  1. It wasn't about points on the backside. It was a discussion that started about 10 years ago to decide whether there would be a seperate dual tournament to decide the real team national championship. There were opposing coaches on both sides, A couple of Caels's main arguments were that ito change it it could negatively impact attendance at NCAA's and could affect smaller schools with less budget. "In 2012, when there was a strong push around the nation to have the team title determined by a tournament of duals rather than an accumulation individuals’ performance at the NCAA Championships, Sanderson publicly voiced his opposition multiple times." He provided 48 seperate points in opposition.

  2. This can't even be fun at this point. This is asinine. And I say that with all due respect for PSU, but IF Nagao and Truax end up at PSU...it's going to year after where it's basically PSU vs the field. 125-Howard-He's an AA if that shoulder is healthy...and there's no reason he shouldn't be after finally having it surgically fixed. This is a world Gold Medalist who's still has 4 years left. 133-NC contender. Top 3, if Vito and Fix take OLR, favorites. Don't see him beating Vito, but certainly see him giving Fix a run. 141-Bartlett, he's a distance 3 behind the top 2, but not so distant he can't close the cap. Would ANYONE be shocked to see him in the in the finals? 149-Van Ness-top 3 and looked like the light finally went on. Sasso, Gomez...the Van Ness when the light turned on could win it without anyone being the least bit surprised. -Hypothetically from here 157-Messenbrink-Immediate NC contender like Haines was this year...probably a stronger NC contender. 165-Haines is a NC contender with O'Toole and Carr, but...an underdog. 174-3X NC 184-(Truax?)3X AA 3 4th place finishes. Or Lucas Cochran takes over. It won't matter. 197-3X AA HWT-Kerkvliet That's 10 AAs, 8 with legitimate chances to win it and you have, in order 4, 3, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1, ?, 2 years of eligibility left. You've got Lillendal, Sealy, Ryder, Barr, the Mirasolas, Kasak, Mason Gibson, Erik Gibson(which stands to reason Melvin Miller, and then the Bassett brothers. They'll probably get Hopke. This is...absolutely ridiculous. The NCAAs will still be interested, but the team race will be decided by 149 of the quarters. PSU could legitimately put a team out, add their score up vs the highest finisher NOT Wrestling for PSU and potentially beat them. I enjoy getting to witness greatness. But this is TERRIBLE for our sport. And the last thing I expect is a PSU fan to apologize for building a program that everyone wants to go to, for building a RTC that has the funds to pay for World Champions to come and represent them. 2-3 years from now, Kerk, Starocci, Brooks are going to be gone and this team could be BETTER than they are now. Can we at least create a few co-ops? Like...Ohio State and Michigan(Get over it, it's for the greater good). Or Iowa and Iowa State? Missouri and Cornell? I really thought he'd be headed to Missou and JUUUST maybe if things broke right, they could...not push PSU, but give them a run. If he ends up at PSU....it'd actually be almost a joke.

  4. https://web.archive.org/web/20130126100829/https://www.caelsanderson.com/blog/no-to-national-duals/ Key points Less funded programs will lack talent to field a fully competitive team. Fans will not travel twice in a season for both a Team's Dual and an Individual Tournament. 50 programs will never make it to the team competition and have increased risk of being cut. The Individual Tournament sells out because of fan and media support for 77 programs. The Individual Tournament provides a greater sample size for proving who the best team is. National duals will not grow wrestling; non-competitive youth programs build wrestling. Teams are already reducing their scheduled events. There are other outside-the-box tactics to grow wrestling and get wrestling on TV.

  5. I think Facundo beats Mesenbrink. That doesn't mean Facundo wins the spot, though. He wrestles very close matches. He loses matches against worse wrestlers.

  6. The culture of over training has been passed on to the current staff. It's good to develop mental toughness but unsustainable for a full season.

  7. Not saying this is a a better explanation (or one aligned to particular sensibilitie), but I understand Latinx is primarily about 'gender identity inclusivity.' It may also be a more general rebuke of patriarchal society--especially historically in Latin or hispanic communities. It is akin to the movement towards gender neutral pronouns (they) and (to a lesser degree) the greater use of 'she' in U.S. government publications. In the Romantic languages, certain words have been designated 'masculine,' such as 'farmers.' These words are nominally preceded by 'el' or 'los' (a 'masculine' 'the,' singular or plural). These words nominally end with the letter 'O'/'os' (or another, what is termed, 'masculine' suffix). 'Farmers' has been designated 'masculine' as 'los granjeros.' Other words have been designated 'feminine,' like 'liberty.' These words are nominally preceded by 'la' or 'las' (a 'feminine' 'the,' singular or plural). These words nominally end in the letter 'A'/'as' or another 'feminine' suffix. 'Liberty' has been designated 'feminine' as 'la libertad.' Furthermore, when both female doctors ('doctoras') and male doctors ('doctoros') are present together, grammatical rules would have the collection referred to with the 'masculine' form, even if only one male doctor is present. The gender association to words may be seen as unnecessary, arbitrary, and detrimental to a segment of the latin community. It is seen as excluding individuals who do not conform to a society's gender identity norms. It may dissuade youngsters from pursuits contrary to the language's gender association when it differs from their own. Following the grammatic rule, 'latinos' has been used to refer to a collection of Latin individuals where one male of a Latin ethnicity is present. LatinX removes gender consideration from the word. In this way, it is similar to the use of 'Xmas,' by those who celebrate seasonal Black Fridays and gift-giving absent any religious affiliation. One view is that the Latin language perpetuates a gender-bias within the Latin community. This theoretically poses an unnecessary barrier to opportunity or general acceptance/inclusivity. Advocates of terms like LatinX and proponents of elimination of the historical near exclusive use of the 'he/his/him' pronouns in publications seek to eliminate perceived barriers to radical gender identity inclusivity. Proponents of Latinx who are most directly affected by exclusion certainly aren't the political majority. One person's blame is another person's credit. The LatinX community is looking for allies not enemies. Interesting, a sociologist from Southern California popularized 'Chicano' (distinctly 'masculine' form) in the late 1960s, co-opting a prior racial slur as part of a movement The intent was to identify a distinct Mexican- American experience of the time. The term LatinX can be viewed similarly.

