  1. Much higher level wrestling in this dual than in the Scuffle finals...

  3. I haven't been this apathetic about a wresting season in 40 years, there is more talent out there than ever. There were some great matches at the All-Star but since then it seems like every marquee matchup that is anticipated doesn't happen, dudes don't wrestle or show up for the tourney at all. Last year at this time Crookham had beaten Vito and Blaze beat #1 Ramos as a HS Junior. and there were a dozen other storylines. We are almost halfway through the season. what are the highlights so far? Anything. Josh Barr meeting expectations is all i can think of so far. Perhaps Ferrari.

  4. 6-6 team score after 149. UNI gets upsets at 125 and 141, and almost another one at 149.

  8. you're one second away from being banned. that's your warning. it's utterly stupid to connect the two, and utterly disgusting to insinuate. and why? because you're protecting people that enable the rape of children. anyway. that's your warning, scumbag. test it.

  12. I agree it's been a down start to the year. The main reasons: 1. Big-time early-season tournaments are way down. After CKLV, there's basically nothing. The formerly great tournaments have been reduced to JV competitions. PSU was a whisker from winning the Scuffle with three frosh redshirts and a backup. 2. The number of competitions are down overall. Compared to 10 years ago, most guys have about 5-7 fewer total competitions. Schools are cutting back, and early-season is taking the biggest hit. 3. More record-padding. Many of the bigger programs are seeking out the lesser programs for non-league duals, the result of which is fewer competitive duals (to go with fewer competitive tournaments). There's exceptions, but overall, most non-league duals are thrashings. 4. More allowing top wrestlers to skip out on duals. Missou's coach has spoken about how much more leverage the wrestlers have these days. Some of it's a cultural shift, and some of it's just a recognition of how much more clout the big-name wrestlers have in the age of the portal and NIL. Coaches used to run a tight ship, expecting guys to make all the big duals, but now if they want to stay home for a longer Xmas break, there really isn't much the coaches can do, or the wrestler may seek out friendlier skies. This also is an underlying cause of #s 1-3. 5. The broken qualification system. Once you're a lock (or on track to be a lock) for an automatic berth, there's really no incentive to do anything else. No need for more comps, and no need to take unnecessary risks. This is an underlying cause of #s 1-4. 6. All that matters is March. National duals have been dead for a while, and efforts to have a national dual meet championship or to make duals count to March point totals are so far in the rear view mirror, that even the former proponents of dual meets have stopped caring. As a result, apart from mandatory league duals and tournament, the rest of the season is just an annoyance -- a chance to get hurt, and not much else. Also a cause of #s 1-4.

  14. I think this is wrong. We don't need more good guys, we need more good stories, and we aren't getting any because everyone has figured out that you shouldn't put anything on the line before march. My god we got Gable Steveson BACK and no one cares.

  15. It is truly an embarrassment of riches. I can't imagine any college roster has ever had close to the talent that is amassed on this PSU team. Nagao is an AA and I kind of doubt he beats Davis even if healthy, Joe Sealey in RS, Ryder in RS, The Mirasolas in RS, Facundo can't get into the lineup.. That's 6 wrestlers that will likely be AA contenders from the moment they step into a starting role. Seeing Barraclough go to UT Valley and currently ranked 4th in the country has to have Facundo considering a move. It's only going to be harder to get into the starting lineup next year.

  22. UNI with the big upset win 24-9. Pretty impressive performance as a team. Flo had them ranked 8th and Nebraska ranked 4th in the dual rankings. Their next big test is at home against Ok St on the 24th

  23. Final score UNI 24 - Nebraska 9. The announcer said that it was the first time the Panthers beat the Huskers in a dual since 1964 (tie in 2000).

  24. Oh, give me a break. You think someone that wants to wrestle in college is going to leave the sport altogether because Kerkvliet is 256 pounds? D1 wrestlers are a different breed, they are going to make the best of their situation regardless of the weight. The argument should strictly be on creating more equity for the tweeners, and stop with this argument about these supposed wrestlers that are leaving the sport because of the weight class.

  25. The VT forum agrees and some voiced some choice words. It seems TJ’s daddy chimed in too and appears to be getting in arguments with VT fans. That’d be embarrassing for a wrestler to have a parent arguing with fans.

  28. 125 No. 6 Brendan McCrone (R-So.) vs. Maximo Renteria (R-Jr.) - McCrone loses by a point. Seemed rusty and wrestled a bit sloppy. 133 No. 9 Nic Bouzakis (R-So.) vs. Damion Elliott (R-So.) - Looked good. Wrestled well. 141 No. 2 Jesse Mendez (Jr.) vs. Krayle Stormer (R-Jr.) - Same 149 No. 12 Dylan D'Emilio (Gr.) vs. Ayden Garver (R-So.) - Wrestled fine. Two four time state champs. 157 No. 9 Paddy Gallagher (R-Jr.) vs. Christopher Hamblin (R-So.)/Ethan Stiles (R-Fr.) - Paddy also seemed a bit rusty. 165 No. 11 Sammy Sasso (Gr.)/Bryce Hepner (R-Sr.)vs. Murphy Menke (R-So.) Sasso wins 1-0. Gets his 100th win. 174 No. 11 Carson Kharchla (Gr.) vs. Sean Harman (Gr.) Kharch wins 14-3. Good start and then slowed down. 184 No. 14 Ryder Rogotzke (So.) vs. TJ McDonnell (R-Fr.) Rogotzke gets another fall. 197 Seth Shumate (R-So.) vs. Vaun Halstead (R-Fr.) Wrestled well. Gets a fall. 285 No. 7 Nick Feldman (R-So.) vs. Brett Mower (R-Sr.) Feldman is back. TF.

  34. I guess my point is that I rarely see a 125 who isn’t doing terrible things to their body to make weight, and McHenry is a guy who looks like he weighs 115 soaking wet. That young man is a world class athlete and he’s giving up 15-20lbs to his competition. I’d have the same feelings about it if he were still at Michigan. Hell, Iowa too. Now, is he a statistical outlier? Absolutely. The entire world is getting bigger, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see 57kg go up to 59-60kg in the near future. So I understand why there isn’t a weight class that low. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  38. ND is a very physical team and well built for the playoffs. It's a true toss up. Anyone saying otherwise is just being a homer which is totally ok. Makes it more fun

  39. I liked ND making the final when the brackets came out. Just the way they have been playing ball is good playoff football. Very solid all over. ND/PSU had the makes of a great great game.

  43. Seems like the least amount of TV aired matches/events I’ve ever seen. Used to be able to catch some duals and at least a tournament final or two between one of the ESPN channels, Big10 network, and the ACC network by this time of year. Now almost everything’s behind a paywall of some sort.
