Dude, wtf is going on

Willie and Pat Minnow are saying there's rumors... wonder why Gilman would head back to penn state?

Minnow saying that it's official...but his track record isn't best recently.

If true, the next surprise should be Spencer Lee to Ok State as an assistant and training there.

Well then. Run it like a business. Throw in non competes and suck. Make these commitments 4 year contracts.

The only way to do that is to make athletes employees, and the universities have faught tooth and nail against that.

If I remember correctly, I think Gilman is married to Mike Evans (former AA for Iowa) sister.  That would mean his wife grew up near Harrisburg, PA.  If he is heading back to state college it could be as simple as wife (and children if he has any) want to get back closer to family.

Or the obvious that Cael poached him.

Not having enough fun. It's why he stomped Taylor's toe.

If Gilman’s wife’s family is near state college, it makes sense. Other than that, it would make zero sense to leave Stilly with the season they just had and the firepower they have coming their way over the next two seasons. Hope it’s not true, but family comes first (especially kids growing up around grandparents).

If it's true, my guess is it's to continue competing. He's been clear that he never retired.

I remember he gave an interview a couple months ago (here?) where he was self-critical of how he'd left PSU, sort of leaving coach Cody hanging about going on overseas trip as the Olympic alternate.  Said it was on him, and that he'd since patched it up.  Didn't sound like he burned any bridges there.

I wouldn't be very surprised if he left Ok State in any event.  I think it was the same interview where he was surprisingly open about not being particularly committed to OSU.  It isn't like he was looking for assistant gigs, went interviewing around, and chose OSU. It was more that his buddy Taylor got the head coaching gig just before the season started, needed to fill out his staff on short notice, and asked Gilman. It gave me the sense that he agreed more to help out Taylor than because he really wanted to move on.

I suppose he could be coaching at PSU/NLWC too, if he decided OSU wasn't for him. But whatever's going on, I'm guessing it's less drama-filled than people will make it out to be.

Let's set the record straight. Skutt Catholic poached him from grade school before Iowa poached him from Skutt before Penn State poached him from Iowa before Oklahoma State poached him from Penn State before Penn State poached him from Oklahoma State. Oh, and his wife poached him from his mother.

I heard there was some issues at their year end dinner. A donor was being extra friendly to Gillman's wife and Gillman said something to the dude. I don't think that has anything to do with him leaving, but I thought it was interesting.

That is what I heard. I don't want to post the donors name, but I have heard his name

As discussed way earlier in a previous thread. When poaching it is very important to know the temperature and rumbling of the water, in addition to care in easing it in, to get the best results! Or it can lead to an unwanted mess.

Business non-competes (restrictive covenants) are heavily disfavored and often unlawful in some states and many cases - and they would by unlawful here.

Sounds like someone wasn't being a team player. Big donors expect and deserve certain perks.