  8. You forgot to mention Iowa. Every transfer conversation on the board has to include PSU, Iowa, OK State and ASU. It's a board rule. It's in section 5 of the handbook.

  11. I wanted to reach out to members of the wrestling community, as we recently have advertised men’s and women’s head wrestling coach positions at our institution. Wrestling began at our college roughly three years ago, but since its inception has had very little charted course in leadership or direction. I became AD in July 2022 and am working to establish relevancy moving forward. In addition to hiring new coaches, plans to join the NJCAA, to gain the program a more national profile, are in the works. We feel that our program has the potential to be one of the best at the two-year level. Were you or someone you know have interest in carrying the baton for this journey ahead, I would appreciate you viewing/applying for/forwarding the position description links below. The college, as well as our department, has made a significant commitment to making the program known abroad and charting a course for success. Position salary is a starting point. Budgets are very competitive; there are solid facilities in place, with financial resources available for major improvements; and financial packages for prospective student-athletes are tremendous. 12. I think freshman and sophomore year versions of Carter spent more time stalling. This year he really just pounded everyone outside of one close match with Nelson Brands.

  14. They can be if we're trying to use a way to compare records. How about he had a 110 match winning streak vs College competition? @jchapman Yeah...that's amazing. 3 years earlier, getting cut from Basketball and barely .500 Then gets his ass kicked by Yagla, then comes back, gets a split decision when he was the only one to score a TD. THAT close to being considered the GOAT. Yet another reason why you can't just rank Wrestlers by AA finishes. With respect to Stieber or even Yianni(and I have a LOT of respect for them)...I'll take Kemp over either on an all-time list. He was a monster. Forced Gable back into retirement at 18 years old!

  23. Starocci is the biggest staller for as dominant as he is, it's ridiculous. Just like Heil, when they changed the danger zone rules, if they change the top stalling rules this offseason he will take some losses next year.

  24. Nolf looked amazing at nationals his senior year after hurting his knee earlier in the season in a dual. The Brands/Brooks match that I am referring to was not freestyle, but was at Big 10, I think. Brooks was clearly hurt but made up a big deficit to win the match. Very impressive. The Downey loss was in freestyle the same year, I believe.

  29. I’m not disagreeing with your take , Lee Kemp is criminally underrated but to this day gene mills still rants about those Olympics and jimmy carter, seems like kemp made peace with it a long time ago, had the pleasure to meet Mills a few times , my dad and some of his teammates trained with him back in the day in NJ and I don’t think he ll ever get over missing out on that shot… Been following Kemp grandson for a few years , showed some flashes as a true Freshman for Fresno state but doesn’t seem like he’s improved much since then hopefully the light eventually turns on for him , listed as a senior but I believe he has 2 years left

  31. That is definitely not true. He did NOT make a good impression on Wisconsin recruits given how many times he'd been burned and he was giving out full rides for the likes of...Howe, Rutt, Medberry, Graff...but it was definitely not an all or nothing thing. I can see where it came from. He did have quite a few Wrestlers who got full rides. Jesse Thielke, Destin McCauley...a couple other prospects in that #1 ranked class were offered full rides, but...plenty were offered partials.

  32. Well, a women in communications strategies or something named Grace Flores-Hughes claims to have come up with the term. Though the reason reasoning; There's actually a very real history behind it...they lobbied to get "Hispanics" onto the census for years(decades). And then it was Latino. And people were happy. It was a problem that needed to be solved.

  33. Latinx. The day I first read about it; all I could think of is that is it "incredibly stupid." I feel the same way today. Maybe there is a better explanation of what the point of the term is - but I have yet to see it. Don't blame the "white left" - you don't know that and provides nothing positive here. If you can make a sincere argument, do so. Otherwise, your comments only serve to divide us more.

  40. Gable will do well if he lets his ego loose. Be more like Macho Man, Ric Flair, or hate on others like Iron Sheik. Maybe have persona like Kurt Angle as a heel with cockiness and outstanding in-ring skill. Do his signature flip and talk trash on the inferior skill of his opponents. The only way Gable should lose in pro wrestling is when he is hit by a chair or a one against many scrap. Take some acting and improve classes for a year and he'd do well.

  41. Agreed, wouldn't be shocked to see Ferrari surpass Siebrecht at 157 if Chittum gets down to 149. If not, maybe should redshirt. People are emphasizing that Chittum went up a weightclass in a recent tournament, but maybe he just doesn't want to cut weight or go on a strict diet for 7 months? I think its tbd but some people are aggressively claiming he goes 157 next year

  42. I'm not sure what part you are disagreeing with. He dislikes both past and present Badger HCs, for different reasons, hence projecting a negative view towards the program in general that his athletes pick up on.

  43. I disagree. He did not like Barry Davis because Barry did not believe in Askren's ability to compete at the next level. I think that he doesn't like Bono because he shady and does not have the athletes best interest in mind a lot of the time. Say what you want about Askren but he puts a huge emphasis on believing in kids and making they truly enjoy competing.
