The really smart coaches wait until the 2nd half of practice when the studs are a little tired to jump in. Helps keep the legacy going.5 points

Also funny that he brags that he is the highest paid college wrestler by far, and then criticizes people for taking a pay day3 points

I feel like this may or may not be irony...3 points

I think he should bring along a well-established and liked head coach like Chris Bono. I'm sure us Wisconsin fans would be sad to see him go but would completely understand.... We would be happy to welcome Coleman Scott to lead our team in Madison Someone please make this happen.3 points

Weirdness ? Coleman Scott is probably burning every piece of Oklahoma state clothing that he owns right now . He sold his house left a pretty good head coaching position and moved his family across the country with promises he was the next head coach , now one way or the other he’s out of a job , how many years will he have to wait til another job even on the UNC level presents itself?3 points

Maybe, but I'm not sure about that. I remember reading a long time ago that Cael thought it was tough recruiting in Iowa--in part because the Hawkeyes were so popular. Meanwhile, he liked PA's output of All Americans, and thought a better deal would be being the top program in PA. It's not certain Cael could have landed as many elite recruits as the Iowa State coach. His PA-native champs include Haines, Starocci, Cenzo, Nolf, Retherford, Megaludis, Wright, and Ruth. That's a lot of in-state fire power.3 points

Surprised @ionel hasn’t jumped on this but looks like it’s Richison, not Richinson. Wrestled for Central Oklahoma in the 90’s and apparently has donated over $25 million to them and their football stadium is named after him.2 points

Not to mention that Cael forced out Bobby Douglas, his mentor, in order to be promoted to Head Coach. Then up and left the program after that. How is that for loyal? Check out the 3 minute mark in this StaleMates video if you don't believe me.2 points

@Jimmy Cinnabon's response will be to start another thread to rebut this thread rather than respond to this thread.2 points

The admins come to me and say, "Apply for the job, it's yours but we still have to go through the process of posting it and taking applications." Nothing legally binding there, but it has and does happen. That's how I believe this went down and it just didn't happen.2 points

First of all, this is a great hire for OSU. Going out and getting Taylor, but it is a total screw job to Scott. I think it is a big kick in the nuts to Smith also. The entire coaching carousel at OK St. has been confusing to me and there were a lot of things that have led up to this that I would have never seen coming. The surprises to me started when Smith let Eric Guerrero go. He had been Smith's right hand man for many years. Then Esposito is gone. Next they lure Scott from a Head Coaching position at UNC to come in and coach with Smith in his final season. I can't believe people think that Scott would leave a Head job at UNC for just a chance at becoming the Head Coach at OK St. I would think that the only way he would leave is if he was told that he would be the man once Smith did retire. To me it seemed like a done deal and he was Smith's choice to replace him. I may be wrong here, but I wouldn't think that Scott would leave a Head Coaching job and move his family half way across the country if he was not told that the job was his and he is the one that legendary coach John Smith hand picked to continue the Oklahoma State legacy.2 points

I don't believe this to be true, yet admittedly am guessing. I think it's more likely is that John said he'd vouch for him and being there a year would give him a big leg up. It's hard to believe the AD promised him a head coaching job a year from now and it wasn't Smith's to promise. I'm not even sure legally the AD could promise Scott a future HC job with all the red tape involved in public university hiring... I too feel for Scott, but it seems more likely he took a calculated gamble and lost.2 points

I love how a month ago people were saying that DT would never leave State College 'because he has M2, and cows, and a juice bar!' lol2 points

Ryder is a M2 kid. I don't think it's crazy to think he'd go with Taylor and company considering the log jam of middle weights at PSU2 points

BTW: I'm fine with Tulsi Gabbard as VP and Trump thrown in jail first day in office. I just feel back for his Secret Service detail.2 points

Truthfully Iowa should be making that call. At least try to get him on the staff. But they won't, because they're just too arrogant to ever look outside their own alumni base.2 points

That's a good point. It was that reduced output this year that first made me think about PSU in antitrust terms, as reduction in output is classic monopolistic behavior. They don't compete as much because they don't have to, as even if they're only 90% sharp that's still more than enough to win.2 points

Can we please take a moment to once again reflect on how marvelously wrong CP and the Flo clowns were once again.2 points

I always chuckled at those comments stating he'll never leave cuz of cows, some businesses, and M2 which is still fairly new. As if some cows and smoothies are gonna stop him from taking the job of a lifetime.2 points

Wow. I try not to be hyperbolic, but this feels like the first genuinely groundbreaking hire since Cael joined PSU. Not only do I expect Taylor to pull many top recruits, but Oklahoma State in the past 18 months has pulled many of their own, and had boosters step up for some more. DT is not walking into a bare cupboard. They already had the bones of a top 3 team on the way in.2 points

The original post was informing about a known American wrestler who will not be attending the last qualifier and what his reasons were. The shared post from Finsilver was just stating facts. The country he is representing will not let him attend because of safety reasons. He did not agree with it or disagree with it, but says he understands. His reason for not being able to wrestle has nothing to do with your statement about Israel committing a genocide. Your statement is a highly politicized statement to say the least. So maybe try keeping your non related wrestling comments to twitter or some other echo chamber you find appropriate or stfu.2 points

You never know. Cael competed at Worlds one year while head coach at PSU. It didn't exactly detract from his effectiveness as coach. If OSU was smart, they probably told him they're fine with him competing again if he wants, so long as he can balance it with the job.1 point

This is going to be fun. Glad DT is taking the opportunity. I was beginning to believe nobody would ever be pried loose from the Death Star.1 point

I would just leave it at, pyles is so respected that he finds out the latest news on X with everyone else.1 point
