundaries more firmly & want to believe it is jealousy or somewhat that is fueling the story. No police action is taken, just rumors? Six months and your wrestler isn't even interviewed by Law Enforcement - what do you think? Not a High Priority? At Penn State? Where Sandusky/Paterno is the living Nightmare that won't leave? My guess - (only a guess, maybe a hope) is that Cael got reports & talked to Starocci & got assurances from him. Then, when nothing happens on the legal front, lets it ride? Very different from J Robinson, who actively protected his guys from a system that would have had life long negative consequences - and paid dearly for it. Is Cael too trusting? Is he blind, maybe willfully ignoring reality? Do his Assistants/Co Head Coaches figure prominently into this as well? Will we get the facts, or not?

Carter Starocci faces allegations of sexual assault and theft
AgaveMaria replied to VakAttack's topic in College Wrestling
Is it possible Carter was "hiding" the stuff, playing a prank? That the women involved gave conflicting signals or later decide something happened? We won't know reality with this. -
The only hope is MUDFLAP - but seeing as he is locked up in Solitary in prison somewhere...

Carter Starocci faces allegations of sexual assault and theft

Cael sweeping it aside or ignoring a rotten reality fits in with his Mormon upbringing. https://www.latterdaysurvivors.org/post/victim-blaming-when-mormon-leaders-inflict-harm-and-perpetuate-abuse His church has paid out tens of millions ot victims of sexual abuse - by leaders and members. Their leadership is taught that when a victim of sexual abuse comes in for counseling or to confess - call a help line - which is manned by Kirton, McConkie law firm. Not by actual counselors or health professionals. Women are property, no matter the talks of how they are honored, loved and such. Mormon Apostle Heber Kimball said “I think no more of taking another wife than I do of buying a cow”. Though not actively practicing polygamy, it is still a core doctrine & "The order of Heaven" - with God & Jesus both being polygamists. On the other hand, maybe Cael & Co aren't sure what to do & the University offers no guidance - in spite of the legacy of Paterno & Sandusky? Taking some stuff & "hiding it"? Maybe a prank? "They will work it out between them" attitude here? Easy to see Cael with his beliefs thinking the women are exaggerating what happened. Just seeing them with sleeveless dresses can be a trigger in this belief system. Mormon Apostle Dallin Oaks spoke of it with this. His group even goes so far as to airbrush sleeves on photos of young girls who are wearing sleeveless shirts or dresses. Young girls grade school age. Cael & Co might be a clueless as Joe Paterno was. As for Bartlett & his wife - they have done GOOD bringing this out, especially as they were apparently all but ignored trying to go through normal channels. -
Just hope he recovers.

Before Gary Kurdelmeier and Dan Gable Iowa was second banana in the State. Had never won an NCAA title. Following Gable was tough. He had the touch & brought out the best in his wrestlers. Cael has it, most don't. Some are close. We'll see about Taylor. Tom is producing a good product, just not Good Enough to meet expectations. Still a good coach, just not getting the results expected. Do you get rid of the guy who consistently has you in the top echelon? You are vying for second place most years - along with a few other programs - though you are usually a bit above them. "Iowa Style" - is it holding them back? Can the Terrible Twins break out & actually challenge Penn State on a yearly basis? Oklahoma State is in the conversation but won't be more than that for a few years, if ever. Great Recruiting does not guarantee great results. New Coach, new expectations, new excitement - it wears off in the face of reality. OSU did not beat Iowa in the dual this past season. Maybe this year? Should be an interesting season.
