Wasn't really injured. Credit to Ramos. Then MFF's out of Two matches instead of wrestling to try and take 3rd? And now almost 3 weeks to work on how to spin things? As for Yianni, known for winning but not dominationg. Spencer known for diminating. Why whine about a double standard? Sorry Spence, a C- at best on your backhand attempt at an excuse.

Is Spence Lee out of the hospital yet?

Why not? You quit with no explanation - What do you expect? All the publicity in the world and then .................................. -
PSU Best Ever vs Iowa Best Ever - who wins?
AgaveMaria replied to Zahnarzt's topic in College Wrestling
"I think Cunningham deserves credit, but...I don't know how we can discredit the man himself. When Cael went to Penn State, I remember saying(and hardly being in the minority) that Penn State was going to have a dynasty. My thought was they'd get Penn's best and really that was it. In reality, he hasn't always gotten the best in-state Wrestlers, but he finds Wrestlers who fit what he's looking for." --------------------------------- Cael & Cunningham. Kurdelmeier & Gable. Don't forget Gary Kurdelmeier had the bright idea to hire Dan Gable - he put together a coaching staff that got Iowa its first NCAA title in history. Iowa State was the big dog. Iowa with the two started winning, then Gary retired and turned it over to Gable - the rest is history. Cael has Cunningham - smart and works well with the wrestlers. A great combination. Casey gets a ton of interest for every open coaching job. But - Why take them? He and Cael and Cody have built something great and it keeps on going. Credit is due to all of them, but..., without Cael I doubt they would be as good for as long. Gable was magic. Cael is magic. No doubt about it - both deserve all the success. They are unique. -
Confirmed: Gilman ducking Spencer Lee
AgaveMaria replied to bnwtwg's topic in International Wrestling
Lee won't be in better condition by the time the tournament starts. Anyone pushing him will wear him out. His knees appear to still be a problem - and that won't let him win, IF he even shows up. -
Unless he really raises his game from what we saw Arujau do he won't win it. Arujau will take both he and Fix in Freestyle.

Pinned and double medical forfeits. Then the Simon and Garfunkle treatment to all his fans: Sounds of Silence. Did he go to the Hospital to be treated for the debilitating medical condition that caused him to quit after the pin? Is he already back in the Iowa room preparing to become Great Again? The Spencer Lee we saw get pinned was hampered by ongoing knee/leg problems. Go back and watch him early in the match and you can see it. No drive when needed. Add in he was not in great condition - gassing in the second periodd and really falling short in the third. If not for the lengthy time out he may have been pinned earlier. So - what is he doing now?

Having seen both I'll take Uetake. He could have won big all the time but his culture did not do that. He won and did not openly dominate the opponents - something he could have easily done most of the time. As Myron Roderick said: I never saw him tested". Remember the match when a ref called him for Stalling. He hurt the other wrestler - and did not even go all out or intend to hurt him. After competing he was a Grad Assistant would get very frustrated as no one on the team could even do his normal warm up exercises. He really was "that much better" than the competition. Cael was excellence on the mat. A few close matches, very few. One the stallfest over Damion Hahn. Cael did not like wrestling guys who would beat on him. Somthing more allowed in International Competition, and it showed. He was excellent, probably the greatest talent we had next to John Smith at the time. But, one match for all the marbles and I will still go with Yojo.

