People on twitter seem to be hyper fixating on the lockett loss but Doucet beat a guy that has been an olympian and was semi competitive with snyder and Ghasempour. Ramirez beat the only guy to go 6 with Lee at the olympics last year. Facundo bumped up like 15lbs to beat a u23 Asian champ and I think it was a good win for Casey as well. There are some really special things happening in Stillwater.8 points

For the most recent Oly Trials, despite being in State College all week Suriano was the last wrestler by far to pick up his credential/athlete packet etc. He didn't show up until 5 minutes before weigh ins and as best as I could tell he took an Uber to the venue in just his singlet and slides, had the Uber wait while he came in, got his credential, weighed in and then went right back out the door to his Uber. Doesn't help answer the question but that's my Suriano story and seemed as good a time as any to share it.5 points

When you go to your frat's Halloween dance party your senior year, already in a "sublime and elevated" mental state, and hit it off and eventually hook up with the hot brunette in the bouquet of baguette costume, only to learn the next morning that she is a freshman and turned 18 months ago, that is one thing. But when you serially target and message freshman girls en masse, like what Carter is alleged to have been doing? yeah that's a little odd.5 points

This is a guy who is trying to force Coke to change their formula, Harvard to change their admissions, and ban paper straws. There is nothing too small or petty to escape his attention. And this is not a small thing. I do not have the same view as RV on basically anything, but I absolutely believe Trump would get involved here. Maybe he didn't "sign" the order, but he did give it.4 points

Everyone knows about the lazy wrestlers who just want to get off the mat and get some rest - The Pinfellers. But what about the guys who like to play with their food, get in the extra work, score more points - The Rinse and Repeaters. There was a time when there was no tech fall. If you wanted to take a guy down, cut him ,and do it all over again (and again and again), you could. It wasn't your job to stop you from running up the score. It was the other guy's job. So it is a pleasant surprise that the top match point scorer of all-time comes from the TF era (1985 - present). I give you the guys who racked up the points on the way to victory. Of course, this isn't all about takedowns. Back points were available. But it is a lot about takedowns. These totals do not include any points scored on the way to pinfalls, as those are not recorded in the brackets. Now let's look at just the TF era. For this we will go a bit deeper to include anyone who scored at least 75 match points in a single tournament You may be wondering how that compares to recent times. Well, wonder no more. The leaders for the 2025 tournament: Anyone else surprised to see Mesenbrink outscored at his own weight?4 points

Can't let @Wrestleknownothing have all the fun. Let’s kick things off with a head-scratcher from the NCAA archives… Nash Tillman wrestled in three NCAA tournaments, competed in five matches, but faced only three different opponents. But here’s the real trivia bomb: He lost to the same opponent in consecutive matches, not just once, but TWICE, in back-to-back years—each time against a different guy! The Breakdown: Year Weight Round Opponent School Result Score 1964 147 champ 32 Dino Boni Pittsburgh (Pa) Win 5-3 (dec) 1964 147 champ 16 Veryl Long Iowa State Loss 0-4 (dec) 1965 147 champ 32 Veryl Long Iowa State Loss 1-2 (dec) 1965 147 consi 8 #2 Loren Miller San Jose State (Ca) Loss Fall 4:44 1966 145 champ 32 Loren Miller San Jose State (Ca) Loss 1-2 (dec) In ‘64 and ‘65, Nash’s tournament run ended with back-to-back losses to Veryl Long. In ‘65 and ‘66, he finished with consecutive losses to Loren Miller! Has anyone else ever had a string of losses to the same opponent in consecutive NCAA tournaments? Or is Nash Tillman in a league of his own? I would have thought having consecutive losses to the same opponent would be very rare, however, since 1929 it seems to have happened around 90 times (still doing some validating on some). Any guesses for recent wrestlers who fall into this bucket?4 points

Just what we need...another poster with completely outrageous and ignorant posts. I thought at first he may be okay and I could learn from someone who thinks and lived a different life, but he is reaching, and may have gone past, RV level craziness.4 points

Ben Askren just went from hero to "eff it, put this game on Legendary mode and I'm about to set the world record." I've never been more pumped to see someone spit out 5 pound curls in my life. If this guy is any more inspirational we may not have any brick walls left because we ran through them all thanks to him.4 points

Villasenor 125/133 Zinkin 125/133 Ramirez 133/141 Rainey 133/141 Rainey 141/149 Forrest 141/149 Wolbert 141/149 Vega 141/149/157 Robideau 157 Routledge 157/165 Hickman 157/165 Guerrero 157/165 Lockett 165/174 That's 13 guys in potentially 5 weight classes, the lowest ranked is Guerrero at #11. Everyone else is top 5 in their weight class. Other than Vllasenor they are all in the classes of '25 or '26. Even with selective redshirting some very good wrestlers will never start and could be third string.3 points

Updated stats as of 8/1: 309 wrestlers entered the transfer portal (which represents about 10-11% of all D1 wrestlers) this off-season. 179 wrestlers that entered the transfer portal and changed teams 68 wrestlers that had entered the transfer portal, haven't yet found a new home, and are still on their old roster 47 wrestlers that had entered the transfer portal, and are no longer on an active roster of any team. 13 wrestlers that entered the transfer portal but decided to remain with their previous team 2 wrestlers that entered the transfer portal, but decided to move on from wrestling3 points

I suspect that what takes @Wrestleknownothing a couple of minutes may take most of us hours. That's probably due to either talent, experience, or both. I own a machine shop in PA and like nothing better than seeing some of my best employees watching YouTube videos while the 5 axis mills they've programmed are making all of us lots of money. Wrestleknownothing is the Joe Dimaggio of this forum perhaps. Makes the difficult look easy.3 points

