  1. From what I have been reading, you can't take a retroactive Olympic redshirt - it has to be declared before the season. I don't think he is getting another year.... however, it wouldn't surprise me if a lawsuit changed the NCAA's mind. You can pretty much get anything with the NCAA right now.

  4. I look forward to hearing how he got here. By here I mean someone who doesn't matter. From the first big NIL/employment contract, to a slow slide toward irrelevance, to a series of flirtations with returning to the place he has relevance, to a weird backtrack, to a fast slide to finally arrive at irrelevance just in time to miss out by mere weeks a chance to matter again. I would love to here his version of conversations had with WWE bosses and the decisions made. Knowing what both parties know now I have to believe neither would have chosen that contract followed by a waste of so many prime years. No third NCAA title, no World title, no second Olympic title, no WWE success either. At what price?

  6. You are deflecting. It would be very powerful for Palestinians to point to Hamas as barbarians who committed an atrocity and shouted that they are unwelcome. If Hamas’ support dried up it would help to kill their movement. And they may very well lay down their arms. Why don’t you suggest to your protestors to shame Hamas and declare that Hamas should surrender. Don’t you agree that this would end the fighting and the horror? If you care most about innocents, then you all should be shouting for this. Don’t point at just one party you feel is bad, point at them both. I believe you won’t. Hypocrisy is thick.

  8. I'm convinced his comments were all about his care and concern for other teams and their top guys going to the portal.

  9. he looked much better physically (thought he looked kinda fat at worlds) there was not a ton of exchanges in the match though he gave up 4 going for a chest wrap and then kinda chipped away. Both guys seemed super tired at the end though in a match that was not wrestled at a high pace so not super inspiring imo Taz would still be my pick and he looked beatable for Snyder as well to me imo. I do think its very likely that Sadulaev is closer to his early 30's than his late 20's though so something like this could be expected. I know there was a lot of steam about him being a few years older than he was listed early on in his career.

  11. To be honest, I didn’t think there would be a chance of a DT or JB being available when I made that post. I would consider those two to be the exception. And to be fair, I don’t think many people thought that Taylor would not be an Olympian right now, at least when this post was made. i never really troll but can admit that the post I made was a bit trolly. And the reason I made it was because I was frustrated at the clickbait. As someone said, CP loves to talk about wrestling and is considered an expert, so when he posts a video indicating that he has some inside news, when he actually doesn’t, was very frustrating, and what I call clickbait. if we look at the details at the time, Coleman Scott (an Oly bronze medalist) uprooted his family and left a D1 head coaching job (at a program he’s put a lot into building) to take an assistant job. OSU had to have given a pretty strong indication to him that he’d be the next HC, otherwise, he’s much more of a gambler than I’ll ever be. To suggest, at the time, that anyone else (who was available) would be considered seemed asinine, at least to me. At least, if OSU was honest and kept whatever word they gave to Scott. Had DT or JB been available at the time of this video, I wouldn’t have been so bold. So, a combo of frustration with the clickbait and the odds at the time, I think what I said was fair and reasonable. Would it be a sh***y thing for OSU to hire DT if they promised Coleman something? Yes. Should they pass up an opportunity with DT? No. Again, this assumes they promised Scott something. They’ll have to throw some money at him.

  14. Up front, I'll admit that I don't like WWE. It's a stupid soap opera. That probably influences my opinion, which is this: Gable Steveson comes out of this as the babyface, while WWE is the heel. How un-American was it for them to hold off on a decision until after the OTT? Are they rooting for Russia or Iran? Was this a way to shuttle him off to the UFC? The WWE had to have had a handler working personally with him. Did that handler not know that he has a nonfungible talent with a limited window of opportunity?

  15. The current AD is a huge supporter of PSU wrestling. Sandy Barbour was as well, I saw her at almost every home match and several away matches including B10's and Nats. I never heard a negative word about Sandy in relation to wrestling. People manufacture drama where there is none. With the exception of Kennedy the staff has been relatively unchanged in a decade. There must be a bit of sunshine since people go there and stay.

  19. You can argue over details of whether this qualifies as a command center, but that misses the point. There is plenty of evidence of weapons stored in hospitals/schools, and fighters operating there. Why you want to find an excuse for that is beyond me.

  21. End of an era. We are lucky with what Art Martori invested into the sport, especially before the RTC model took shape and it seemed like all the top guys were relying on Sunkist. Not to mention saving the ASU program. A true friend of the sport and USA wrestling.

  23. I don't think he did anything dirty. He's just got a...different style. I'd imagine he's frustrating to Wrestle against for people at his level. He doesn't move as smoothly as others do. He and Hamiti kinda have that same motion that's a little... awkward. I don't think he's trying to be dirty or get in anyone's head or any of that. Maybe I'm wrong, but it just feels like you can tell the difference between the contrived "tough guy," shit vs the just relentless, non-stop motor. I'd say he's more in that later group like a Lincoln Mcllravy. If you're getting poked in the eyes and getting clubbed, it's probably a bit more difficult to tell in the moment however.

