My guess would be they have a plan for redshirts and weights. It may have been what was holding up the official announcement???

Did paddy graduate? If no, how does he fit in the mix now?

well that's even worse, they decided to attend an ivy league institution of higher learning to continue their academic and athletic endeavors as student athletes

maybe need to take long look at what comes first

As at Cornell, almost all Penn recruits are now taking a gap year and training at the PRTC before enrolling at school. Gotta keep up with the Joneses both in and out of the Ivy League.

Not sure what I would've done if this scenario was presented to me coming out of high school. An extra year of physical maturity would've definitely helped me in my wrestling career. But, I would've been bored out of my mind without classes or work.

pretty sure may 2nd is just the last day that they can enter, but once entered they can stay in until they find a fit

That sounds like a good deal for the athlete. I guess that makes the coaches job somewhat tougher to know his lineups

Yes - May 2nd - but the loophole is that they can transfer and walk on without the portal...unless of course the current settlement can clarify some things and shut down some loop holes.

I could be wrong, but I thought the Cornell kids take their gap years taking classes at Finger Lakes CC?  Since they can't redshirt they still have 4 years of eligibility and I think a recent court ruling doesn't count community college against eligibility (should they graduate early and want to transfer).   Does anyone know if that is correct?

It's not really a "gap year" if you are taking classes now is it?  🤔

Pretty sure they did when deciding to enroll at an IVY league school and wrestle at D1 school who has consistently been in the top 10 year in and year out the last two decades.   Next years incoming class of 2025 include 8 of the top 50 big boarders meaning that wrestling is clearly a large part of their life.  So why can’t they have both?  Unfortunately, IVY rules don’t allow them to red shirt and if they were to enroll second semester, they would graduate too early and not be able to finish their athletic career at Cornell (Cardenas case in point). So I do not exactly see what is wrong with taking a gap year off to focus on their wrestling prior to entering college and going through the grueling curriculum and D1 wrestling experience.  I certainly don’t think that someone that gets accepted to Cornell and is one of the top 50 wrestlers in their class in the entire country (regardless of weight) needs to look at themselves in their mirror and feel anything but proud.

What if Ragusin goes 41? Lemley still has a RS doesn't he?

They tried that already.  Kid couldn't get over 138lbs after practice.

Just won Gold at 70KG U23 Pan Ams.  His stock has got to be as high as it ever will be.

I was hopeful when they hired Kish, but in the three seasons since he joined Oklahoma, they seem to be going backward compared to how they were under Rosselli.

I wonder if he was fully on board with going to Big 12s and using a year of eligibility after being out all year

He was really good. Gave up a single point in four matches I believe...💪

If so, lose Fishback, and add TJ (who's 2-1 against Fishback and every match is razor close) isn't a bad deal for NC State.

2W-1L against Fishback, but 0W-1L against him last year on a 12W-12L campaign (VS 16W-8L for Fishback).

Career records the last two seasons are 26W-16L(TJ) VS 36W-17L and 10W-7L (TJ) VS 16W-7L for common opponents.

Razor thin when they wrestle, sure (no OT matches, fwiw), but Fishback was definitely the better wrestler last season.

Factor in Daddy Drama and I would prefer Fishback on my team, rather than Stweart, 10/10 times.

That said, Fishback or Stewart to 197 is a real possibility as well and I might like that one for NC State.

3 for 3?

Looks like my favorite dual meet of the year just added another storyline. Now Fishback just needs to do his part and get to Blacksburg ASAP.

No need to besmirch all of the "content creators" on wrestling twitter where making a graphic is the gold standard!  😜
