  1. Again UWW is responsible for the entirety of the World Cup production. All we (Flo) can do is communicate any production issues to the team here at the venue. We've let them know about all the issues - blackouts during cuts, switching to Mat A, weird overlay, etc. And we agree with you, not great.

  7. IDK: think what some are pointing out is that WI has made an official statement and if official then thus the university is all saying the same thing. Apparently they have not changed their position. On the other side we hear reports of what the dad said, the coach's wife said, maybe the coach said but nothing official and all those rumored statement come from a position of bias.

  8. A couple of things that would seem to be evident to me: Burwick's eligibility this year does not rest with the UW signing some paper - this is a matter solely in the hands of the NCAA regardless of what the Badgers want or don't want (the kid is not enrolled at the UW, he is no longer on scholarship at the UW - assuming he was at one point, etc.). So, people saying that the UW needs to sign something before Burwick is free is most likely erroneous - this is obviously an NCAA issue. The fact that some attribute this statement to Manning makes me 1) doubt those posters' familiarity with the situation and/or 2) think that Manning might be a pumpkin - he should know better than to make such a simplistic statement...if he ever did. Would still love to see the explicit quote from Manning on the matter rather than secondhand references. That said, I don't expect posters to spend all sorts of crazy time trying to dig out some statement that may never have been documented to begin with, even if Manning might have indeed said it. I cannot believe Bono really cares whether Burwick is in Nebraska's line up at any time this year; the PR damage associated with trying to block Burwick's release is far greater than any negatives that would be associated with Burwick possibly beating Lamont at some point during the season. I can't believe fear of a Burwick win is driving any of this. When the UW athletic department took the opportunity to publicly address the matter it provided a clumsy statement that appeared as if the UW lawyers drew it up to provide as little substantive details as possible - damned by simple omissions that could have put the whole thing to rest. Last, I sure hope Burwick gets his chance to wrestle this year - the sooner the better...and I will eagerly be awaiting the UW-UN dual

  10. Musukaev saw the Dan Gable statue in IC and applied cold spray before the plane landed. HELL YEAH!!!! to Ghasempour!!! If that doesn’t embody the spirit of wrestling then what does? And Snyder is a selfless warrior that would relish the opportunity no matter the outcome. Yaaasssssssss

  12. Reading the Burwick thread got me thinking. With slightly fewer scholarships than starters (9.9 vs 10) and the ability to hand out partial scholarships in wrestling, does anyone know how frequently a wrestler is on a full ride? I know some schools do not even use their 9.9, and I know some wrestlers who were top 10 pound for pound that did not get a full ride (though perhaps it was available elsewhere) so I am assuming it is not very common.

  18. But those multiple reports all seem to trace back to one source - Manning (maybe, if second hand information is to be believed - still haven't seen it in the news). And too, one thing that you have failed to address is any possible rationale as to why the UW program would be willing to take such a big PR hit on this situation where, by most all accounts, the UW made an upgrade. Why in the world would the UW make a stink of it when there is not really much of anything to be gained? So, while I can understand how you think some pieces line up to support your position, there are some big gaps in the potential motivation for UW to do anything other than to say "Good luck, Kyle!"

  20. Funny how Burwick, his dad, Nebraska and wrestling media are all saying the same thing, but Wisconsin has been silent other than some vague comment. Yet, people still want to defend Wisconsin with lots of "if's" and "Maybe's".

  21. He had already been considering transferring from Wisconsin after the NCAA.... He was notified May 23rd of the LaMont transfer. He went in the portal that week. He met with the coaches two weeks later. He was NOT coming back - It was very clear - They were not going to keep a guy on scholarship who went in the portal and then met with them to tell them he is not going back. As a side note, coaches can still "not" release a wrestler to another school - it happened just last year to a prominent transfer and he sat the first semester.

  22. As I understand, the May 1st date was for a 1st school transfer providing immediate eligibility WITHOUT a release from your previous school. After May 1, an athlete needs a release or an appeal to be approved from the NCAA to avoid a redshirt. I'm guessing, but have no proof that W never gave him a release. People mentioned scholarships. I don't know how those enter into things but IIRC, an athlete not on scholarship doesn't need a release. Since teams get 9.9 scholarships, effectively one per weight I'd assume W had to give Lamont a full ride to get him to sign, unless they get NIL money instead. Kyle could not have had much scholarship $ assigned to him for the upcoming season.

  23. Great for her getting into wrestling. It will have a lot of benefits, some you may not realize now. What do you do with your hands? Sit on them! I'll give you a little something else to think about... Both of my daughters grew up long before girls wrestling became popular, but I always wrestled and played with them from the time they were tykes until they went away to college. Looking back, I've always been amazed that one of them or my son or me didn't fall wrong and break something. The older daughter played a lot of softball and the younger one was a distance swimmer. Both also took a few years of taekwondo. I'm very proud that I raised them to be mentally and physically strong. I worried a lot less when they went to college that they could get attacked and physically overpowered by a young man. The young man would have no idea what he was in for. Once they got a little older, I taught them that you don't play fair in those situations, nothing is off limits. The downside of this was that a few times they hurt me real bad. I still remember when the older one was maybe 2 or 3 years old, she wound up and out of the blue walloped me in the belly in a store or somewhere with a lot of other people. Only problem is she was about a foot low. Everybody but me thought it was hilarious. One time when the younger daughter was about 15 we were riding in an elevator somewhere and I started to pick on her pretending to box. She just ignored me so I relaxed and she punched me on that bone in your upper arm where all the muscles come together. I was actually black and blue for over a month. I didn't do that again.

