  1. What a run. Looking forward to the touching moment at the medal ceremony when Tazhudinov tears up hearing the Bahrain national anthem for the first time.

  5. Did he just have the best tournament we’ve ever seen? Has anyone else ever knocked off two guys with 4+ world golds who are still in their prime? And in such dominant fashion?! Micic had an amazing tournament too, but not quite that good

  6. In terms of USA vs. Russia? Not even close. But how about Russia vs. Russia... Russian expats would have beaten their actual team if scored collectively: Russia Expat Weight Result Points Weight Result Points 57kg 5th 10 57kg Bronze 15 61kg Silver 20 61kg -- -- 65kg 5th 10 65kg Gold 25 70kg -- -- 70kg 5th 10 74kg Gold 25 74kg Bronze 15 79kg Gold 25 79kg -- -- 86kg -- -- 86kg 5th 10 92kg -- -- 92kg Silver 20 97kg 5th 10 97kg Gold 25 125kg 5th 10 125kg -- -- Total 110 Total 120 57kg - Abakarov (Bronze) 65kg - Musukaev (1/2) 70kg - Ramazanov (Bronze) 70kg - Akmataliev (5th) 74kg - Tsabalov (Bronze) 86kg - Shapiev (5th) 86kg - Sharipov (5th) 92kg - Nurmagomedov (Silver) 97kg - Tazhudinov (1/2) 97kg - Magomedov (1/2)

  7. Freestyle is best for the highest level of wrestling. Just getting an exposure can show at least an ounce of difference between two highly skilled athletes. We have all seen extremely boring folkstyle matches between two wrestlers that are evenly matched end in something boring like a few more seconds of riding time. The freestyle rules allow for more than just control in order to score when you have two skilled wrestlers. The element of exposure forces a wrestler to be aware of their positioning at all times. Freestyle being 90% on your feet gives you a lot more opportunity for scores from a variety of positions. Both folkstyle and freestyle have their places in America which is great. There are exciting matches and boring matches in each style. There are weird rules in each style also.

  8. Dennis Hall v Brandon Paulson Matters of the heart / Hall stops Paulson in 3-OT epic to grab Greco-Roman spot (sfgate.com) Fun Fact...I wrestled Brandon Paulson in 8th grade to qualify for nationals...was not a very long match and did not end well for me...LOL

  9. At least? Dude went 3-1 in the quarter of death. Almost pinned a guy who hadn't lost in a long while. Most were predicting one and done. Show some respect to three wins done three different ways.

  12. I can understand a debate between ranking Dake and Taylor now. However, what is the possible justification for people putting Taylor over Snyder? Margin of victory or recency bias are the only reasons I could think of. Snyder has same number of world golds, same number of Olympic gold and more medals overall. Plus an all time great in Sadulaev that prevented him from winning a bunch more golds. And he did it all at a younger age than DT.

  13. The way he dispatched Snyder reminded me of how Mavlet Batirov outclassed Abas. Such smooth counters to redirect the attacks.

  24. Kids events usually have a big following, for obvious reasons. High school is a mix of supporting kids and tribalism based on where you live/went to school. College is the next step in tribalism, too. People want to identify with institutions. The individual names change, but the constants remain the same. If the product at all those levels was Freestyle you'd very likely have the same support as American Folk has now. Freestyle results are increasing due to RTCs and the ability to support yourself via success in the sport, not because American Folk has improved.

  29. All this slander against Illinois boy and leader of the Chicago Galaxy Wrestling Club, our 57kg world champion, Steven Micic needs to stop immediately. You really think that 32 other wrestlers plus their coaches plus UWW staff would let him not be on weight? If you honestly think that then you should also be adding to Willie's 9/11 conspiracy thread. And Richards is going to beat Gilman. Again. Illinois rules.

  30. I like Gray's chances. I can't imagine it'll be pretty, but hopefully Gray's composure will overcome the Cuban's aggression. I'm sure she's studying.

  31. Hildebrandt neutralized the Mongolian's power in the first period, not so much the second. That second exposure was the real difference. She was knotted up - seemed like she could have looked away and bellied down, but when you're built from al dente spaghetti, it's hard to separate from a meatball.

  35. I said it yesterday - we likely just witnessed the changing of the guard yesterday. Just as quick as Sadulaev and Snyder stormed the world at a young age laying waste to everyone in their path, Tazhudinov either had the tourney of his life or is following the same script.

And you even admit you haven't even listened to the song. Why didn't you listen to it?? Because YOU thought it was a far-right white trash song?!? Man, not only are you a narcissist, but an idiot as well. But hey, keep tooting your own horn...LOL

  38. I am far from the wrestling mind that a lot of these athletes and coaches are, but it would seem to me, there needs to be a more concerted effort to utilize baseline defense and save the chest wraps for when they are "really there" or you "really need it." A go behind is 2 points and so is a chest wrap from the knees. Kendall Cross, the funkiest of all our Olympic champs once said that he really started to get better when he was convinced to use baseline D first and save the funk for when it was really there.

  44. It's not that Dake doesn't want to score and is content with close matches. That was his old MO. Now he has become obsessed with the Dake bomb and he believes he can hit it on anyone, anywhere. But, as has become obvious, everyone now knows it's coming and they have game planned for it.
