I don't know how it plays out, but as time goes on its becoming obvious that the marriage of athletics and academics makes no sense past high school....4 points

Well actually she did. How many millions of people did she let across the border as border czar? Who do you think paid for taking care of all those people ... you did. And you get to keep paying.2 points

Yeah, I totally hear that. I just think sponsors think differently than fans on here and would rather put an athlete with the perfect hs record (or whatever) next to their brand than the guy spending time in development at the next level. You see it in other sports too, even in like basketball where kids commonly reclassify to college (and then the league) sooner to get their bag. They spend their time walking through their hs season instead of spending their senior year competing at the next level because it keeps the hype machine going, which now keeps the NIL machine going too, and because it mitigates risk of getting injured or exposed if they're not yet ready for prime time (which is a ridiculous expectation, but it happens). I'm cool with whatever PJD or any of the other upcoming superstars decide to do. Just saying that the calculus has probably changed about the decision to compete in high school vs. spend that time training at the RTC/OTC.2 points

This topic comes from emotion rather than data supported facts. Data shows that mainstream media is biased. 9 of the top 10 mainstream media companies lean left. Even the left opinions that mainstream media is left biased. I have shared this data directly. People did not lose trust in the mainstream media because it goes against their beliefs. Rather, people lost trust in the mainstream media because it was making statements that the consumers knew to be wrong. And now people are increasingly looking for media of any form that provides a verifiable truth. This is hard to newly comprehend, but also, it is true.2 points

i think some wires are crossed in this thread. there are two types of payment being discussed: A) money + compensation to athletes from the school B) NIL there are two different things. especially for part B no one 'deserves' anything. they are independent endorsement deals.2 points

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/42286584/vanderbilt-qb-diego-pavia-suing-ncaa-eligibility-rules Once the courts decided that college athletes were essentially professional athletes and could get paid, it was obvious that the next thing to be challenged would be the eligibility rules. The Vanderbilt QB, who has no NFL potential, is suing to get back eligibility for the years he spent at community college. Does anybody think it's likely that the courts eventually get rid of the 4 year competition limit and possibly even allow professional athletes to reenter NCAA competition? Will we look back at NCAA athletes who only competed for four years similarly to how we see athletes from the time of Dan Gable and Hodge who only competed for 3? Maybe Max Dean was ahead of his time.1 point

Would you pay to see this friendly exhibition match? Let's say it's folkstyle, main event at the top of a card of friendlies. It might be an entertaining fundraiser and good exposure for the sport. Proceeds could go to, idk, a pool that assists D1 programs at risk of getting cut. I can't even guess if it would be a competitive match. Cael's getting up there in years, but he's also Cael.1 point

The new Wrestlestat rankings are out this morning (I believe Intermat updates tomorrow). Take a bow Freshmen. They have entered the building. Below are the highest ranked freshmen who were unranked in the pre-season rankings. Virginia Tech leads the way with three freshmen on the list (and both are in the top 14). Followed by NC State with two top 19 entrants.1 point

Yeah I know last year Pitzer from Pitt would have gotten surgery and taken a MRS but it was too late in the season to qualify to he wrestled and delayed the surgery till after Nationals.1 point

This just in. Over the weekend Aaron Brooks was forced to appear at halftime of the PSU football game to turn over his 197 pound title to a guy they found in the stands who weighed 197 AND was taller than Brooks. When asked about the seemingly arbitrary way to determine a national champ, Brooks said, "Some SOB on Intermat realized I was too short for 197, so they are making me do this. He better pray to Allah I do not find out who he is." Sixty seven year old Baron Rooks, seen clapping to Brooks' right, was not surprised. "I knew I could take Brooks on the measuring tape and equal him on the scale. This is the right thing. It is just a shame it took so long," Rooks said. Rooks, a manager at a mall-based fast food chain in Omaha, Nebraska is planning to display his well deserved trophy next to the cash register.1 point

NIL has never been designed to be equal. No serious person is talking about equal NIL. Nor would it even be possible to make payments equal because there is not a single payor who could control it. Stop conflating NIL payments with the potential payments made directly by schools to athletes as part of the House settlement.1 point

Fair enough brother, I can't claim to have inside intel on how the NIL decisions are made. In general though, I do like the idea of even the elite kids finishing out their high school years. Even if it delays their wrestling development, the delay is very slight, and is offset IMO by the benefit of getting to live a normal life of a normal high school kid. I worry that that leaving high school early to focus on wrestling may cause premature burnout if your life is all wrestling, all the time.1 point

The ILLINI ended up with 5 hammers, but one was for Caelan Riley in Pool D. I think he's at a minimum a Pool C wrestler, more likely, Pool B. Smart move by the coach to give him some confidence. I don't know how long Ramazan Attasauov will be out of the lineup, although he did make the trip. Lucas Byrd, Danny Pucino, Kannon Webster and Braeden Scoles went undefeated and won Pool A hammers, and they are all still undefeated on the season. That's gonna be a Murderer's Row. Zac Braunagel had a one-point loss in the finals to Michael Beard. That score was reversed when they met two years ago in the NCAA tournament. All in all, superb weekend for ILLINOIS. Here's a meme chart for Coach Poeta after the ASU dual:1 point

I'm just so upset. Poor Joe hits a political walk-off post midnight grand slam in several states simultaneously while putting together the best campaign and inspirational message ever - besting FDR, HST, JFK, LBJ, Jimmy, WJC, and BHO in voter turnout. Then, in his very next at-bat they pull him out of the batter's box because he missed a curve ball. He still had 3 months to get it together. To get the band back together. He had his mojo rising (I know, the actual lyrics are Mr. Mojo Risin'). Yet, they sent a minor league sub-Mendoza line hitter to finish his at-bat for him. Kam-Mendoza struck out, unsurprisingly. She never had gotten an electoral hit outside of woke-california - the equivalent to T-Ball - in her life. Poor poor, Joe. Poor us. I feel so bad for him and for us. I will settle down but have a heart and give me some time.1 point

Let's do some math. I hear certain contributors to this forum have an affinity for it: T = 2,384,312 votes, B = 2,280,607 votes. Total votes = 4,664,917 2% of the vote is remaining to be counted = 95,202 votes to be counted. T is winning by 103,705 T lost Georgia by 11,799 Therefore, Biden got 115,504 more votes than Trump did out of the last 95,202 votes that arrived. JROSS - how can you not have trust in that?1 point

How can the man who got 81 MILLION VOTES!!!!!! not run again? That is INSANE. Joe B is the most inspirational awesome and efficient vote getter EVERRRRR and the MAGIC DEM!!! To deny that he could do it again is akin to being an election denier. It is BASELESS and there is NO EVIDENCE that he could not get 81 million votes again. Sheesh.1 point

End of an era. We are lucky with what Art Martori invested into the sport, especially before the RTC model took shape and it seemed like all the top guys were relying on Sunkist. Not to mention saving the ASU program. A true friend of the sport and USA wrestling.1 point
