  1. I'm not following. USAID paid 8 million to Politico Pro. These numbers, unless they are in the millions, do not add up to more than 8 million. The reported 44k that POlitico Pro supposedly spent would cover only a 3 subscriptions. Hardly worth the time. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/media/article-14368103/Politico-subscriptions-DOGE-defends-Musk.html Politico fired back at what it called 'false' claims from the White House that it is a 'beneficiary of government programs' after the media outlet faced questions over $8.2 million it has received from 'government subsidies.' The huge sums Politico has received from the US government were uncovered by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) dragnet on wasteful spending. The Musk-run entity is In the process of cancelling the payments from several government agencies, including the embattled USAID, as White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the money given to Politico was spent on, 'essentially subsidizing subscriptions to Politico on the taxpayer's dime'. Politico's leadership said the millions spent by the government in subscriptions were from Politico Pro, which they said 'provides both private and public sector clients with granular, fact-based reporting, real-time intelligence, and tracking tools across key policy areas.' So Politico Pro confirms the government gave them millions of dollars. Whether from USAID or not, is this a useful use of taxpayer money? Monies are fungible. Those are millions of dollars Politico would not have had. They were being propped up by the government. No other way to look at it. mspart mspart
  2. I try to do this immediately so I don't have to tag. And it worked this time but I guess it did not translate well. Question: Do news organization normally get federal funding? Answer: It seems so. mspart
  3. Too many moving parts. Need more details before someone can decide if the idea has merit or not. From a very high level, it appears to have merit but the devil is in the details. mspart
  4. I don't care what you care about. That's what this thread is about. stay on topic or go to another thread and go off topic there. mspart

  6. I was specifically calling out OR and WA. Keep up. mspart
  7. In the last 10 years, OR raised 80% and WA raised 110%. Are you saying that is not keeping up with inflation? mspart
  8. Why would this be? mspart
  9. I agree, this is probably a case of one bad apple spoiling the bunch. But when teachers feel they have the right to foist their political and religious ideas onto the kids, that is going too far. I'm sure most don't but there are a lot that do. You must answer questions as indoctrinated or you fail. mspart
  10. https://www.opb.org/article/2025/01/29/oregon-washington-test-scores-mostly-down-on-nations-report-card/ The “Nation’s Report Card” again shows the country’s schools continuing to fall short, with the Pacific Northwest largely following suit. In both Oregon and Washington, scores fell on three out of four tests, amid a national downward trend on the National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP, tests.. Education advocates had hoped that after rough results in 2022, largely blamed on distance learning and other instructional disruptions, there would be a post-pandemic turnaround. But that’s not what the 2024 scores are showing. Of the four main measures, Oregon’s results declined in all but one. The biggest drop was in fourth grade reading, which fell three points below 2022 levels. Oregon’s fourth grade reading scores were seven points below the national average, continuing a disparity dating back almost two decades. While Washington’s recent trend — more falling than rising test results — is the same as Oregon’s, its overall scores are better than Oregon’s on each of the four main NAEP exams. The biggest disparity is in fourth grade reading, with Washington’s average scores nine points above Oregon’s. While Oregon is below the national average on each of the tests, Washington is above. Similar to Oregon and the nation as a whole, Washington schools haven’t shown the kind of rebound that advocates had hoped to see since the pandemic. But state school officials are applauding the state’s results. “I am proud that our students continue to outperform many of their peers across the nation,” Washington state Superintendent Chris Reykdal said in a written statement. “However, the overall results for the nation and Washington are not good enough.” The stagnant results come despite investments that outpace inflation in many states, including Oregon and Washington, according to an analysis by an education think tank based at Georgetown University. The Edunomics Lab’s analysis shows Oregon spending has gone up by 80% since 2013, while reading and math scores have fallen. School spending in Washington has gone up even more — by 110%, according to the Edunomics Lab — while test scores have decreased over the last decade. I wouldn't suggest that test results should increase by 80 or 110%, but they should be increasing rather than decreasing. Spend more money, have your kids be stupider. You can bet that the majority of the 80% and 110% spending increases did not go to the teachers. mspart

