He's getting zero money from anywhere else and his career aspiration is to be famous. This is the only path left.

He washed out of WWE. He never got off the ground in the NFL. If Bo Nickal, who is the Dana White prototype of supreme mic skills and mat skills and stopping power, can't get a prize fight yet then there is not a chance in hell Steveson makes big MMA moves in less than 5 years. He's a marginal fashion influencer.

Wrestling isn't sexy but it's always going to be there for Steveson as long as he wants to compete.

Was in the professional work force 3:4 years by then.  And I don’t think the on off up down wtt no wtt college no college mma no mma wwf no wwf would have went over so well in IT / corporate America.   Maybe that helps?

Some people just don't get their *I poop my pants, don't laugh at me* together in life until they get a gutcheck or a reality check. 

Personally, I tend to tell my story that my adult life really began at 29. Took me seven years to get my undergrad, had some personal and family issues to deal with. Was lazy in the classroom, paid for that by paying my way my last three years while working nights and announcing tournaments on the weekend. Went full-time in my chosen career two months after I graduated - hated it. Quit two months later to pursue the wrestling thing full time. 

I'm sure it's just amplified more now than it was back then, but it seems like we got some awfully judgy wrestling fans when it comes to the lives of our stars. 

I get it's a discussion topic for the boards, but at the same point, the level of scrutiny we see over someone else's life and talent isn't a trend I really enjoy. The contempt comes, at least from my perspective, that fans are disappointed that Gable didn't do what they thought he should have done.

However the NCAA is full of it by letting him compete in college again. IMO. Olympic redshirt year where he didn't try out for Olympics, and assuming he got paid for WWE and NFL then he's also a professional athlete. That's another subject though.

Except to wrestle this season he is probably making at least 4-5 years worth of salary of the average recent college grad, not bad for playing a sport (on top of what he made in WWE and with the Bills).

I saw someone that put it pretty well…this is probably just a job for him.  Can’t fault him for cashing in while he still can.

It's funny you say that, but I have a belief that there has been a general societal age shift of about 10 years from what societal age expectations used to be in the 1970s to mid 2000s. 

In the modern sense, yeah, 24 year olds today are viewed more like teenagers were back then. So, Gable is still just a "kid".

You said you wouldn't be shocked if he lost to Kerk or Bastida.

 

You basically guaranteed Stevenson would lose! I totally agree. Moreso with Kerk than Bastida, but if Kerk is going to Wrestle this season with the focus and intention to beat Stevenson...I absolutely think he's capable of doing it. I don't think anyone else is, but people are sleeping on how big, long, athletic Kerk is. To me, I'd be more confident if Kerk didn't look half checked out most of the time and he's won a NC doing that. 

 

I also wouldn't be "shocked" if Keck beats Starocci at the NCAAs, if Haines beats O'Toole(that one I actually do expect) or almost any other result.

The only thing I'd BET on would be a healthy Mesenbrink wins it.
