Pyles seems to think Levi will be red shirting this year... I think that makes the team race very interesting. He also thinks Barr would be going 197 I personally would be excited because Carter vs Parker is probably the best matchup, we could have next year but I think PSU's best lineup would be Barr 184, Carter 197 or carter 184 and Mirasola 197. Certainly not next topic but given PSU's track record with true freshman I think Mirasola could win that weight.

Jacori has not wrestled freestyle since 2017 and I have no idea the last time Buchannen did I would assume high school. So to me you are paying them to wrestle for a semester I don't foresee either guys being needle movers in freestyle. So I guess I should add a semester and good workout partners. I know they have alumni with A LOT of money but I just cannot imagine spending that kind of money when their biggest recruit from this upcoming class is Leo Deluca (who is very good). Unless their intent is to just buy proven commodities who are already In college moving forward I think those funds would be better allocated to ensuring they get these big high school recruits if they can truly afford to potentially pay 3 guys 1.5 million who in my opinion I could very well be wrong will never get close to making a national team out of school. I guess ultimately I may be underestimating the funding in wrestling and specifically at Iowas I just think its a foolish investment, it does put them in the national title hunt if some things swing their way though so perhaps it will prove to be fruitful.

The rumor was 500k for Buchannen and Teemer but I have to think that number is BS for a semester, that is all I have heard though.

Morgan turner just got teched by a 15 year old from Japan
Truzzcat replied to Truzzcat's topic in International Wrestling
he usually has a pick he goes to both near and far leg but I think between that kids size and him dropping down so often he just could not get it going. Definitely would have liked to see him put a few more attempts together rather than going one at a time. Hes kinda made a name for himself by chasing guys down late just did not work here. -

not sure if anyone watched Melvin millers match but Im going to need to see the germans blood work and birth certificate. Also the way he was able to exploit the grounding rule and the judge not warning him about dropping to his knees was very frustrating. -
Mineo's "false information" was right -- Teemer to Iowa

Voinovich won states in 2018 at 145 Im not thinking 141 is an option for him. -
This u17 team could feature a lot of future Illinois boys I think with the Raneys and Munaretto.
-
I'm not sure how many of you guys are familiar with Morgan Turner but I believe she is 4-0 against Jaclyn Bouzakis who beat two 1 ranked collegiate wrestlers this year. She also took third at Illinois boys states at 106 when she may have weighed 95lbs and is the defending 43kg cadet world champ. All that to say I thought she was going to push for the 50kg spot for our woman's national team soon so this girl from Japan must be an absolute menace.
-
I believe in soccer the requirement was residency for 2 years and then it was extended to 5 years. I don't think 5 years is needed at this point, but I would agree this is getting out of hand. at 74kg alone had Russia been permitted to compete you would have had Salkazonov,Kadi,Zhamolov,Rassadin,Valiev,Sidakov,Tsabolov There is a world where Russia occupies every spot on the podium. I understand the frustration that some of these guys probably have not being able to compete in the biggest tournaments but I think it should come at some sort of cost for them to do so rather than giving a 23 and me report.

JJ looked bad at u20's and I attribute that mostly to the weight cut it was very uncharacteristic of him
-
A functioning Peterson at 125 could be a problem. Do we think Hughes starts at 141 over Jamison or Carter young?
-
was going to make another thread but seemed pointless this could be the last time we see JO or JB on the mat. I kind of already thought I had seen JO wrestle for the last time, so this seems more like a treat but still two of my favorites to ever do it.
-
I think it was submission underground that did the 20 minute time limit and then put you into a submission at the end of it in favor of the aggressor. I don't love the subjectivity deciding the match its kind of like the ball grabs from back in the day but I think it would encourage offense during regulation.
-
My thoughts on the BJJ scoring. Ultimately the main objective is to win by submission which we can all agree on, To me its very similar to takedowns in MMA. If nothing else of significance occurs I think takedown and control should win out, however I think any mounted offense should outweigh that. For a takedown to be rewarded in BJJ I think you should at least have to pin your opponent or secure some sort of dominant position/setup something rather than just sitting in guard. At the same time though the person who is on their back should certainly receive no points for staying in guard on their back and not doing anything.
-
selfishly I hope they continue with freestyle because that means we will get to see them at their best in college. A lot of times the good greco guys seem to take a step back in college or forgo it all together. Jordyn will also be competing at 60kg for free and I think he can win the entire thing there as well.
-
I believe he and his brother are the only guys to win more than one match. Jordyn goes for bronze tomorrow.
-
Hughes did miss 134.2 for u20's but I have to imagine they figure that out for the season their lineup is considerably better with him there.
-
The way I look at it is at 74kg which I personally think Jordan has grown out of and is not optimal at he still beat rather badly the u20 champ and lost narrowly to a guy who is probably around top 10 at 74kg. being its a none olympic weight 79kg will be pretty weak this year both domestically and internationally his biggest tests in the US I think would be Chance if he drops down, KOT if he wrestles (I don't think he will), David Carr (probably too small). I did not mention Carter because I would guess hes too big if he plans on going 184/197. Internationally it will be Nohkodi who's number Jordan has to this point and usmanov.

