Bennett Berge to OK State is official.

So this allows Merrill to RS. A slight downgrade opposed to Merrill starting next season but certainly an AA threat.

Wasn't Merrill a RS Freshman this year? I thought I read that Berge is probably going 184 while Ryder medical redshirts to get his shoulder right

That's how I understand it.

Merrill redshirted in '24-25.

My bad! So if BB goes 184, is it a guarantee Ryder is getting a medical?

I don't think they could guarantee that proactively, but that's likely the plan.

Then you have a battle with Ryder and White in '27-28.

You guys are getting way off topic.  Right now we're talking about how 6th is better than 3rd and 2nd is worse than 4th, etc.

Maybe White wants to recommit to Minnesota and train with Max!

No inside info or anything it I think Ryder will move down to 174 after he recovers.

This is the "dirt" portal thread.  There is also a "clean" portal thread for those so inclined. 😀

I'm guessing there's a battle this year between White and Berge. I doubt Berge was promised anything. But having a chance to wrestle for Oklahoma State and your competition for a starting spot being a true freshman is probably worth the risk of not starting.

Ryder has the same type of injury and needs the same surgery that Robbie Howard had. Quite possibly the worst injury for a high level wrestler no guarantee he’s ever same after it unfortunately

Tough luck. Robbie Howard a top 5 recruit, never panned out. Not sure he even finished his career at PSU?

Sorry, sorry. Uhhhh 8th is clearly the best place to get at NCAAs- it's high enough to be considered a good year, but poor enough that you still have room to improve to motivate the guys. 8th place is way better than getting 6th or something like that

Round of 12  or not even wrestling the tournament is better in iowa fans eyes

He is long and lean.  The perfect body style to fill out to 184, but he hasn't (yet).  I honestly think Minto will have an easier time filling out to 184 than Norman.

I agree but Minto would go from the favorite at 174 to probably 5th at best to start at 184 being McEnelly, Welsh, Sinclair and Ferrari

He stayed on the team his whole time at Penn state even after he medically retired. His could never get the shoulder right again and lost his confidence and what made him so dynamic in the process

Eiermann, the guy you want to make message board fodder, had a great career at Missouri and Iowa.  In his final season he suffered a knee injury in a dual against Nebraska (meniscus  and ACL tear).  He wore a gigantic brace the rest of the season and tried to salvage the season.   He was an injury forfeit in his final NCAA match.  Eierman expressed gratitude for his career, stating he "gave it everything I had until my knee couldn't take it anymore".

I don't get the Norman at 184 thing either unless he has spent the year filling out.  Agree, Minto is probably better at 184 than Norman but Minto probably scores more points at 174 than combination of Norman at 174/Minto 184 considering the depth at 184.

Minto will do well at either, but his body is built for 174. His core is too lean.
