Re sick: had a HS teammate who was cuttin' a brick. Could never tell if he was sick or just desecated. In the Regional final, he loses in overtime for the first time in like 70 matches (he was a jr and 2x state champ). On his way off the mat, he starts puking . . . like all the way to the locker room, where he starts evacuating from both ends. He couldn't figure out whether to sit on the throne or bow to the porcelain god. His mom comes in and tries to clean him up. In the midst of his complete abasement, our hardass coach comes and tells him if he's not on that podium to get his medal, he's off the team. So, he got up, did his best to wipe the puke and sh1t off his face, hands, and warm ups, and staggered to the podium. I'm not sure if he ever forgave that coach.2 points

I can usually guess guys within <5 lbs. With the ladies, I get in my own head. I know what they weigh, I just don't want to offend. Then I start second guessing myself, trying to figure out how much they want everyone to think they weigh. Then, someone's pissed off.2 points

All I know is Hughes made weight for Michigan Open and traded of with Witcraft in couple of Nov duals and looked good. But my understanding is Witcraft won the spot and he looked good in Vegas. The last dual Wutcraft was dinged up and report Hughes as well so they forfeited 133. Let's see what happens on Monday.2 points

Haha that’s actually a great gig for an old retired wrestling coach. From what I saw today, Gable is a better than ever. No one is beating him in the US.2 points

Messenbrink and nolf both roll under clubs and shoot under the club not sure if that counts.2 points

I’m not sure if it will be Kerk or Hendrickson, but I think one of them beats him. Getting flashbacks to 2022 Spencer Lee with most people seeming to assume him winning is a foregone conclusion.1 point

I agree. If Kerk had PSU's staff for their last matchup he would have won.1 point

Telford looks pretty thin. There’s probably 5 or 6 guys I’d take over him. I think it’s Gwiz vs Taylor.1 point

No, I don't think so. According to Smith, KO is dealing with some kind of ding and will be out of the lineup during January. Seems to be an on going theme in Tiger land.1 point

I don't have any inside info but I am guessing that Mendez moves up to 149 next year for the following reasons: 1 - It will be better for his FS goals to cut a little less during the college season and then drop to 143 for FS. This is the same strategy that Yianni, and Myles Amine used. 2 - Mendez is just so competitive I could see him wanting to go up to take out Henson - this will be espesially true if Henson wins again this year. 2 - It will be the best move for the team as it will allow both Bouzakis and Davino to get into the lineup. I may be wrong but I think that may be that shakes out.1 point

When did Bassett start college? Because I don't think he has, so take this crap about some high school kid to the high school board, you weirdo.1 point
-
Speaking of, Pico had a wicked snap back in the day. Bassett and Pico would be a fun fantasy match. Ironside has said that the best defense to hard snaps is constant forward pressure. I say downblock and counterattack. Shrugs, deadlifts, and neck flexions are also helpful.1 point

The best thing I can think of is that it would fit a possible narrative. "Complacent super talent reluctantly returns to college wrestling for a paycheck". Not saying I think thats the truthiest truth but if he turned in a lackluster performance and took a loss it would fit said narrative.1 point

And I thought my hot takes were bad. Hendrickson is not strong enough to overcome Kerk through his superior technique. I thought he was, and I was very wrong. Hendrickson's technique is better than Steveson's overall toolbox. But his bread and butter from feet plays right into Steveson's superior bread and butter. He is not able to overpower Steveson when riding him and therefore won't get the stick which would be his leveling factor. Steveson lets Kerk do the Kerk stall every time they wrestle. He's superior in every facet from match prep to in-match intelligence to technique, might not be stronger anymore but certainly strong enough to weather anything Kerk can cobble together one move at a time. I'll take the former Olympic gold medalist over the guy who couldn't get past present-day domestic gatekeeper Gwiz at OTTs last year. And Gwiz didn't get past Zillmer who got handily beat by Parris, and we all know what happened last time Gable came off the street to wrestle Parris. So sure I guess there is a chance if Gable tears something. But I wouldn't root for that chance.1 point

Well, take off the last part of my quote and just leave it as "He had the flu". The Gophers scratched 13 guys at the last minute. If they had the same bug I had that week, I wouldn't have considered getting out of my chair, let alone wrestling in an unnecessary open tournament.1 point

Gotta give credit to CSUB. 0-12 last season, and 2 D1 wins this year1 point
-
How confident are you that he loses? That's a pretty long shot. Are you actually predicting this to happen or just putting it out that you think Gable could lose this year? I've said it in a previous thread that I do want to see his resolve if someone can take him to deep water. I'm curious how much fight he'll have if he gets tired and has to battle. He hasn't needed to/done so since the 2021 Olympics.1 point

Guys, Bassett is wrestling HS kids and he should be moving into hisJunior year in college. There is a reason his dad got suspended and he can’t wrestle at States.1 point

It's part of the deal with B1G+. The Student U broadcasts are hands-on learning that happens to be broadcast on a relatively large outlet. It's also a way for BTN to make some money with a cheap broadcast production. Sometimes you get guys who know what they're talking about, but other times you'll get a complete noob. The only way you can "hold their collective feet to the fire" is to not subscribe.1 point
