Never gonna happen. A ref will never, should never, decide if someone "deserves it".4 points

First of all throw anything that happens against Penn State out the window. They’re that much better than the rest of the field. Second of all most of Iowas transfers are from other conferences to the big ten where the competition and grind of the dual schedule are far tougher than where they came from.4 points

I thoroughly enjoyed the meet and have a couple thoughts: 125 is going to be very interesting. These guys are are pretty equal and anyone can seemingly beat anyone in any given day. I think Ayala and Davis were evenly matched and it could go either way at any time. I also think the knee down stance in this case would be a stall if Davis had actually attempted shots (although if starocci's throat block is a stall call than this is). Bartlett has proven he's improved. Closer matches but he definitely is better than last year. Kasak and Rathjen are pretty much equal and that match could go either way but I'm not sure either guy is an AA at this point. In any event everyone is chasing Lovett and from what I saw last night from him good luck. MM is quite better than Caliendo and I expect that gap to grow. If the matches get "tighter" it will only be due to Caliendo turning into a typical block/slowdown/low offense guy who tries to "Lewan" a victory. Starocci's may have a conditioning problem or a boredom problem. Not sure but we will see. Maybe he's still isn't 100%. Brooks is Brooks. Kerk right now is a monster. Bastida may have something for him but I think the size/strength edge will be too great.3 points

Caliendo will close the gap on Mesenbrink the way recent Brands trained Iowa wrestlers closed the gap on David Taylor, Bo Nickel, Retherford and Jason Nolf.3 points

Don’t hate it, don’t love it. Not something I’d waste my time tweeting about. But on the contrary it apparently is something I’d respond to on a message board to give my neutral opinion about….2 points

iowa's main problem is being in the unpleasant position of being the only team that gets compared to PSU in a meaningful way.2 points

Not really. The OP is asking if guys get better at Iowa. The other guy is arguing PSU against Iowa. If the question is PSU against Iowa then PSU is the obvious answer. They recruit, develop and win at a higher rate than any other team and it’s not really comparable. Iowa vs the rest of the field, Iowa looks pretty good. They have had the most non-PSU success of any team since Tom took the reins. They also have had many transfer make big jumps coming to Iowa. Namely Lugo and DeSanto.2 points

In Brands' press conference he said they wanted Keuter to feel how fast Kerkvliet comes, so he knows. That sure sounds like a coach getting a guy ready for the post season.2 points

Shane is a weird dude. I love him but he’s strange but I love that he’s quirky and I just think saying Resilite is just one of his quirks.2 points

I’m watching “the Dual” episode 1 after seeing tonight’s commercial. I’m convinced now more than ever that Dan Gable and his protégés have created a new language. They use the same words we use in English, but I think the sentences they’re stringing together are only mutually intelligible to one another.2 points

This was not a close match, but a fun one. Mich@Neb was basically the same. These Friday Night Duals are awesome. Not good, not great, but AWESOME. Shane 'Sparksy' is absolutely slaying it with this gig (Gibby is doing a great job, too.) Friday Night double headers are nothing short of genius for promoting the sport. (Shades of Friday Night Fights.) What a great time for wrestling.2 points

Alejandro Valdes Tobier is listed at 65kg for Cuba - he'll be the toughest guy in the bracket for Nick Lee to get past IMO. Valdes is a two-time world bronze medalist (2017 and 2018) and had a really close match with Yianni at Pan-Ams last year https://www.flowrestling.org/video/10957823-65-kg-gold-yianni-diakomihalis-usa-vs-alejandro-valdes-cub He also has notable freestyle wins over Khinchegeshvili, Bekbulatov, Haji Aliyev, Franklin Gomez, and even Coleman Scott. Valdes is listed at 35 years old though so definitely past his prime but still super crafty. That said, if Nick Lee gets rolling early, I wouldn't be surprised if he wins handily.2 points

The 10-10 match against Nick Lee, and beating Pletcher, Kolodzik and Joey McKenna on the same day don’t show you he’s improved over last year? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point
