  1. I mowed lawns to earn money as a kid, probably helped me with pushing stuff... maybe pushing the pace in a match as well. If the push out rule was around when I was wrestling, the lawn mowing definitely would have been to my advantage. I also played Atari as a kid... the action in teh video games was pretty slow compared to today. I attribute my slowness to that. I feel cheated that the games I grew up on did not prepare me for wrestling as it did RBY.

  4. Dance backward for 3 min. Jesse takes down - ride the ankle for 2 min. RBY takes down - escapes in 20s, dance backward for 2:40. You are welcome. Ohh ... if he wants he could throw a takedown in there but its not necessary. I'm really gonna miss the cement plant.

  5. none of them are actually interested in "solving" problems... there is entirely too much at stake for them to lose if they even attempt a viable solution... the goal is to create division among the masses and they are extremely good at that...

  8. It's been awhile since the Beavers have beat ASU and last year the tourney was decided by a headgear celebration. Should be a good match-up. ASU has had several different lineups the last few duals. Ive got Oregon State winning a close one and ending the drought. 125 - Kaylor vs Courtney/Figs 133 - Shaner vs McGee 141 - Belton vs Vasquez - Interesting match up since Belton transferred out of ASU 149 - Gurr vs Parco 157 - Crosby vs Wilner 165 - Olguin vs Negron 174 - Olmos vs Valencia 184 - Munoz vs Montalvo 197 - Harvey vs Fagan/? HWT - Dixon vs Schultz

  9. This thread should be locked. Thought provoking, relevant, well written, substantive original post followed by topical, entertaining, and good faith back and forth. WTF?

  10. You beat me by seconds. Though, it wasn't Barry who said that, that WAS the belief at the time. It was also the belief by a LOT of people at the time. He was not a great athlete. He wasn't explosive. He made himself great. That and he's got incredible grip strength and flexibility in his shoulders. Watch Jake Herbert trying to get Askren off his leg. He could NOT do it.

  11. First of all, Barry was a VERY disorganized recruiter. He was not good in person. There's an elite recruit...Davis was supposed to be at his house at 7PM. 9PM he calls and says he's "running late, is it ok if they still come." Sure, no problem. 11:30 on a School Night they come. And while Iowa was offering him 40%...Barry had never seen him Wrestle and only met with him because he'd heard he was good. So Barry didn't think there was much talent in Wisconsin(he was not wrong, particularly 20 years ago, but he kinda ignored what talent there was there). --This and then just Wisconsin's general Malaise is why Barry wasn't loved as the HC. I mean...people who knew the guy really liked him, but they didn't want him running the program. That said, he has Askren up for a visit, Askren was talking shit to the guys on the team about how he could...well, do what he ended up doing. They didn't like him, relayed that back to Barry. SOMEONE said they didn't believe Askren would have a lot of success in College...and at the time, very few people thought he would, and anyone who says they knew he'd go 2,2,1,1 and be so dominant or anything CLOSE to that...they are less trustworthy than George Santos. So they didn't go after Askren hard. Then Bono it was a couple things...mostly due to Covid and McDonough not being retained, Rotundo's scholarship money. About a week before he signed, they changed the offer. It was more backloaded. If he was on the team 5 years, it'd get progressively bigger. That wasn't the original deal, but they had to make room for another Wrestler. Askren said this was dishonest and immoral. They told the family....again, a week in advance, it wasn't an issue, but not it is. So how big of a deal you think that is, that's up to you. ALL of the rest of it is so petty and ridiculous that it's not worth getting into here. A big factor was one side wanting to get their club into the Wrestling room with the RTC guys and the other side having the University limiting how many people could be in a place at one time. Two big Egos. One Ego thinks he should have gotten the job as the HC at Wisconsin. The other did.

Barton probably has the lowest career winning percentage of an NCAA champ. Van Arsdale has the most career losses tied with Walter and Trost, but Van Arsdale had two ties as well setting himself apart. For losses in a single title winning season the most is 9 with Branch, Jaggers, and Walter tied. Branch easily has the lowest winning % for a single season.

  15. Yes, Nolf is being more strategic about this shots and improving his positioning and defense. That's necessary against top guys whom he can't just overwhelm with offense

  16. Back to the important stuff... Not a terrible bracket for Dom. Dom gets Sam Stewart CAN first match. She's beaten her before, but it was close. Stewart is tough and wily, but has moments of breakdowns. Second match MATNAZAROVA AZB who hasn't placed at a senior level tournament. Should be an easier match. Quarters will likely be PROFATILOVA FRA (UKR) who also hasn't placed at a senior level tournament. Another winnable match. Semis is going to be Fujinami JPN. Bring the popcorn, folks. Top quarter bracket has Godinez CAN, Guzman ECU, KRAWCZYK POL, so no walk for Fujinami. Godinez, in particular, is a physical wrestler. Third quarter bracket is likely to be BATKHUYAG MGL, world silver. Fourth quarter bracket is likely to be BAT OCHIR MGL, with LEORDA MDA giving her some work. Bottom half bracket should be BAT OCHIR making the finals. Time to see if all that training has paid off.

  23. A couple reasons. The username was created moments before the first comment, implying it was created for this topic. And the user talked knowledgably about the history of the forum, implying they had been around to witness the history firsthand. I grant there are other conclusions you can draw from the above, but I concluded the user read the thread, didn't like what they read, and created a new username to say as much. The use of mascot/fan for SDSU was a nice touch too.

  24. You know what's annoying? Wanting to watch Henderson/ Tumur Ochier on my 75" and Pantaleo on my laptop. But Flo says I can't have an active account on two devices simultaneously. It's a wrestling product and wrestling tournaments happen on multiple mats Make it make sense like I'm a 5 year old.

  26. Very good documentary. I especially liked the part about his coaches finding out Cael was on a visit recruiting Brandon Courtney, and his grandfather and coaches taking RBY to that practice and him subsequently putting it on Courtney. Apparently Penn State wasn’t recruiting him prior to that. Amazing how things work out.

  39. ... let's be clear, overhook below the upper arm and instead on the elbow against the joint. and then twisting hips for leverage to swing in and snap it. Ouch, damage. Mspart then smacks the sh** out of him first - then calls it illegal and DQ's him. And then gives him a swift kick in the as* for good measure. Good work by the ref. That's the name of that tune. I feel much better.

  40. Mendez is a future stud in the making with big wins this year over foley, Byrd, and Ragusin…. But I think he’s over matched with RBY, the future is bright for him

  43. I think it could be a decent match-up for a couple of reasons. 1. Mendez has athleticism that is probably worse but close to RBY 2. Mendez opens up more than RBY in terms of attempting to create offense 3. First time facing each other. Mendez will have been preparing for this match all year. RBY probably never even considered the existence of Mendez until the match was approaching. 4. Dual is in Columbus where they may receive some small benefit of the doubt from the ref if RBY tries for any stalling tactics and fans get wild. 5. Mendez has a very wide variety of offensive attacks and doesn't need to operate from one position or cheese a particular set of moves. He is beatable in a match by any guy but he is not solvable like DeSanto. Obviously RBY is the favorite but I enoyed making this prediction