  24. Israel needs to rip the poisonous weed of Hamas out root and stem. Hamas can end this by surrendering, by no longer fighting back. Since Hamas was the EVIL perpetrators of the Oct 7 massacre and they clearly expected and wanted a vicious counter attack that would harm many that they hide behind, why aren’t innocent palestinians and their supporters demanding and protesting for Hamas to surrender? @uncle bernard - do your protests call for the surrender of Hamas? I believe you agree Hamas is evil and should be held accountable. It is the quickest way to end this. The innocent Palestinian people should rise up against the animals that use them as shields.

    1 point
  27. What's wrong with chasing a bag? These young men have very limited time and options to make as much money as possible within the sport of wrestling. We in the working world often "chase the bag." Capitalism at its finest. Pay me or someone else might. I do not like the fact my fav team could be raided at any moment, but these young men desrve to find the best deal possible. Young men are just suppose to turn their backs on 100s of thousands of dollars just to continue to wrestle for the "home team" then go get a job and try to scratch out a living when they graduate?

  28. I did miss where you said Ryder, but sure, Facundo is a great example as a guy who's...almost viewed as a failure or a "bust" as PSU...because he wasn't an AA as a Freshmen at one of the most loaded weights I've ever seen. And I'm not talking about anyone here specifically, but there's generally this kinda 'eh, Facundo, he's replaceable.' That is how much immediate greatness has become expected out of PSU's top recruits(particularly in the middle-upper weights). I'm certainly not dying on the Hill that Josh Barr is going to become the next Nolf, Zain, Nickal(certainly not Ruth)...maybe I shouldn't have said 3,1,1,1 as my point was...he's really good! That's it.

  30. I don't disagree, and you see in the post you quoted I mentioned Ryder and other teammates. I've been a season ticket holder since before Cael was hired. I've seen it all, 90% of the guys coming in are blue chippers , some of his biggest competition will be in the room. People also diminish Facundo, he beat Karchla and Amine. (He also kept Amine from being a 4 timer in HS)

  31. Some folks may argue he did USA wrestling dirty with the timing of his decision not to wrestle at 2023 Worlds. I wouldn't. I hope he was able to make and save some money. I hope he wrestles internationally for the USA in the future and is successful. No ill will from me about the choices he's made. Just part of growing...

  32. WWE really did him dirty with the timing of his release. Can't blame Steveson for chasing a paycheck. In hindsight, he might have been able to rack up some pretty good deals if he stayed in college with the way NIL seems to be heating up.

  34. We'll certainly know a week from today... qualifying the weight is tough business, but the USA FS team should qualify all their weights for the Olympics... pretty much all the time. (Just wish the Olympic committee just cave in and have ALL the weights included. Nagonnahappenthough... but we all wish it would! ) D3

  35. I never wrestled in a wrestling room with Windows. Campbell University has a wrestling room with natural light coming in from Windows. In my opinion it makes a huge difference. Also state of the art weights, equipment, and locker room. Wrestlers lounge with study area. https://express.adobe.com/page/r6GhdjA9CiDak/

  36. sense I think I've distilled the thought I'll just put it here. Pyles annoys me because for someone in his position he should be at least one of three things and probably two: 1) A person of encyclopedic knowledge of high school, college or senior level wrestling. He doesn't have any of that. He has a good general knowledge base, but compared to say Willie's knowledge of highschool wrestling, or Jason Bryant's general knowledge he's far behind. 2) Someone with interesting and occasionally valuable insights into the sport itself. His commentary is incredibly banal, he's not very articulate, and he relies on existing narratives when he should be focusing on the narratives that arise within the flow of individual matches. The last one is why I like DC and JB, they're pointing out aspects of tactics and gamesmanship. 3) Someone with inside knowledge. This one gets very annoying because he is constantly referring to athletes by their first names as if they're cronies, yet news never seems to break on Flo first. It gives the vibe that if he knew something interesting he wouldn't ever report it. I wish I could couch it in a way that's not essentially an attack on someone for doing their job, but we're a niche group of people who love the sport, and this is the place to voice such concerns.
    1 point
  37. I see what you mean, and i'd even say fair enough to the idea I'm overly cynical about pyles, because as I said I think he thought it was a slam dunk like everyone else but he had to pad out his video somehow. So I'm giving him a test he can't really pass.
    1 point
  38. yeah but at the time Pyles said it was going to be scott and was wrong. The fact that he padded out the video like he always does with lame talk half this forum could have done off the cuff doesn't mean he had inside knowledge or made a smart prediction...

  39. i feel like @darkenergy is trying to vindicate pyles for making a long boring video framing the obvious as his informed opinon.

  41. For someone who knows nothing about wrestling, you are pretty secure in your wrestling opinion ha ha!! We thought the same with Zain last time and he got beat and didn't make it. I'm not saying he will do that again, but I don't think anything is guaranteed. But I really want to think it is. I anticipate that they will win the tourney at their weights. But you just never know. Again, best of luck to both of them. mspart

  43. This is me. Also his articles are can be difficult to read at times due to a high level of spelling and grammatical errors. Add in that he uses polarizing terms that are very rarely true (lock, always, certain etc.) as well as he misremembers results that are very easy to verify against (or for). I absolutely love the guys style, though, and the fact that he is still quite young gives me hope that he will be fine.
