A tax on unrealized gains that only applies to those with $100 million in assets will become a tax on the middle class down the road. The income tax, as originally passed, is unrecognizable today as it was to only apply to the rich. All taxes, no matter what they are, never go away. Example: WA state created a tax on capital gains. Why is this an issue? Because the WA state constitution forbids unequal taxation on property, and income is defined as property. Therefore, there can be an income tax, but not a progressive income tax. So the law was passed and signed and the SCOWA decided capital gains are not income. That's how courts work. All other states in the union and DC and the Feds count capital gains as income. As a result, there is an initiative on the Nov Ballot to get rid of this. The tax only applies to those with high income. But the point is as soon as it was passed and upheld by the court, the legislature started talking about lowering the high income threshold. They want everyone to pay this. That's how taxes work. mspart

For our vaunted dead guy, Did you bother to read the website? It says Quote: The NTP uses 4 confidence levels - high, moderate, low, or very low - to characterize the strength of scientific evidence that associates a particular health outcome with an exposure. After evaluating studies published through October 2023, the NTP Monograph concluded there is moderate confidence in the scientific evidence that showed an association between higher levels of fluoride and lower IQ in children. Unquote: It does not mention how many points lower the IQ goes, but it does show an association of higher flouride levels and lower IQ in kids. mspart

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2022/oct/28/instagram-posts/trump-campaigns-evidence-of-fraud-was-reviewed-bef/ Our ruling An Instagram post claimed: "It’s not that there is no evidence the election was stolen, but that no court had the guts to hear the evidence. They dismissed the cases, not the evidence." Although a number of lawsuits challenging the 2020 election’s results were dismissed for procedural or jurisdictional reasons, it’s inaccurate to say that judges refused to review the evidence of alleged fraud. Court records show that some judges dismissed cases after reviewing the evidence and determining it did not sufficiently prove election fraud. We rate this claim False. In the penultimate paragraph, they say there was no case ever held, no trial ever held. So in effect, there was nothing done other than media folks saying there is nothing to see here and judges not allowing trials to be held. That is not proof that there was no corruption in the 2020 election. mspart

Anyone have a take on her economic plan? What items in the package point to her reinventing herself as a moderate? Rather than list any items myself, I am interested in what you think. There should be plenty for everyone to like or not like and explain why. Perhaps it would be better to have a thread for each major item. But I'm hoping we can have an interesting conversation in one thread. mspart

https://abcnews.go.com/US/dhs-watchdog-warns-urgent-issue-after-immigration-officials/story?id=112964072 DHS watchdog warns of 'urgent issue' after immigration officials allegedly lose track of unaccompanied children The cases in question spanned both the Trump and Biden administrations. ByMike Levine, Lucien Bruggeman, and Laura Romero August 20, 2024, 6:12 AM The Department of Homeland Security's internal watchdog says it has uncovered an "urgent issue" with how immigration officials handle cases involving unaccompanied migrant children, warning in a new report that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has been unable to keep track of all unaccompanied minors released from government custody. The interim report, sent to Congress on Tuesday and obtained by ABC News, said that -- in the past five years -- more than 32,000 unaccompanied migrant children failed to appear for their immigration court hearings, and ICE was "not able to account" for all of their locations. By law, the Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for the care of unaccompanied migrant children, so after they are initially taken into custody by U.S. authorities, it is ICE's role "to ensure [their] timely and safe transfer" to HHS, which then often places them in shelters or qualified sponsors' homes. "Without an ability to monitor the location and status of [unaccompanied migrant children], ICE has no assurance [they] are safe from trafficking, exploitation, or forced labor," Inspector General Joseph Cuffari wrote in his interim report. He urged ICE to "take immediate action to ensure the safety of [unaccompanied children] residing in the United States." Our government at work ruining the lives of kids. https://news4sanantonio.com/news/local/two-undocumented-immigrants-arrested-for-trafficking-teen-at-local-motel-venezula-child-sex Two undocumented immigrants arrested for trafficking teen at local motel SAN ANTONIO - Two undocumented immigrants accused of trafficking a 16-year-old Venezuelan migrant have been arrested at a motel near the medical center. According to federal court documents, the San Antonio police conducted an undercover operation at a motel near the medical center earlier this week, responding to an internet ad for sex at the motel. Authorities say an officer posing as a customer interviewed the victim who told them the two men were selling her for sexual activities. This is unacceptable. U N A C C E P T A B L E !!!!!!! These guys need to go to the pokey and be hung by their toenails and given life sentences. And I'm being nice. mspart

