  4. It's 2023. Any other sport would have punted these guys into orbit for this level of technical incompetence.

  5. 125 - Ayala - high motor, very good from neutral. Fully healthy, he's an AA(maybe top 3). 133 - Teske - would love to see him get on the podium, but thinking BR 141 - Woods - favorite to win the weight 149 - Rathjen/Voinovich - very interested to see who ends up the starter here. Leaning Voinovich with the better HS resume and full season as a college starter, but we shall see. Going with R16 for either for now. 157 - Siebrecht - not your typical "Iowa style" wrestler. Very funky, not scared of going upper body, comfortable scrambling. Injury really stalled out his season last year. AA potential, but will need to see him add some leg attacks consistantly before I can predict it. 165 - Kennedy - one of many very talented wrestlers at 165. Going with AA, how high depends on draw as he currently seems to struggle with lanky scramblers. 174 - Brands - stingey, stingey defense. Opened up a bit at NCAAs. Would love to see him keep that mentality all season long. AA in 3-6 range. 184 - Assad - If he could just find a way to finish his shots, he would be an AA. Unfortunately, hasn't happened yet. R16/BR until he figures out how to convert once he's in on the legs. 197 - Franklin/Glazier - Not sure who wins the starting spot. Franklin beat him at the Soldier Salute, so going with the freshman for now. NQ 285 - Cassioppi - Top 4

  6. Going into the 2015 tournament Edinboro was expected to score about 34 placement and advancement points based on their seeds. They actually scored 60.5 (75.5 with bonus added in). Their projected finish was 14th based on their seeds. Their actual finish was 3rd. And they did it with only 6 wrestlers. My detailed data only goes back to 2010. Was there a more overachieving team prior to 2010?

  7. WTF On BWI they are talking about the trials pre-sale prices (tix went on sale today) reporting tickets for the Olympic Trials at $250 (upper) - $500+ (lower), roughly double to triple prior prices. For lower section seats they quoted prices of $416 (section 101) and $512 (section 106). These were under $150 two years ago.

  8. I have a feeling Rojas was headed down to try to man 157 for a season prior to Chittum coming in, so he could go 165 after Carr left. Now with Swiderski going 157 after next year, does that mean Chittum to 165 or does Swiderski head all the way up to 165? Does that also mean Rojas needs to double down and shoot for 174/184? He wrestled 189 most of the last couple years of high school in Michigan's largest division for Detroit Catholic Central (perennial Top 50 squad and the same squad as Michigan's Amine, Mizzou's Edmond, and former Nebraska/Illinois Davenport, future Princeston wrestler Heethus all on the same team). He got away with it because Michigan doesn't have a lot of upperweight depth and he is strong as a mule. Neither of those hint towards a successful venture in to 184/197 imho. If anything it makes me wonder if him being the odd man out next season that we might see him in the portal.

  10. I don't think they have a good option for 197 at this point. Their best options at 174/184/197 might be the three(four if you include Rojas who was down at 165 to end the year last year). Iowa State has been known to run some guys through that gauntlet up there.

  11. FWIW I am going to try to change weights this year as well. Going to suck down to 184. I feel that’s a good number. My college weight was 142…+42 = 184.

  28. I do hope he does well. To be clear, though, I never predicted where he would land. I am, bluntly put, sick of seeing him get beat on in the B1G. This obviously means he is going 174lbs, right? Does he even beat out Otto? Any chance Hamiti goes up and Maylor down?

  31. I bitch and blame. I also try my best to not vote for the turds who are part of the system in place in NYS and Washington. I will give you a couple of more recent examples: Tom Reed was a staunch Republican, which served him well here in rural Upstate NY, representing NYS-23 (where my wife and I live) from 2010 to 2022, when he resigned over an admitted sexual assualt during an official function. His go-to move was to paint his opponents as "Extreme Ithaca Liberals", even if they were not from Ithaca. (You kind of have to know this area to understand.) https://www.ithaca.com/news/reed-campaign-revives-ithaca-liberal-tag-in-new-ad-campaign/article_4f27ce4a-1f2b-11e8-9ff2-3f1430282a8f.html He of course pounded the usual Conservative drums. BTW, he was Trump's relection campaign manager (just for this area?). He owned a medical debt collection agency, which he later "turned over to his wife" to get around conflict of interest problems. I'm sure that he bankrupted numerous of the people who still voted for him because he told them what they wanted to hear. He now is a lobbyist in Washington. Cool, huh? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Reed_(politician) His last two Democrat opponents were: Tracy Mitrano, a computer science professor at Cornell https://www.linkedin.com/in/mitranoassociates/ John Plumb, BS, MS Physics; PhD Aerospace Engineering https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_F._Plumb I think that if we voted more for people with a background like John Plumb and less for the same old medical debt collector that gets dangled in front of us time and again, we may have less of a back-biting $hitstorm in DC? I tried and it didn't work, so I'll just continue to bitch, blame, and vote for someone who isn't a part of the problem.

  32. I mean... I imagine it would actually be easier to make a list without, to be honest. That said, a list from the M.E. of wrestling (1999 to now) would be much shorter. Times are a changing. I was a black man wrestling in the B1G in the '80s. Guess how many of us there were then. It is more balanced demographically than it ever has been and it seems to be balancing out each year - more and more. Especially to the regards of women's wrestling too. That is not to say that racism or sexism or any sort of 'isms is more right then than it was now. Society was just more indifferent to it and enforcing of it then - which to me makes it worse, but that is a topic for a different day when we've had enough to drink. I believe there should be a happy medium to what many keyboard warriors are crying for as far as social justices and the extremely high levels of sissy that we have been seeing. Unfortunately we can't see any social injustice right now without every single Nancy, Joe, and Sam crying until they can't breath anymore. It's terrifying how much power cancel culture really can have on people and things. Like... I had an Aunt Jemima, an Uncle Ben, and a cat named Rastus. You didn't see me crying about racial appropriation. All I mean is we can be strong and appropriate. The level that thread sunk to was neither and I commend you, @VakAttack, for standing up for what was right as well as many others. I am of the mind that while Penn State and Cael may be wrestling now, Iowa and Oklahoma State are what wrestling are. We need all three to be good and great to grow the sport to it's peak potentials. These sort of charlie horses are a nuisance to that. I am sure like the Jason Leonard crap of the week prior that this will also get swept under the rug. That is probably better for the sport in the name of public image, I guess?

  34. Anecdotally, Worlds at Serbia in 2022 tried to sell tickets (and force hotel accommodations to get those tickets) at high prices ahead of the event to foreigners who wanted a guaranteed seat. On competition days, the stands were half full and you could get tickets out front for cheap.

  35. Mapping out nine days of April 2024 is super fun. April 13-16: Boston Marathon. Went over budget again this year, will probably make the same mistakes again next year. [April 15: tax deadline] April 17: "Work" from home but make everything the client's fault for not meeting deliverables while I am wholly offline during this stretch April 18-21: Olympic trials. Solo no family. Still budgeting $7k to do my part supporting James Franklin's coaching staff salaries. April 22: Divorce court. This will be the most expensive part of all. If I somehow can survive April 2024, then Los Angeles in July 2028 has me dead to rights.

  37. All political ideologies aside, there will be no 1980/1984/2021/2022 Mickey Mouse titles. Sport has always been an ideology of bringing cultures together and (naively) hopefully 2023 worlds at the various age groups can do the same at short-term and long-tail positions. See no further than Sadulaev/Snyder to view the positivity of sport to drive cultural inclusivity.