I quit my job back at the beginning of 2023 to travel around for most of the year. Have yet to find a new one since due to the fun of the government. However, previously to that I was an instructor, and spent a lot of time in the classroom with nothing to do for 8+ hours a day. That's when I started doing all of the data gathering. No kids. Just really enjoy getting/researching data/history.3 points

There were three examples last year. Tyler Wells (Minnesota) losing to Evan Frost (Iow State) in the blood round in 2024 at 133 followed by an opening round loss in 2025. These matches are also notable because Frost won them both without scoring a takedown (2-1 and 2-0) Maximus Hale (Penn) losing to Dylan Fishback (NC State) in the first round of the 2024 consolation bracket at 184 (1-4 SV) followed by an opening round loss in 2025 (3-10). Jordan Greer (Ohio) losing to Seth Nevills (Maryland) in the consolation pigtail at heavy in 2024 followed by an opening round loss in 2025 (0-5).3 points

I was just going to say the same thing. Although if he is just wrestling at his walk around summer weight, being ~15 pounds over 149 in late July seems pretty reasonable. Not to mention, there isn't a bout at 70kg. Similar to Facundo wrestling at 86kg who definitely won't be going 184. For the Pokes line-up, however, Swiderksi and Teague battling for the spot at 157 is probably best case scenario. 125: Spratley 133: Figs 141: Hughes/Vega 149: Jamison 157: Swiderski/Teague 165: Lockett 174: Facundo 184: Ryder 197: Merrill 285: Doucet That line-up is salty. It's crazy to think this is only the beginning for OKST's revival. They are going to be absolutely ridiculous come 2027-2028.3 points

I'm at Cadet Worlds and J'den Cox went to the rules meeting where they emphasized new edge interpretations. I've been to a bunch of these and they often emphasize something at Cadets as a test case. Whether or not that gets widely adopted is another matter. (I remember one time at JR Worlds (Brazil) i went to rules meeting and they said something was going to be called a certain way and it never was). so take it for what it's worth. anyway - was wondering what you guys thought about this https://rokfin.com/post/208831/JDen-Cox-New-Edge-Rules-Emphasis3 points

Hard to say. During the regular season he had a 42% bonus rate. It was during the Big10 and NCAA tournies that he really locked it down. In 2014 he only scored 15 points on the way to his title. But it is unknown if that is the lowest total ever for a title winner with 5 decisions. In 1953 Cornell's Don Dickason scored 13 points in the 4 matches for which a score was recorded in the bracket. The fifth match is just listed as a ref's decision. If the score was 0-0 or 1-1, the "title" would belong to Dickason. Dickason won three of his five matches by ref's decision. One was recorded as 2-2, one was recorded as 1-1, and one had no score attached. There is probably no truth to the rumor that Dickason's uncle was the ref that day, but he is the only wrestler to win three matches by ref's decision in a single tournament.3 points

I don't listen to Sean Hannity. He is irritating. Regurgitates the same lines every time I see him or hear him. Nope not Hannity. This is just such a stupid thing to defend RV. It is not the right's fault that they point out when the left acts like idiots. mspart3 points

Less credit given for Hvy pins especially for Taylor being 200 lbs heavier than opponents. He was a very good wrestler for hi size, but I don't think he was ever regarded as an "outstanding" wrestler3 points

What's very disheartening, and this is a both sides thing not at all isolated to left or right, is that when these mass shootings happen, the first and most important thing everyone wants to talk about is race and/or political leanings. There are hundreds of millions of people in this country, of all races and political views, the large vast majority of which are good people who would never think of doing anything like this. So maybe there are bigger issues with these situations to discuss, maybe the core fundamental problem with these people is not race and politics?3 points

I saw that, specifically mentioned Maple. Maple has done a dang good job of recruiting and coaching. Glad to have him around. Hopefully it’s for a long time. Most importantly the recruits seem to really like him. Bachmann, does he project as a 125/133? Couple years still before he hits any campus. 141/149 to me wouldn’t surprise me. He mentioned Iowa also, so we’ll see.2 points

There is no doubt that Mesenbrink is an outstanding wrestler, but I do think people underestimate how incredibly weak 165 was last year. The only truly consistent guys were Mesenbrink, Caliendo, and Hall. Just compare last years NCAAs versus the two years prior.. Taylor Amine 9 Griffith Hall Steed 10 Kharchla Amine Sparks 11 Amine Cerniglia Scoles 12 Olejnik Thompson Minto Edit: Forgot to say that I am excited to potentially see Joey Blaze and Lockett at 165 if they both go this season.2 points

I didn't see anyone claim they covered it all. Many were assumed to cover large portions... but a large portion could be $50k to some or $5k to others. It's nonsense to try to paint someone in a negative light that offered any sort of monetary help and/or any sort of social media promotion towards help. Better than 8 billion plus still isn't good enough? These cunts (Paul/White) should get our gratitude for this. We can hate on them for the 50 million other things they actually di that is wrong or unethical. For this, I say thank you.2 points
-
Nope. And because people like Paul and Dana White are so polarizing, folks want to dog pile on them and $HlT on them. Them simply mentioning the call for help goes a LONG way with how famous they are. Add in that any amount over $0 is more than over eight billion people donated... and that is a lot, too. I challenge everyone trying to call them out to post their transaction amount (a screenshot or receipt) as proof. Otherwise S.T.F.U.2 points
