    I don’t think the Brands brothers are (or were even if Bassett didn’t commit) going anywhere unless they choose to. Which IMO might have been in around 5-7 years anyway.

    I can’t imagine he will get pushed much if any harder than he has been by his dad and himself already. The dude already works out at 4:55am every day. I’m more worried about has he maxed out his potential already, which is still at the level of beating past national champs in FS, so of course not too shabby. But the last time we saw him wrestle D1 competition (albeit as a HS sophomore) he squeaked out a win over a guy that is 2-4 this year.

    oh honestly I would’ve guessed it was the other way around with people guaranteeing that Lee would tech him in freestyle or something. 57kg RBY in freestyle is a lot different than 133 (or even ~130 if we were making up potential catch weights) pound RBY in folkstyle.

    Ideal scenario for Iowa: Bassett freshman for 2027 season Spencer wins gold in 2028 then retires from competing, joins staff as an assistant for 2029 season Spencer becomes HC for Bassett’s senior year in 2030, barring any redshirts or NCAA adding years of eligibility. The Brands brothers turn 57 in a couple months, retiring in the next five years or so certainly seems likely, although if somehow Bassett has a chance for four titles, I doubt they would leave before he graduates

    The whole thing was a little odd. First of all the teams were about to shake hands and then the announcer says “hold on we have an announcement!!” But then Flo goes to the prerecorded video and when they come back Bassett seems like he had already been talking and was wearing the Iowa shirt so I wasn’t sure if we missed something.

    OK I’m confused, the link above only has Iowa as having Bassett and one other kid from McCort who is unranked. How does that get them to #1? OSU has #3, 22, 84; and Michigan has #14, 16, 17, 27

    I mean I’m sure there were other factors: -Spencer Lee -being a fan as a kid -the chance to be their first 4x champ -Probably a better chance for him and his brothers to all be in the lineup together (at least vs PSU) But it definitely seems like money was the deciding factor. And yeah, there is definitely nothing wrong with that. Good for him.

    Does Iowa have any other top recruits in the middle weights? I know they’ve got some good lightweights and upperweights, but at first glance the middleweights seem thin. I wonder if likely not having to worry about getting in the lineup was a factor
