yep! they did a freestyle match and then a grappling match ever, both were very lopsided on both sides.

I would imagine the athletes definitely overvalue themselves to an extent but it's not exactly a rich man's sport so I find it hard to believe if they tossed them decent money, they could not get more matches done. Not knowing what flows margins are for these events though that's much easier said than done.

the only mma guy I can recall doing a cross over was Aljo when Rby absolutely dogged him giving up like 30lbs I think a lot of it is pride
-
I think it's generally a lack of willingness to pay the athletes to put it on the line.

Should Mijaín López give it another go in 2028?
Truzzcat replied to mspart's topic in International Wrestling
unless the rules are changed in greco and he gets at least one shot on top every match I don't see age really hindering him. There was not a match this go around that I thought he was in danger of losing he has truly mastered the art of modern day greco. -
I have nothing to offer of much substance I think a dual championship is a bit of a no brainer. I just wanted to say one of my favorite things with high school dual meets is bumping guys. Not a perfect example here because the guy I am going to propose bumping is probably less effective than the guy currently at the weight but imagine an iowa Oklahoma state dual where Ferrari goes 184 and gabe bumps to 197 or back when Cassar could not crack the lineup putting him out at 197 and bumping Nickal.

His brother was also committed to ASU but he is not enrolled Kaleb took a gap year so I assume hes taking the same. The younger one was honestly much better in high school so if he makes a similar jump to Kaleb in college watch out. As for what school they will attend I am not sure but assuming they are a package deal I expect someone to gets 6-8 AA plaques and maybe a title or two between the two of them.

Cam has wrestled 12 matches this year. 8 of those matches according to flow were against ranked opponents. His highest career bonus rate outside of his red shirt year was during his sophomore season at 23.81% he had a 76% win rate that season. This year he has a 75% win rate and 25% bonus rate with 65% of his matches coming against ranked wrestlers. some guys have a low output defensive style even contrary to their coaching staff. People talk about how Bartlett is boring but not their being an actual problem with his wrestling because he rarely ever loses. Cam simply is not quite as good as beau, hes a great wrestler but this is who he is. Statistically when you account for SOS he's probably having his best year to date, its hard to change a guys style when hes been wrestling that way for lets say at least his 5 years of college and probably in competitive matches in high school in 6 months. I think there is a lot being made out of nothing when you really look into it.

They are going to expand the card I believe they have added a match each day hoping we get like 7-10 I would rather fewer high-quality matches than 15 and 10 of them are mediocre. The carr takatani match is fun but Im not sure how David stays on the mat with him if Takatani looks like he did at the olympics.
-
Lee vs Ono Zahid vs Brooks Takatani vs Carr I have heard rumors about Austin Desanto vs Austin Gomez as well seems like Flo is really trying to put on a great card here. Any matchups you guys would like to see? I would exclude the Russians I don't think its likely they get that done. I also doubt at that time of year they will be getting any college guys. Matches I would love Blaze vs Bassett Forrest vs Vito/Knox Mason vs Masoumi/zare Musakaev vs Gomez or descant (I think he may be going up to 70kg though) Nick lee vs desnato (may be hard since hes coaching) Leo deluca Vs Anthony knox Leo deluca vs Joe Bachmann Yama*I poop my pants, don't laugh at me*a (u20 world champ) vs Pj duke Bassett vs Jayden James Snyder vs Taz

I think he wrestled 138 his senior year and he and his brother both wrestled 150 at folk nats following his senior season. I know he placed at Fargo in 2021 his bracket was pretty insane (Ayala, volk, prove and I believe Lemley were in it), not sure about any other times.
-
he won ironman in 2021 was always a placer at the big tournaments but that was probably his best showing. I don't think he ever won Illinois state which is pretty crazy. He was definitely a top 10 guy at his weight not sure if he was top 5 though, probably a top 40 guys for his class.

Starocci Interview on Bo Nickal podcast
Truzzcat replied to Threadkilla's topic in College Wrestling
I watched yesterday and I did think Carter came off quite well. Where bo lost me was when he said Carter would beat a lot of top 15 guys right now with just his wrestling. Bo has been doing it for 4 years and has yet to back up such claims, so I think we are putting the cart in front of the horse a bit. -
He defaulted that one though, right? Did he step foot on the mat? I was under the impression he just did not wrestle at all day 2 of cklv. I think ramos can get his feet off the mat on his leg attacks which should mitigate a lot of the scrambling. He also should do pretty well with Robinsons miss direction stuff.
-
I would venture to guess if they can still get him a medical he will not be back if they cannot he will try to be. Thats based on nothing substantial I know nothing about what's going on with him, but I would guess if he can get a year we will not see him in march.

I know the sample size is not great but it's hard for me not to think that v rob is a top 3 guy at 125 right now at least with a one-day weigh in. I really do worry about him in a tournament setting where he is weighing in multiple times, he is huge for 125, but his power coupled with his technical ability are something else. He seemed absolutely dead to writes on that takedown on the third but just needed a little bit of elevation and came out the back. I am not yet ready to say I favor him over Ramos, but he is firmly in the conversation for me.
-
fish vs ed is going to have at least 4 throw attempts in it no idea who comes out on top in those exchanges. I think my favorite matchups are matty singleton and Hamiti and hopefully v rob vs spratley if v rob goes.
-
I want him to run the gauntlet through 2028, but I also think as a nation we need him to. Our depth at 57kg is a bit abysmal at the moment, all the young guys from trials have or will probably outgrow with the exception of maybe Luke. I could see deluca,Knox,Luke being guys by 2028 pushing for the spot and guys to be confident in, but I think they all still need a few years of development before I would be confident that they are medal threats at the senior level.
-
I know he really wants to wrestle hes on frl today for the first 20 minutes or so he actually has 2 comps before the Ono match. Sounds like Ono may actually be able to go 57kg in 2028 which is a horrifying prospect considering he would probably be a top 10 guy in the world with his results at 65kg he wrestled Kiyooka for the olympic spot for Japan.
-
I dont think Nic would do well at 141 and ben seems small for 141. Nics style is so open and he really utilizes his power and explosiveness I think trying that same style at 141 would be a recipe for disaster, it sometimes is at 141. Vince nics younger brother flipped to Pitt so I wonder if Nic may join him there next year.

Hot take: I don’t think Steveson wins NCAA’s
Truzzcat replied to 1032004's topic in College Wrestling
Gable beat Mason 3 times in 2023, now that was freestyle, but those matches were not that close and just going off trials results it seems like Mason has widened the gap from Greg. -
Ono and Spencer are slated to wrestle February 26th in iowa city at 61kg. I have never in my life thought I would say the words I think spencer may get killed but I just can't see how he keeps this one close.
-
He weighed in for ironman at 134 and he could have weighed 140 so I am not sure if he will be a 141 right away. I think he sees himself as a 61kg guy at least for the time being.
-
If Blaze does not wrestle 133 next year Davino will be my pick to win the entire thing. I was always super high on him coming out of high school obviously I think most people were, but he has already expanded his neutral offense so much cannot imagine how good he will be with another year in that room.
