  1. I'm guessing there's a battle this year between White and Berge. I doubt Berge was promised anything. But having a chance to wrestle for Oklahoma State and your competition for a starting spot being a true freshman is probably worth the risk of not starting.
  2. I think Jax and Sergio both repeat, whether they're at 133 and 141 or 141 and 149.
  3. Cody Merrill would like a word.
  4. I don't understand what the point of this argument is? If anyone is saying PSU or OSU are just getting top guys because of money, they're idiots. PSU obviously has a 15ish year history now of dominance. And there's no doubt young guys want to wrestle for DT and now see what that can do with 3 true freshmen champs. Arguing about who has more money to give out just seems like a waste of time. Both are very well funded. Both get wrestlers for lots of reasons other than money.
  5. I'm not sure why it's blasphemous to talk about hypotheticals. But to answer the question, no. I think Jax and Barr each get more first place votes, but it's probably still like 46 first place votes for Mesenbrink, 14 for Jax and 11 for Barr at best for the others. If Mesenbrink had lost a close one and Jax had MD'd Davino, I think it gets a lot more interesting.
  6. The issue is that I don't see anyone at 165 that is even coming for him. There's not really anyone at 157 that I can see coming up and challenging him and there aren't many young guys that were very scary this year. I don't think he'll lose, but if he does, I think it's to Dee Lockett in a weird match that Mitch probably wins 80% of the time. I know Dee flamed out at the end of the year, but he's got a lot of talent. I could also see Dee losing 4 matches by new year, so who knows. Maybe Ruiz would have the tiniest of chances too.
  7. PSU and OSU both had 8 AA wrestlers this year. PSU had 4 champs compared to OSU's 3, and one of Penn State's was a Senior. As OSU's best guys get more experience, they'll score more bonus points. Do I think they'll win in 2027? No. But if they're going to pass PSU, I think it's just as likely to happen in the next year or 2 as it is 4 or 5 years out.
  8. It's crazy to me when people act like someone "would not win a rematch" when they won the first time. Like obviously there was some controversy, but it was at the end of OT. If it was so clear PJ was better, it wouldn't have come down to a controversial call. There's no reason Robideau couldn't win again.
  9. I'm assuming you know... But it went worse for Hardy than their first dual.
  10. That makes sense. I know people were frustrated with Barr's vote total and think it invalidated the fan vote, but I don't really have a problem here. You're voting for who you think is best. Not voting for 1-5 then arranging by points like an NVA MVP ballot. I think the reasons to put Jax or Sergio 1st are different than the reasons to put Barr first. And I said in my previous post, the reasons for Barr and MM are very similar and MM comes out on top. MM is way out in front, which is where he should be, imo.
  11. Mendez was also just too good to lose to Vega the first time, but here we are. Still don't think Mendez finds a way to get a takedown. So he'd have to win in TBs
  12. Of course. But how much easier is it if the other 69 matches were against random unranked guys? Do you think Jax and Sergio would be more likely to lose a match if facing two top 5 wrestlers or 69 unranked wrestlers?
  13. I was surprised to see that few for Barr. But I guess anyone who's inclined to vote for Barr is probably going to vote for Mesenbrink as they're both at PSU and Mesenbrink edges him out in most stats + dominated in the finals. Also, those percentages have to be off. How can MM have 2.2x the votes but 5.1x the percentage of votes. They should be equal multiples.
  14. To be fair, I'd lose all motivation too if I won a championship and a year later I pretty clearly wasn't in the top 4 of my weight class.
  15. Oops. AA isn't something that has some arbitrary meaning.... I'm dumb.
  16. I don't think the lower match count changes much. Jax or Vega could wrestle 10 more times each season, but I don't see a real threat of losing to anyone but the top few guys. Adding a bunch of dates against random unranked guys doesn't change much other than adding a bunch of wins to their total.
  17. I created an account just because this is hilarious. 6th and 8th placed guys both have 3 losses. 7th place only has 2. So people who come in 7th are AAs but people who come in 6th aren't? Also, AA is something that has some arbitrary meaning people can different opinions on. It's literally defined as wrestlers who place in spots 1-8. If you want to say "Oklahoma State will only have 5 guys that finish in the top 4 next year", then that's fine. But it's very different than saying "Oklahoma State will only have 5 AAs."
