  1. Someone else already made a thread about this. Now you both look dumb for making two threads about the same thing.

  2. Like many of you, I was very concerned when our previous Forum decided to close its doors. Now that we've been in our new home (asylum?) for a little while, I have found myself very happy. I think all my previous amigos are here and maybe some new ones. Other than one speed bump in the beginning, the transition for me has been smooth and that's quite an accomplishment. (Thanks @GreatWhiteNorth for getting me over that.) We have everything we had before, plus the Club Forums, plus a place to argue politics, plus some other cool things. What's to not like? I'd like to thank whoever made it happen, I believe @Husker_Du and @BobDole. Please feel free to correct me or add to the list. Even though I've been around these parts for a while, I still don't know who's who. Anyway, Thanks! BP

  5. Actually there were already 2 threads if you count the what’s PSU’s secret sauce thread, with one of the original 2 being from Cinnabons. This is Cinnabon’s 2nd thread on the subject and 3rd in total, I think there’s been adequate discussion of it here. I was surprised at the lack of discussion on Cornell’s forum but I’d bet some of them think it was due to academics and not a flip. Fair amount of discussion on BWI, who seem to think this is the start of the pipeline to McCort including Bo Bassett and Jax Forrest. But, the Gibson names may have been bigger if McCort wasn’t banned from PIAA states

  7. Claiming a freshman can beat everyone but Yianni generates discussion, and most of it will be disagreement. Not that hard to understand. Feel free to root for you guys - get excited for your guys, but just know that pre-mature hailing of a king does not go well on this board and nor should it. If SVN proves the statement correct, expect this thread to be resurrected from the other side.

  9. Trump's advocacy for wide-scale covid restrictions should eliminate him from consideration by any thinking, freedom-loving American. Many of the economic and societal problems we face today and in the future are/will be due to these destructive policies and blame can be placed at his feet. A total clown. Newsom is a virtue-signaling, platitude-spewing empty suit. Yes, California has been an economic engine but to credit Newsom is more than generous. California's tech and biotech are heavily reliant upon historically low interest rates. California's agriculture is vulnerable to drought which will become increasingly problematic. The Federal Reserve policies have had far more to do with the boom in tech/biotech than any policy Newsom could enact. The question is what is going to happen if interest rates remain high or continue to increase? Chances are there will be a lot fewer companies making phone apps that make pancakes and rub your balls. Will Newsom take credit for the coming downturn? Unfortunately, these are the politicians we deserve but aren't the ones we need.

  12. 125 - 118 = 7 They added 7 lbs to the old weight classes when went to 1 hr weigh ins, this was triggered by the fatalities.

  14. Pretty sure Guerrero was 133 his last year. When went to 1 hour weigh ins 126 became 133. 126=133, Guerrero was a career 133 not 125.

  16. I hear ya. I should have stated, "applying for a medical" I figured that was known. He was injured at the MSU Open and hasn't wrestled since. I don't believe the wrestle off has anything to do with it. D'Emilio has two matches. Decatur has two matches.

  17. No it isn't. Have you heard of Cassar, Anthony? He was granted two (2) seasons after his junior year of eligibility (which ended up being his frosh year of eligibility.

  18. I am in your collective. 3x champ, world silver, smart, resourceful wrestler. Clear favorite. I'd say 75% is a little optimistic against the field given that the field is showing teeth. I don't think it starts with a 7. The match was not a disaster for Yianni. Hard fought first period. Made a mistake allowing Gomez to go upper body, cost him 4, and put him in position of taking bad shots. It's early in the year, he's probably not fully in folkstyle mode, maybe he was up late working on a paper, etc. Also we know if Gomez is at his best and you're not 100% ready he can beat anyone. The score doesn't worry that much, but I would say Gomez looked a lot bigger and stronger, definitely a fuller 149 than Yianni. And let's say they meet in NCAA final with many hours after weigh in before Saturday night match - big size delta. Still see Yianni as strong favorite but this does take a coronation and give it a lot more suspense.