I saw Kerk was competing first thought was (this guy has quite the injury history why is he doing high level bjj) and then it made me wonder if his results at the trials made him think about moving on from wrestling. I could certainly be looking too much into it. wrestlers competing and r1 matchups Nolf vs Tye ruotolo: Tye is probably a top 5 p4p guy in the sport so this is going to be a tall task for Jason. Im unfamiliar if this is no time limit sub only or points like adcc's I think both give Jason paths but they both involve dominating with his wrestling and Tye getting tired. Pat downey vs Luke rockhold: Luke is a very very good grappler and hes a big human Idk how pd3's bjj is I know gordon Ryan subbed him pretty fast but Luke is not gordon Greg vs Andrew Felipe: Felipe is an absolute animal but hes a lot smaller Ill include the bjj hero profiles for the guys that don't follow much to take a gander at https://www.bjjheroes.com/bjj-fighters/fellipe-andrew#:~:text=Fellipe Andrew Silva is a,years%2C where he gained notoriety. https://www.bjjheroes.com/bjj-fighters/tye-ruotolo

Bo Bassett Narrows His College List..........From 80 to 73
Truzzcat replied to RandolphTJones's topic in College Wrestling
It's obviously garnering a ton of attention because IM and flow continue to post updates every week. I don't personally have any issue with it and I'm sure as mentioned a lot of kids think it's cool. I just think if he is not visiting these schools just removed them it's a bit disingenuous to put them on the list and then not visit and act like something happened other than they just were never actually in contention. -
Day 1 Amouzad (literally made Zain and musuakev look like they were nowhere near his level I dont think he can function on 2 day weigh ins at 65kg any longer he needs to go up) Zhamolov (the quarterfinal fiasco was terrible I sort of throw out the valiev match though just because they are both elite and have been wrestling each other often for a decade so that match was always going to be weird but he just absolutely dismantled Kadi and Takatani as well as beat salk rather comfortably a guy who had previously had his number) Mijan (no reason in my mind he could not win 6 people just cannot move him or handle his par tear) Azarpira (if he gets a gas tank I dont think anyone is beating him hes only 22) Kiyooka (best leg attacks to a lace out of anyone in the tournament regardless of weight) Ramazonov (not because I think he was even the best guy at his weight or even the second-best guy but this man really had no business medaling here his best result in a big tournament prior was silver at 79kg at the euros in 2020 and he did the damn thing regardless of yaz's health or brooks mental lapse he took advantage of the opportunity)

he may get a flavor named after him too -
1Penn State134.51 2Iowa70.57 Based on flows last rankings Iowa would get an additional 20 points at 157 if they were to get teemer and 14 at 197 with Buchannen based on the rankings. This is also with keuter only getting 2 points at heavyweight which I think everyone would agree is probably his floor. They also have Levi second at 174 which would be 16 points and I think going up two weights with KOT second may be his ceiling. The other weights where a PSU guy could potentially fall down in my opinion are 149 with SVN at 2 just not sure how he looks after all his injuries and Kasak at 4 at 157 which is just a tough weight with guys like Antrell Taylor at 8 and being two weights up from where he started the year last year. Aaron Nagao is also at 7 at 133 which should be where he falls but he was not inspiring last year. when you account for all these things Iowa may be able to buy their way into a team race, but they would need to wrestle their ass off and PSU would likely need to under perform. adding in the additional points of the possible transfers and putting Keuter at 8 its 134.51 to 108.57
