Western State is currently known as Western Colorado University. Pretty solid D2 program traditionally. Hiram is currently a D3 school in Ohio that restarted the sport not that long ago. Tom Jarman coached at Northwestern for a while before finishing his career at Manchester. Recently passed away.3 points

I'm sick of these onlyfans girls just waking up deciding to fabricate a wide variety of crimes and misdemeanors to pin on a random person.2 points

It doesn't matter. It is common amongst the PSU faithful to remind us that Syd Bartlett has an OnlyFans and this means that Carter has to be innocent.2 points

I think the funding opportunities were the determining factor in the last "golden age". Living the Dream fund, RTCs, the development of different media coverage making sponsorships and youth camps more profitable - All things that made the business end possible for our professional athletes. We can't know how well some of our guys would have done after their single Olympic cycle post college. I'm just happy to be decades past reading about it in a printed magazine. The future sure looks bright! It'll be interesting to see how the next generation navigates all the new opportunities. I'm aware of being old fashioned when it comes to loyalty. I could make an argument correlating loyalty to success, but I'm not invested in defending it. There is something to be said of the college years, though. JB was loyal to Nebraska and Manning. DT to PSU and Cael. Dake to Cornell and Snyder to tOSU, at least for those formative years. And, when those guys did move around, it didn't always correlate to more success, although that could have been more an issue of age - Perhaps with the exception of Dake who...well, never mind. Anyway, I'm curious to see how the young guys navigate these formative years in the age of NIL. I'll never argue against free markets....But, I have experience with 20yr-olds and their cognitive development that makes me cautious about seeing them chase money around. I hope they can develop into men that win Senior titles, and I suspect that it will depend on their investment in the programs they end up in.2 points

On members not serving the actual two year missionary tour. Steve Young, Donnie Osmond, Merlin Olson and many other high profile Mormons don't serve one. "Every member a Missionary" and "Every young man should serve a mission" is taught, but high profile types often do not serve. The reason trotted out is generally "they do more good being famous than serving the mission". This translates to "they give Mormon, inc more money from being famous. It is all about the Money. Mormon, inc (or MFMC as it is often called) is a very rich group. Biggest private landowner in a few States. Major stock portfolio with over $ 125 Billion in it.1 point

He was not a player at 97kg he was 0-3 last year outside of the African games, and to me he just looked like a 97kg that did not diet. I assume they both struggled finding a good opponent for Wyatt and simultaneously his coaches probably did not want anything that would derail his confidence.1 point

None more bitterly and pathetically than myself, but I'm mad at them for being vapid boot lickers, Cael won't even let them lick his boots.1 point

There’s a zillion coach-speak phrases pre prepared for these situations. “we’re looking into it, we don’t tolerate this kind of behavior, not our values” etc I don’t really care, but it is odd given how often athletes get in trouble and coaches have to at least pretend to care about it.1 point

I'm obviously conflating a bunch of stuff into the need for one formal statement, as if the aggregate was a mandate, which it isn't upon reflection. You're off saying I'm acting like sanderson owes me something, more like i'm used to programs maintaining the illusion of transparency.1 point

That really shouldn't matter. He was on campus, using facilities, under Cael and the accusations that these shenanigans were also going on when he was a student.1 point

I remember when George Billy (or vice versa) assaulted a kid on the mat, unintentionally messy him up really bad, and Koll made a statement along the lines of "We're embarassed by George's actions, they reflect horribly on him and the program, we are not going to extend the damage to the program by dealing with it in a sensational or public manner," and I thought that was a good, if not terribly satisfying, response. Cael's silence reads like "i'm untouchable, F off".1 point

To be fair, I think it’s more than just a few message board posters that would like to hear a comment from Cael about the Bartlett/Starocci story…1 point

I think you should have gone with a "resident athlete vs student athlete" thing as opposed to "prostitution and steroids aren't scandalous".1 point

We (the community) have been saying that for years. I simply don’t believe it. Look at participation numbers at the high school or college level. Why is there dramatically fewer athletes competing in free ….. as a 16 year old high school kid for example. Good sport is good sport. People would watch it or attend if the product was fantastic. MMA for example. Good product. People pay to watch it. It came from nothing….. To now super stardom.1 point

Then why do more fans go to NCAAs vs the us open or final x. Why are there 10x more posts on the college forum vs the international. Why do only a small % of folkstyle wrestlers participate on the freestyle circuit. What % of posts on flow wrestling are folk vs free. Their business model is clicks. Surely …. They cater to the one that gets the most clicks right ? Freestyle is simply more boring than folkstyle to the average fan. Are their fanatic freestyle fans. 100%. But they’re a small % of the overall fan base.1 point

Fair. I just want the annual freestyle style rule changes being pushed on folkstyle to stop. That Along with the narrative that the world stage is more important to justify said stylistic changes. some even go so far as say just dump folkstyle altogether. the narrative that we’re not competitive enough on the world stage is also nonsense imo. Somehow our u20 team just dominated to world first place …. All while pesky folkstyle didn’t somehow ruin them! Folkstyle is a far more entertaining product. Let’s keep it that way.1 point

When you go to your frat's Halloween dance party your senior year, already in a "sublime and elevated" mental state, and hit it off and eventually hook up with the hot brunette in the bouquet of baguette costume, only to learn the next morning that she is a freshman and turned 18 months ago, that is one thing. But when you serially target and message freshman girls en masse, like what Carter is alleged to have been doing? yeah that's a little odd.1 point

Excellent! I saw them twice myself... @ MSG in NYC in '79... 1st tour after Keith Moon's death w/ Kenny Jones behind the drumkit. Went w/ my brothers and my best friend. It was just as I would suspect it would be... FANTASTIC and LOUD! (We were opposite the stage and in the upper tier even!) The second time was several years afterwards @ Shea Stadium... early October and it cold & drizzly. Not as great. The Clash opened for them... THAT was a good set. D31 point

I loved The Who growing up. Saw The Who only once, but Daltrey twice lol. The first time I saw Daltrey was in 1985. Before cellphones, I was just a 16 year old waiting outside in the December to be picked up by my father. As I was waiting, I saw the tour bus only about 50 ft away and people were boarding. My buddy and I walked up and were able to catch Roger, tell him how great he was an get an autograph. He was much kinder and more gracious than he needed to be. And short. Took my son, who loves rock, to see The Who in 2022 when he was 17. They performed a very Tommy heavy set early on, but focused more on Quadrophenia later. No Punk/Godfather though! The boy and I then saw Daltrey last summer.1 point