  23. Just admit you're depressed PSU has their next stud at 149. It's ok. If it makes you feel any better Levi Haines might be our next Jimmy Guillibon.

  24. And the John Smith who went 2,1,1 was not 125. Its jerseywrestling, can't expect them to know wrestling history. I mean would any on this here forum go to Dan for advice?

  25. If you haven't go listen to his Wrestling Changed My Life podcast, it is a great listen. I was listening to it on a roadtrip and my wife who was casually hearing what was said perked up and even asked who he was after some of the things he said.

  26. One of the pains in the sport - he wrestled attached. I wish I could find the actual "rule" (if there is one) about what matches count and don't, because we are so bass ackwards in how we treat the results sometimes. He lost three matches in Vegas, so he's got those losses on his record, I don't care what tOSU says about it. They aren't the arbiter of official results.
    1 point
  27. The point is your spiraling wildly off of results against nobody whose a relevant NCAA All-American wrestler. The best wrestler he's faced is Johnny Lovett, who he beat 5-3. Lovett's best result is, I believe, 2-2 at the NCAA tournament. So when you view Van Ness' results (and your statement was made well before even the Lovett match) of beating the crap out of non-D1 All American types and proclaim things like "I'll take him over anybody buy Yianni". Then, when it's followed by decreasing levels of dominance once the competition steps up slightly (because, again, Lovett is a tough solid wrestler, but hasn't come close to AAing as of yet, and Van Ness just beat him 5-3) and you stick with it with lines like "I can see him losing to a Gomez or Sasso in their first meeting" as if the only way those two very high level wrestlers can beat Van Ness is because it's his first time getting a look at him, it's objectively hilarious. Nobody is saying Van Ness can't AA or improve, even dramatically, by the end of the season. Not being a national title threat at the beginning of your freshman year is not an insult. The Van Ness we've seen so far is a solid underdog against Yianni, Gomez, Sasso, etc.

  28. Here’s the thing. Not sure how this has spiraled. I like Van Ness. I don’t think he’s winning title this year but I do see him as AA. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him in final. I don’t see him beating Yianni. I can see him losing to a Gomez or Sasso in first meetings because they have funky styles that for the first time gives them advantage (Gomez with the upper body stuff and Sasso with the funk). I could also see him dropping a match here or there because he is offensive and can get sloppy. All that being said. My predication is AA this year and a multiple time champ for career.

  33. I visited Tulsa this summer for a couple days and did touristey things. Pinned (hehe) a bunch of things to a Google Map after talking to some locals for recommendations. Here it is in case anybody wants to take a look: https://goo.gl/maps/L9RYbcnQEvrBuWdy7 My favorite spots were The Gathering Place (a world class park that you could spend an entire day in) and walking around Downtown. There's a lot of cool architecture downtown and it's a fun walk after 5 PM when the offices empty out. Good restaurants, bars, music venues. Velvet Taco was my favorite place to eat, went there twice, they have a bunch of fun fusion tacos. The Philbrook Museum and Woodward Park have really nice gardens that you can walk around w/o paying admission and are both next to each other and close to The Gathering Place. The Philbrook was closed when I was there, but its supposed to be quite an attraction. There's a couple hip neighborhoods if you want to cruise, Brookside and Cherry St. If the weather is crap you can go down to the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks which is decently fun. Apart from those highlights feel free to take a look at my map above! Hope this helps anybody!

  35. Contacting me via my personal FB profile (and not one of the mediums I have readily available on the web for contact - e-mail, Twitter, IG or the Mat Talk FB page) and then inquiring about being banned on the board while I'm actively working the World Championships is enough for me to never want to interact with him again. I make the mistake of trying to educate when I see a confused question on the board. But then the egg is on my face because I didn't realize it was another alias and when I present facts, my factual evidence is questioned with "if true" - sorry, not sorry he's not here.

  39. Nah, man. Iowa is a huge underdog this year without something really weird happening, thus has no effect on my enjoyment of the season, lol. I'm just not judging Van Ness off this match. And for the record, if you scratch my avi, it smells like cheap liqueur. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
