Wrestling Athlete Thomas Gilman Accepts Sanction For Whereabouts Rule Violation

Colorado Springs, Colo. (May 23, 2025) – USADA announced today that Thomas Gilman, of Port Matilda, Pa., an athlete in the sport of wrestling, has accepted an 18-month sanction for committing three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.

At the time of the Whereabouts Failures, Gilman, 30, was included in the USADA Registered Testing Pool (RTP), which consists of a select group of elite athletes subject to certain Whereabouts requirements in order to be located for out-of-competition testing. Within a 12-month period, Gilman accrued three Whereabouts Failures: the first on April 28, 2024, the second on August 12, 2024, and the third on September 23, 2024.

The accumulation of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period constitutes a rule violation under the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee National Anti-Doping Policy, and the United World Wrestling Anti-Doping Rules, all of which have adopted the World Anti-Doping Code. The period of ineligibility for Whereabouts rule violations ranges from one year to two years depending on the athlete’s degree of fault. In this case, USADA determined that an 18-month period of ineligibility was appropriate given the circumstances of the case.

Gilman’s 18-month period of ineligibility began on May 16, 2025, the date he accepted the sanction. In addition, Gilman has been disqualified from all competitive results achieved on and subsequent to September 23, 2024, including forfeiture of any medals, points, and prizes.

Accurate Whereabouts information is crucial for effective out-of-competition testing, which helps deter and detect doping by enabling no-notice sample collection. This is especially important because some prohibited substances have limited detection windows. In an effort to aid athletes, as well as support team members such as parents and coaches, in understanding the rules applicable to them, USADA provides comprehensive instruction on its website on the testing process and prohibited substances, how to file and update athlete Whereabouts, how to obtain permission to use a necessary medication, and the risks and dangers of taking supplements, as well as performance enhancing and recreational drugs.

In addition, USADA manages a drug reference hotline, Global Drug Reference Online (www.GlobalDRO.com), conducts educational sessions with National Governing Bodies and their athletes, and distributes a multitude of educational materials, such as an easy-reference wallet card with examples of prohibited and permitted substances, a supplement guide, a nutrition guide, an clean sport handbook, and periodic alerts and advisories.

USADA makes available a number of ways to report the abuse of performance-enhancing drugs in sport in an effort to protect clean athletes and promote clean competition. Any tip can be reported using the USADA Play Clean Tip Center, by text at 87232 ("USADA"), by email at playclean@USADA.org, by phone at 1-877-Play Clean (1-877 752-9253) or by mail.

USADA is responsible for the testing and results management process for athletes in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement and is equally dedicated to preserving the integrity of sport through research initiatives and educational programs.

Doesn't seem to be that big of a deal honestly and I say that as someone far from being a PSU/NLWC fan and definitely not a Gilman fan. All 3 of these incidents occured after OLY trials during which time Gilman admitted to having a really $hitty attitude so he probably didn't give 2 turkeys about whereabouts requirements. However, he has also during this time made multiple vague and confusing comments about not being retired so at the very least this was yet another display of poor foresight, judgement, and just plain ole negligence.

I don't think this incident should be tracked back to NLWC. This is all Gilman. He is a strange character. All 3 (brief) in person interactions that I had the displeasure of having with him were very uncomfortable. He does weird stuff

Ok...so lets circle back to the logic that Aaron Brooks is using this year to just take steroids to get bigger.

Do we see now why that doesn't make any sense?

I agree that this probably a big nothing burger because Gilman was in dgaf mode. And he's a weird cat cut straight from the TnT cloth so that doesn't help in the court of public opinion, but myeh he's crazy enough I would actually believe him.

No way this is true. He has already done so much HGH that his skull was so overgrown it was literally exploding through headgear every match his last two college seasons. Made Barry Bonds look like a nugget!

Does anyone know if there is anything in the Bible about PEDs? I know that tattoos aren't allowed but the Ram Of The East has his own interpretation on that.

Because he has to report his location? (or proactively remove himself from the competition pool)

You may be correct as none of the 3 were in November.   🦃 🦃

Yeah...for exactly that reason. Do you think they want to know your location just for their own amusement? They want to know so they can test you whenever they feel like it. (Not...literally you, the royal you, I'm assuming you understand this).

So...just NOT Wrestling doesn't mean you're immune from testing...which was the stupid theory. 'If he's not Wrestling, he can't be tested, that's why he's taking a year off.'

I can't imagine what the comments would be in 5 years if Aedon Sinclair went to Penn State. They'd also claim his skull grew and ignore that...it looks no different than it did when he was a kid.

Now that I think about it, he was in Stillwater during that time. So was the garage fridge of his new training partner.

But honestly, I don't think Gilman is a cheater. I think he is one of those "I'm not an asshole I just tell it like it is" types and he ignored the whereabouts requests because he didn't have any interest until it was too late.

Because until you remove yourself from the testing pool (and resultant whereabouts requirements…so they can test you), they are going to test you.