Congrats on the escape; you earn zero points
AgaveMaria replied to jross's topic in College Wrestling
Difficult one. Controlling the opponent and preventing and escape is good - but if not actively working for a pin is not good wrestling. Work for a pin or the opponent is let up by the ref - no point or 1/2 point? An actual escape while the opponent is trying to prevent it should be worth the full point. Maybe a Reversal should be worth more than 2 points? Can be better than an escape & takedown. Little in folkstyle wrestling is more boring than watching a persistent rider - who does nothing but ride, ride, ride. Content to sit on top and a Ref too chicken to call STALLING. -
PSU Best Ever vs Iowa Best Ever - who wins?
AgaveMaria replied to Zahnarzt's topic in College Wrestling
Both have that Something that resonates with their wrestlers. Both have champions that did not wrestler "Their style" - but have a coach & staff that brought out the best their talent could do. Watched Jim Zalesky at Iowa. Learned from Gable but once past Gable recruits was a let down. Brands was hot at first & then coled. Niether are Gable and niether moved past it to make the program their own. Cael is not Gable - while he IS Gable in many ways. Intelligence and coaching to win and get kids to buy into what is being taught, not "wrestle like me", but "wrestle to be great" - and we will help you get there. Many other great coaches out there at other programs but these two are a step above them. -
PSU Best Ever vs Iowa Best Ever - who wins?
AgaveMaria replied to Zahnarzt's topic in College Wrestling
The old guys would do just fine today. IF given modern training, diet and coaching. Put todays wrestlers on the mat with Gable - with the rules and training back then - and you will still see Gable arm bar them into numbness on one side and do the same with the other arm 2nd period, then turn and pin them. That said, Ed Ruth beats Banach worse than Mark Schultz did. -
John Smith might be available...

Spencer Lee would have won NCAA's this year if he had not been forced to wrestle a Team Mate? The reality of competition is that fans love it. The more matches, the better. Look at Cael, Gable and those with many matches over the years. Decades ago 20 matches was a lot. Then 25-40 or so a season became more normal. Now some are cutting back. In season matches help prepare the wrestlers for the tournaments. Gives a chance to work on technique against real competition. Feeds rivalries and builds team spirit. First Semester/before Christmas - more relaxed maybe? Give newer wrestlers more chances with a "no limit" policy until the Holidays - then the enforced limit after? Encourage participation and competition. The kids come to wrestle, not sit back and hope. Give them the chance to wrestle - a lot to be learned by facing top quality competition even if you aren't there yet. Face it and learn and the coaches will have more information from that and can push more individual training based on what they see - not just in the room. If we keep with what is happening now no one will ever get 159 matches in a college career - much less be 159-0. You only have so much time to wrestle - get in all the matches possible.

Vito could well take the year off and pursue Olympic dreams. Then come back to Cornell, wrestle and finish a degree. Help the school like Yianni did.

3-5 foot drifts of snow in the yard. By the barn the drifts are still higher than the roof of the F-150 pickup. Up near the Canadian border. Weather guys say a few more weeks before we start spring melting of the snow. 4 below last night. When it finally melts and grass gets going the first month & a half we can watch the grass grow 1-3 inches a day. Not kidding. If we wait a week to mow it is too high. As summer goes on it slows but early growth is amazing.

You guys miss him. He retired and became a manager at a farm in Italy. This documentary about the Ranch will show you what he manages.

Where will AJ and Anthony Ferrari end up?
AgaveMaria replied to AOCStallsLikeAMug's topic in College Wrestling
They will chose a California School. This gives great options if AJ & the one brother don't shape up - they can become team captain at Folsom or San Quentin. -
PSU Best Ever vs Iowa Best Ever - who wins?
AgaveMaria replied to Zahnarzt's topic in College Wrestling
Coaches wrestle. Cael should win - but remember that Gable would go with Chris Campbell and said it was 50/50 - so maybe he would last to the second period before getting pinned or a Tech Fall? -
Please speak a bit more clearly and SLOW DOWN the delivery.

College career.
-
You are right. But, just like Ed Banach - all the buildup and hype are too much to ignore when the final result on the mat is a loss like they took.

One positive thing is that Iowa is heaven compared to Oklahoma. A lot more NEW trailer parks. -
Lee & Olympic Gold in 16 months? He will be lucky to match Askren. Maybe even Cormier. That is IF he even makes the team. He is the victim of his body, injuries his talent can't make up for with the toughest competition.
-
You mean you aren't waiting breathless until "what is Lee's favorite type of Apple"?
-
Is that real? My question is. Keep reading about "Karen" in various stories but never why the folks are saying it.
