About 10 years ago my wife and I considered moving to New Zealand so we looked into the requirements to become a resident.

Requirements to become a New Zealand resident (ai assist):

- **Health**: Good health, proven by a medical certificate.
- **Character**: No serious criminal history, shown with police certificates.
- **English**: Basic English ability (varies by category, sometimes waived).
- **Pathways**:
- **Skilled Migrant**: Under 55, skilled job/offer, 160+ points (age, skills, etc.).
- **Work to Residence**: 2 years on eligible work visa with full-time job.
- **Family**: Partner, child, or parent of a NZ citizen/resident; relationship proof or financial sponsorship.
- **Investor**: Invest NZD $5M–$15M, meet time-in-country rules.
- **Special**: Pacific ballot, family violence/trafficking victims, or Australian citizen/resident status.
- **Permanent Residency**: After 2 years as resident, spend 184 days/year in NZ or show commitment (e.g., tax residency, business).

Not to mention the horrendous taxes that you have to pay.  I have a friend who married a NZer and they live there part time now because of the taxes.  The other time is spent in WA down by the Columbia river.

fwiw i think this $5m thing is an extreme by Trump and response to the extreme by the left in letting the southern border be completely open.

however i've looked at other countries over the years and there's a ton of them that have similar policies and/or ask you to make a significant investment in their country to secure citizenship.

Call me a "nut bag" if it makes you feel better, but these words aren't complicated. All simply defined.

The more I learn about this...I sorta like it.  Not seeing what is wrong with it at this point.  Plus, there is a similar program already in place in the US (I think since the 90's), this is just a different twist to it.  Everything I read, the first deciding factor will be the extensive vetting process and which absolutely should be very extensive.  I know people are going to say that money will buy their way through the vetting process, but I guess I don't find the boogeyman in everything and assume it will be very strict.  Seems like it would be a great revenue stream for the US as well as more than likely the people who can afford it will also bring a lot of tax money into the US and probably jobs.

For those that are against it I'd love to hear your perspective.  Please, don't waste your time if all you have is the "I hate Trum so that is why it is bad".

What is the reasoning against the idea?  Some form of "rich guys buying visas feels unfair."  Have they considered the second and third order impact?  Besides helping our locals in need, this could pay for the global compassion they’re pushing.