Here's a partial transcript of the video: https://www.foxnews.com/media/commerce-sec-doesnt-believe-news-grim-job-revisions-because-trump-said-it-im-not-familiar-that Social media users trashed President Biden's Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo for admitting to ABC News on Wednesday that she wasn’t "familiar" with the day's major revision to the jobs numbers. ABC News correspondent Kayna Whitworth asked Raimondo what she thought of the jobs numbers revision by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. "I am curious as to your thoughts on today the Bureau of Labor saying that more than 800,000 fewer jobs were actually created than initially reported," Whitworth said. The reporter played a clip of former President Trump talking about the report at his rally in North Carolina on Wednesday. "The administration padded the numbers with an extra — listen to this one — 818,000 jobs that don’t exist. So they said they existed and they never did exist. They built ‘em up so they could say what a wonderful job they’re doing," Trump said. Raimondo appeared to dismiss the news as Trump spreading misinformation and when asked if the revision could be a liability for Democratic presidential nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris, she said no. "No. When I hear that, first of all, I don’t believe it because I’ve never heard Donald Trump say anything truthful," Raimondo said. "It is from the Bureau of Labor," Whitworth responded. "I'm not familiar with that," Raimondo said, despite the report having been released several hours earlier. Bolds, underlines and larger font are my edits. You really can't make this stuff up!! What an stoopid idiot!! Dumb, dumber, dumbest. And she gets to keep her job, the horror!! mspart

She ain't giving up hers that's for sure. Did you see all those mansions and Palatial estates? No way those go without a major fight. All part and parcel of the hypocrisy of the left and they have no idea that they are exhibiting the very behavior they are decrying. AMAZING that anyone can be that tone deaf. But we are all witnesses to it. mspart

And the Commerce secretary had no idea when interviewed. The interviewer said that Trump was talking about how horrible it is that they propped themselves up for so long so they could say what a great economy. Commerce secretary said she wouldn't trust anything that came out of his mouth it is all lies. The interviewer then said, Trump was quoting data from the Commerce department. The Commerce Sec said she was not aware of those numbers. What an idiot!!! This is what we have running this country. Watch the video, it is deeply disturbing how stoopid this person is. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/bidens-commerce-secretary-mocked-after-telling-abc-she-s-not-familiar-with-major-job-number-revision/vi-AA1pdddm mspart