  28. I'm going to add a little bit of "old guy" advice to this. Don't expose yourself as much. Simplify your life. Don't use a card or your phone to buy a bag of potato chips. I go to the bank every so often and they have this machine that dispenses this green stuff that works great (so far) for buying stuff in person. On line...another story.

  29. The Wisconsin statement doesn’t say anything about signing the release/waiver or whatever. As @npope said, it appears to be carefully worded with just vague statements that they’ve “supported” him and “worked with” Nebraska. It seems the decision technically is in the hands of the NCAA, but that they could influence/possibly confirm the decision by signing the release/waiver

  33. When did he and the university officially say that? We do seem to have an official dated statement from Wisconsin altough I'm skeptical of anything that comes via Twitter. Did he say "bs" or use the full 4 letter words?

  34. In other news, my house's gymnast joined the high school wrestling club, and I don't know what to do with my hands. She could have the best grip strength of many girls her age, but this grasshopper knows little of technique and conditioning. A handful of practices and she was thrown to the varsity wolves in a tournament. The first match was nerve-wracking but her smile is fantastic! She doesn't know the scoring system but hasn't given up back points. She is 3-3 with 3 pins. What pinning move do you ask? The ol' half---

  41. My personal opinion opinion and theorynis that Moore went 97 KG rather than 92 KG because he thought his chances against Snyder we better than Cox - perhaps due to familiarity? I actually agree. Cox us a worse matchup for him than Snyder. I believe Zillmer has eluded to this being a reason to not cut to 97 KG, as he cannot make 92 KG anymore. Meaning he thought stylistically that he matched up better with the field (sans Steveson) than he did with Snyder. At the end of the day both Cox and Snyder are True Alphas. Nobody else we have that typically go 92 KG or 97 KG are. That means other guys who think they are will abandon 86 KG and 97 KG - in which both weight classes have at least one True Alpha, and give it a proper go at 92 KG. The reward of a BYE to the semifinals off the Olympic weight of your choosing, providing you medal at 2023 Worlds, is too great a benefit to pass up. Also, this bracket is going to be insane to seed and very draw dependant for who we see in the finals. Especially if Brooks, Hidlay, and Moore are all in it. I could see a Moore > Brooks > Hidlay > Moore situation playing out (I know Moore beat Hidlay, but I wasn't comfortable at all that entire match). Add in IF Valencia decides he wants that bye? He is right there, very close to that True Alpha status and I don't think anyone aside for JB, Taylor, Cox, or Snyder are beating him domestically in that 86-97 KG range. Hidlay matches up well, but it's hard to put a whole match together against Valencia and hd has yet to do that.

  43. And Mr. Pat Minnow has claimed that Glory will no longer be at 125 only to follow that up two days later to say that he will be at 125. So either way, he is right! He's got the scoop!

  44. 92 KG is going to be a honeypot of really good guys who might medal or might be one and done at worlds - draw dependant, and none will win Gold. Macchiavello, Moore, Jackson, Hidlay, Downey, Dean, Brooks, Martin, etc.

  46. i am pleasantly surprised... it is rare to read a greco post that is knowledgeable, nuanced, and not total rubbish... **tip of the cap** the ivanov situation is interesting... i was super hopeful when he took that job... then some things happened that i was not impressed by even a little... i have no knowledge whether this was his decision or USAW's decision, but, it could have been either just as easily... he was not making friends within the program... the world team camps last summer were awful... lots of coaches alienated with little to no tact... the actual training was suspect at best... large number of athletes not impressed and not looking forward to repeating that training philosophy... and most importantly, the results were the exact same... i was willing to look past all that having had good experiences with ivanov personally and knowing how little USAW actually cares about greco... gotta shake things up... cause some waves... and if people are not happy then that is what was needed in the program... clearly, the hiring process for the OTC coach was the tipping point... i was not even a little impressed with how that has been handled... how some clearly qualified candidates were not even granted an interview... it was not encouraging in the least little bit... and some athletes were told not they were not allowed to train with particular coaches... i heard grumblings about the OTC being used as a "commercial" for side businesses'... blah, blah, blah... point being the fit was not great and a large number of the greco community were not unhappy with last weeks news... i would encourage everyone to read timmy hands full thoughts on the twitter verse... they could have come from me word for word... all the issues in the program still remain, but, as the eternal grumpy optimist i see things happening that are going to impact the program positively coming up... we have a coach back on the scene that is proven, highly motivated, and showing the best technique in the country and there is not even a close second... he has some outside financial support and they are doing some things that no one else is doing at the moment... and... as important right now, rulon is coming back for a very specific reason... he could very easily turn some heads at the open... https://www.instagram.com/p/Clh0ZbisJ6f/
