Coach Robie exenmplifying the VT motto “This is Home”.18 points

Hope both men have successful surgeries. Prayers up. The Latona's have been a part of VT wrestling for nearly a decade. Everyone knows Sam, but his older brother Dom started wrestling at VT in 2016. The Brothers have always been hard working, humble and selfless. Sam sacrificed a couple years with a severe cut to help VT get the best lineup on the mat. Nice to see the family receive a wonderful gift from Coach Robie. VT Wrestling Tweet14 points

I'm not surprised that Penn State isn't doing this. I'm a little surprised at what salty b I t c h e s some of the fans are being about the event daring to exist.14 points

Thoughts: --It's just so stupid that this is even illegal. It happens legally thousands of times a day in the porn world and the OnlyFans world (and in parts of Nevada and Maine), and thousands more a day in the "arrangements"/"sugar daddy" world, and it's barely a rounding error a way from what happens millions of times a day, e.g. men buying dinner and sort of getting something in return, and women seducing wealthier men for access to his wallet. Much of human history is built on men who provide best being the ones who get ass. Where, as here, there's no indicia the person lacked the capacity to consent, it is a simple business transaction, morally indistinguishable from paying someone to mow your lawn. So I'm sorry, but I just can't bring it upon myself to be even remotely troubled by this as I don't see it being in any way wrong. It's a crime, but right up there in seriousness with jaywalking and loitering. The people acting all butthurt about this are ridiculous. --I'd always happy to make an exception for the religious preachy types when they're abject hypocrites, but does it here? Not that I can see. I don't doubt that he's a devout Christian, and trying to live a Christian life, doesn't mean he's criticizing the lifestyles of others who aren't devout Christians and saying we're all going to hell, nor is he out there trying to jack up the penalties for prostitution or preaching against it. I'm only bothered when the religious right tries to shove morals down my throat that they themselves won't adhere to. Maybe he violated his own professed beliefs, but that's between him and himself. I just have no reason to care. --He's probably in hot water with his wife, but truthfully, we don't even know that. For all we know, she signed off on it or agreed to look the other way, as maybe there's things she can't or won't do. Or maybe not -- maybe she's furious and ready to rip his nuts off, but once again, that's solely between them. I'm not willing to make any judgments about his marriage any more than I will about his morality. --I'm sure his PR people will help him write up some big public apology, talking about how he let down his wife and kids and his God, how he'll try to do better and live his life according to God's plan, blah blah blah, but none of that changes the above. That's understandable, as the sponsors will expect it. But it won't change what I said above. Bottom line: For his own mental health and personal happiness, I hope he's able to conform his conduct to his beliefs and his commitments to his wife, but it makes zero difference to me if that entails changing his conduct or changing his beliefs/commitments.10 points

its because he's an arrogant, overhyped and overrated fighter. Nothing to do with where he went to college10 points

I don't think it is good for the sport for UVU to be pillaging other schools like this. After PSU invests in them UVU just swoops in and takes them. It aint right.10 points

If prostitution wasn't joined at the hip with human trafficking and women being used against their will, then you'd have some really great points here about the moral differences in paying for it directly or not paying for it directly.9 points

As a Penn State fan and alumni, I really don't understand the hatred towards this event. I get why Cael will say no, the timing of it doesn't really make any sense, but the current wrestling season calendar doesn't either. If you have a team full of kids attempting to make world teams throughout the fall, they likely aren't "optimized" to compete in early November. This being said, as a wrestling fan, why would you not want to see at least most of the nations top teams compete. Particularly in a dual meet setting.8 points

And when they added multiple turns and when they added step outs. Techs are a lot easier to come by in Freestyle. I love almost everything about the current freestyle rules, but I would personally like to see us go back to one turn and then you have to change holds. We got to see a lot more great wrestling IMO7 points

In spite of the fact that it ended with the biggest upset of the tournament, 285 was the most chalk weight. The sum of absolute deviations from seed was 77, just ahead of 125 at 81.5. This also made the heavies the second most chalk weight since the 33 seed era began. Only 165 in 2019 was more chalk. At the other end of the spectrum 141 was the most busted bracket this year (but only sixth most in the 33 seed era). A lot of the "bust" came from five of nine guys seeded to go 0-2 finishing with win(s), and three higher seeded wrestlers doing the opposite.7 points