  12. In case you couldn't read. In 2022, the Army missed its target of 60,000 recruits by 15,000. Similarly, in 2023, the Army fell short of its 65,000 enlistment target by 15,000. However, in 2024, the Army successfully met its revised goal of 55,000 recruits. So recruiting was 45k in 2022 and 2023 which missed their targets by 23%. In 2024, they made their revised target of 55k. Obviously they changed the target down because of their recent unsuccess. 2024 was still 15% below the targets of 2022 and 2023. In Dec 2024, they got 10K recruits. That means in 11 months they got 45k or 4100/month. If they continued they would have had 49.1k missing the new lowered target, but slightly higher than the two previous years. But, in Dec they got 10k. That allowed them to meet the lower target for 2024. So your explanation is not correct RV. It is not misleading. Dec recruitment was the best in 15 years. Jan was the best in 15 years. That is quite different than "increasing prior to the election". So explain that RV. mspart
  13. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-sign-executive-order-banning-transgender-athletes-womens/story?id=118468478 I thought maybe it was a doctored photo. This is from ABC news. Not fake. Absolutely right. If this is the hill Ds want to die on, go for it. Girls sports is girls sports. For girls. Girls bathrooms are for girls. Girls locker rooms are for girls. Not for boys who say they are girls. Same with women and men. It is biology folks. It is safe spaces folks. Dismiss it at your peril. mspart
  14. https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/military/army-recruiting-record-highs-trumps-win/ WASHINGTON (NewsNation) — The U.S. Army announced its record-breaking recruitment numbers, marking its most productive December in over a decade, with some crediting President Donald Trump for the boost. This marks a significant turnaround for the branch, which has faced challenges in recent years in recruiting enough young people and has implemented major changes to its recruitment programs. Officials now say December 2024 was their best December in 15 years, with nearly 350 soldiers enlisted every day that month. Army recruiters shared on X, “Our recruiters have one of the toughest jobs – inspiring the next generation of #Soldiers to serve. Congratulations and keep up the great work!” https://san.com/cc/us-army-recruitment-reaches-highest-level-in-15-years/ Army recruitment reached its highest level in 15 years, according to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. This increase comes after recent challenges with recruitment, including significant shortfalls in the past few years. Hegseth shared the news on X, stating, “In December 2024, the U.S. Army had its best recruiting number in 12 years. In January 2025, the Army hit its best recruiting number in 15 years.” Recent shortfalls in Army recruitment and new targets In 2022, the Army missed its target of 60,000 recruits by 15,000. Similarly, in 2023, the Army fell short of its 65,000 enlistment target by 15,000. However, in 2024, the Army successfully met its revised goal of 55,000 recruits. Did any of you see this? The Army missed the goal in 2022 and 2023 but met the goal in 2024. But the criteria of success was reduced by 10K in 2024. So still not a win. What is a win is that recruitment is the highest it has been in 12 and 15 years for the last two months. 350 recruits every day in December is 10k+ recruits which is 1/5 of the recruiting goal for 2024. Does anyone have an explanation for any of this? mspart
  15. And are these people in a position to do anything? Schumer said "they would be after" SCOTUS justices if they didn't vote right. Current Minority leader in the house said they are going to take opposition to the streets. Can MTG make this something that actually happens? Who of authority as has said this? mspart

  17. I admit I like most of Trump and gang's moves. Gaza I am not sure of what to think about that. I quoted an article from Daily caller that was not in favor but suggested it might be a feint for some other intent on Trump's part. I would guess that be closer to the truth actually. Getting a handle on USAID - long overdue. Dropping DOJ funding for sanctuary whatevers - long overdue and should apply to other funding as well Getting the southern border secure with Canada and Mexico playing ball - Long overdue. That's just a few. mspart
  18. So far we have done pretty well mspart
  19. Here is some quotes from a daily caller article. Not to kind on Trump for this Gaza deal. https://dailycaller.com/2025/02/05/donald-trump-gaza-united-states-take-over-israel-middle-east/ President Donald Trump is flirting with a poison pill that would ruin his America First, MAGA agenda. Tuesday evening, Trump proposed the U.S. occupy Gaza in his joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu... The day of his inauguration, Trump the businessman described Gaza as if it were a prime slice of real estate ripe for development. “You know, Gaza’s interesting, it’s a phenomenal location, on the sea, the best weather. Everything’s good. Some beautiful things could be done with it,” Trump said, also telling a reporter who asked if he and the United States would help with its rebuilding. “I might,” Trump said. Well, Trump says a lot of things that never come to fruition. It’s possible, even likely, that he is saying something absurd as a litmus test to shake things up and freak out the media before he pursues a more pragmatic strategy. Maybe he thinks his bold proposal can be used as a bargaining chip somewhere down the line. That being said, the very idea of illegally claiming ownership of Gaza is as farcical as it is insidious — and it deserves to be shot down and ridiculed. The 2 million Palestinians living in Gaza do not want to leave, and other countries in the Middle East do not want to take them in. How would the U.S. go about removing and housing 2 million Palestinians? It’s logistically impossible without sending in masses and masses of U.S. troops, spending trillions of dollars, and coordinating with regional powers who would not want to play ball, to say nothing of how evil it is. Let’s liquidate Gaza, and get thousands of Americans killed in the process, so Jared Kushner can build a fancy beachfront resort. Fantastic idea, and I’m sure poor people in rural Kentucky will be thrilled to hear they have the opportunity to spend spring break at the five-star Kushner Hotel, where they will be catered to by a Palestinian olive farmer whose entire family was obliterated by an Israeli drone strike. Trump is flirting with a bona fide poison pill, a foreign policy disaster, à la George W. Bush, that would do irreparable damage to his agenda. Bush 3.0. The Bush Junta. It’s Iraq-War level bad. Afghanistan-level bad. A reprehensible boondoggle. A complete waste of blood and treasure. Trillions more in debt. Countless innocent lives were lost, American and Palestinian. You can picture the neocons still swimming around the D.C. swamp, silently breaking the surface, poking their lizard eyes out and licking their chops. If only we could get another shot at nation-building. It will work this time, so long as we send in enough troops and drop enough bombs, we can turn the desert into shiny, beautiful glass. And in order to put America First, Trump must first resist the temptation of intervention, lest he risk another two decades of death and debt. Just thought it interesting a Daily Caller writer agrees with some of RVs positions. I'm not sure if DC puts in oppo stuff, but this would seem like one for sure. Like I said, I have no real opinion on this except I'm not sure how the US confiscates the territory. mspart