https://www.nationalreview.com/news/seattle-homicides-reached-30-year-high-in-2023/ By Ryan Mills January 10, 2024 12:36 PM At least 69 people were killed in homicides in Seattle last year, matching the highs from 1994 and 1969, according to records compiled by the Seattle Times. Those 69 killings constitute almost half of the 141 homicides recorded in King County in 2023, according to the paper. More than three-quarters of the victims died of gunshot wounds. A decade ago, in 2014, King County recorded only 54 homicides. Homicides have been on the rise for years in the far-left city, but they spiked during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. A record number of police officers fled the Seattle force amid the anti-police sentiment in 2020 and 2021, when city leaders blamed the cops for being instigators of the racial-justice riots that enveloped in the city after George Floyd’s killing. The increasing number of homicides in Seattle and King County mirrors trends statewide. According to a Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs report released in July, there were 394 murders statewide in 2022, a nearly 17 percent increase over 2021. The 394 murders was the highest number recorded since the association began keeping records in 1980. People generally feel a lot safer here in the Seattle area with less police around and more crime going on. https://www.kiro7.com/news/local/king-county-murder-rates-break-records-seattle-prepares-even-fewer-officers/ZN2KBKHD3VAN5MILLNJTBM47EM/ King County murder rates break records as Seattle prepares for even fewer officers By Deedee Sun, KIRO 7 News October 13, 2021 at 8:02 pm PDT KING COUNTY, Wash. — King County is again breaking records when it comes to gun violence. More people were shot and killed between January and September of this year than all of 2020, according to the Quarter 3 report from the King County prosecuting attorney’s office. Gun violence is up nationwide, but for Seattle, the troubling uptick comes as the police department is dealing with major staffing troubles, and preparing for even more shortages once the vaccine mandate deadline comes. “We’ve already exceeded the historic records of gun violence that we saw last year in 2020,” said Dan Satterberg, King County Prosecuting Attorney. “It allows us to confirm what we feel in our gut. Incidents of gun violence, incidents of shots fired continues to grow at an alarming pace,” he said. So far this year, 73 people have been shot and killed in King County, compared to 69 shooting murders in all of 2020. The victims are primarily young people of color. (The department does not track the ethnicities of the suspects, in part because at-large perpetrators would lead to incomplete data.) The second article was from 2021 and it was decrying the uptick in violence. 2022 shot through that and 2023 shot through 2022. 2024 seems to be leveling off so we stay at near record levels and that is a win? I hear a lot of folks on this board say violent crime is down nationwide. We are not feeling it here I can tell you that for sure. mspart

Yes, that has made the news around here in Seattle area. The perp has a history of violent behavior. And he stabbed one of the dogs she was taking care of and dumped it in a garbage can. Rarely for here, he has a $5 million bail set. I think that is a record for Seattle in the last 4-5 years. If he is the perp, he needs some serious life sentencing to happen. https://komonews.com/news/local/seattle-crime-madison-valley-carjacking-homicide-murder-victim-ruth-dalton-dog-walker-beloved-woman-community-member-search-suspect-stolen-vehicle-brighton-playfield-washington-king-county# During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, SPD Deputy Chief Eric Barden said 48-year-old Seattle resident Jahmed Haynes was arrested by members of the SWAT team earlier that morning. Haynes was seen near his residence when SWAT took him into custody. Haynes had a bloody knife and keys to Dalton’s vehicle on him at the time of his arrest. https://www.fox13seattle.com/news/jahmed-haynes-deadly-seattle-carjacking SEATTLE - The man arrested in connection to a carjacking that killed an 80-year-old woman in Seattle's Madison Valley neighborhood had previously served time for vehicular homicide, court records show. Jahmed Kamal Haynes, 48, is accused of pushing beloved dog walker Ruth Dalton from her car and running her over, killing her. He's also accused of stabbing Dalton's dog to death and dumping its body in a park. Haynes was arrested at his Seattle home by SWAT on Wednesday. During a press conference, Seattle Police described Haynes as a "violent person," adding that he has eight prior felonies and a history of mental health concerns. Looks fairly guilty with that stuff on him. This guy is a bad dude. Glad he is behind bars. I don't know about where y'all live but violent crime is been rising in Seattle since 2020 and is near the peak with record homicides this year, assaults are up, theft is up. The thugs are rarely held accountable. I'm really glad this thug is behind bars where he can't hurt anyone else. mspart

That is a proud moment indeed. Getting a youngin to begin investing for their future is quite the deal. Congratulations. My mom "made" me invest the max amount to the company matching level when I got my first big job. Been investing ever since. Almost to a point where I can retire. Probably another year or two. mspart -

Perhaps I misunderstood. I thought the effort was general, not targeted to a few individuals. How does targeting a few individuals help anything? mspart