F'n Davis, still can't hit a leg attack when he needs to: "After a struggle, Davis was subdued by police. Police noted that after the struggle, Davis broke the officer’s wristwatch and radio earpiece, and ripped the body camera out of the officer’s vest."7 points

It's a lot of fun to do if you are thinking about it Rodent. I can't say I did good, but it was fun. I was bound and determined I would not lose due to passivity, so I initiated action and my inexperience and lack of ability got me in trouble from there. But I had a blast doing it. mspart7 points

Stay classy Carter starocci. I bet Carl is very happy about the amazing young men he is molding into classy upstanding adults. now this. it’s interesting As he’s insulting prostitutes while defending his virtue signaling buddy for ….. slangin prostitutes?6 points

Exactly. This is why people are reacting. It’s not the same as lots of other athletes/celebrities that get caught. It’s because he has a holier than thou persona and speaks as an authority of Christian morality. It’s beyond hypocritical. And all the other guys in that camp giving him a free pass reveal their true colors too. It’s all a schtick.6 points

I'm pretty certain it's because the whole jesus thing is shoved down everyone's throats nonstop. How was your ankle pick? Thanks to god. How do you defend an underhook? Mine's powered by the lord. 100% jesus. Etc Etc Etc. If you're going to talk that much talk then you better walk the walk. Because not all of us believe what you believe, so don't be a hypocrite in a terribly public way.6 points

Guys who get hookers are more relatable to the non religious crowd. Lol. That’s laughable. Most humans don’t get hookers. Nothing to do with religion.6 points

2011: Burroughs beat Nick Marable at the 2011 US Open immediately after NCAAs then beat him again at WTT. Dake chose to go to Univeristy Natl's where he got 2nd to Howe, then DNP at WTT. 2012: *Burroughs ran through the 2012 Olympic Team Trials where there were no byes 2013: Burroughs beat David Taylor at the 2013 US Open (Dake didn't compete) and then beat Dake at WTT. 2014 Burroughs won the US Open over Taylor then beat him 2x more at WTT. Dake did not compete at either due to injury. 2015 Burroughs got a bye to the finals and then beat Dake 2x under new direct bye rules. 2016 Burroughs became the real Magic Man when everyone disappeared from 74kg. He won the olympic spot, Dake fell short at 86. However Burroughs did not medal, therefore no direct bye in 2017. 2017 Burroughs once again beats Dake at the US Open, gets a bye at WTT, and then stop me if you have heard this before but JB beat Dake to make the world team. 2018 UWW creates a new 79kg weight class and Dake finally gets a chance to make his mark as he makes his first world team and first world championship. Both win medals. 2019 Dake and JB both enjoy byes to the finals, win spots and world medals 2020ne OTT JB gets the direct bye as the returning 74 medalist, Dake gets a bye to the semis as the 79 medalist and proceeds to snatch Nolf's soul on live television. Dake finally wins. JB and Dake switch weights for a couple years until 2024 OTT where Dake gets the finals bye, JB gets a bye to the semis and loses to Nolf meanwhile NLWC/PSU fans show their true colors. Dake had plenty of chances over the years, he just didn't capitalize on them.6 points

This actually makes the kid more likeable. Not one of those Jesus-crazed robots that fill out the rest of the PSU roster. What's more concerning is that he was taken down and ridden out by a cop.6 points

After the Stanford dual, Ethan said that 149 was a 1 year deal. However, if you are offered a bag of money to stay at 149, you may make that sacrifice and stay down. The reason he went down was because we had two good 157 in CJ Hamblin and Stiles and we were struggling at 149 with injuries. Stiles was actually losing to Hamblin in the Orange/Black wrestle-off and had to come back and get the win in OT. So everyone decided with the team lineup and the landscape of 149, that Stiles should go down. 149 was very tough cut for him to make. His first time down he was up on Gabe Willochell by 6 or 7 points and gassed hard and lost. After that he seemed to manage it ok.6 points

I wouldn't redshirt him. You redshirt him and he's somewhere else the next year.6 points

The top teams was invited. If a wrestlers is called to the mat but doesn't show up its a forfeit, you don't change the name or invalidate the guy who ended up winning. PSU doesn't want to put their foot on the line, fine, but they don't then get to say the name should be changed. If PSU wants to be the National Duals Invite champs then they can show up, but they are choosing to let someone else win that title.6 points
