Do they? I've heard a lot of beta males say this... Honestly, being a sigma male...I couldn't care less!

I don't think he was dejected at all, I think he was thrilled. I have been in a situation(with...needless to say FAR lower stakes) where I coach against kids I coached in kids club, middle school, a little bit in College and you want to win, but then you think about watching those kids grow and their pain(again, this is going, placing or winning state) and you're excited and then again, you think about that kid you spent hours with and you're conflicted. And the last thing you want to do is seem overjoyed. A kid who viewed you as a mentor or a hero(that's more DT specific, LOL) and...it's going to be mixed feelings, but you want to win first and foremost.

Coaches who should be in the hot seat after NCAAs
scourge165 replied to WrestlingRash's topic in College Wrestling
Yeah, it really is bad luck. They just don't have the depth...and neither does Iowa for that matter, but guys get hurt. That's why a lot of Freshmen I know don't want to take that RS if they're healthy. They know what a year with this scrambling and the bent knees will do to their careers... They have some studs coming and a really good recruiting class and the knee injuries...they are just flukey. So are the shoulder injuries. Every time you're in on a single trying to finish, that's...creating a dangerous situation. -

Maybe...but it just seems disappointing. Nebraska, I get Smith is a transfer, but look at that talent they've developed. Iowa has Buchanan(one finalist), Caliendo(2nd), Teemer, Parco. I think a big move in the right direction was Bassett. I hope Estrada can become a stud for them. But bang for the buck, it's the high end HS kids and then it really seems like they could use a fresh coach in their room. Outside the box, but I'm just thinking...I wonder if you paid Nolf the right type of money, if you could get him. They DO seem like they've made a BIG step in the right direction. If they can go Caliendo, Kennedy, Arnold, Ferrari, Keuter on the back half next year... Maybe Harvey Ludington in there at '97(dear GOD if there was ever a reason to not go after AJ Ferrari...this is the case. You have a stud coming in, a guy who could develop into a multi National Champ... You could start out with Deluca, Ayala...I think 149 could be Estrada. I thought he was a STUD and an underrated recruit. You add Bassett and maybe pick up another recruit at that '41-'65 by '26 and you'll have a TON of homegrown talent. But Iowa has to develop their own young guys to get the heat online off Brands. -
Yeah, I think the story was written with Lillendahl, Bartlett, SVN, Kasak and Haines. PSU usually wins a couple of those. SVN came out like he had no plan. Kasak just couldn't string together attacks. Haines wrestled a very timid Hamiti(after the first TD) and was in on several shots and...never seemed to show the appropriate level of desperation. Lillendahl looked flat. Penn State has built their reputation for what they do on ESPN on Friday Morning, Friday Night and then perhaps Saturday. Kasak or SVN wrestling back on the backside their Freshmen years were VERY impressive and that's what you expect maybe of the younger guys, but not NCs or the #1 seeds(though I will say Davis last year was a big of an outlier). They win the 50/50 matches and most of the 25/75 matches....like Josh Barr did. But when THIS type of tournament is less than impressive for YOUR standards, that only speaks to your standards.

That's...silly. They had two competitive Wrestlers. '25 and '33. It should really take more than that. -

There are like...93 threads about Wisconsin and Bono already. His seat isn't hot...though after a 7 minute match, his arse should be well done, he's not going anywhere. It IS interesting to think about what a Wisconsin team could do... -25 Rivera -33 Fugitt -41 Clark -49 Brenner -65-Mesenbrink(and about 5 others) -74-O'Toole, Whiting, Riddle -84-Keckiesen and then Sinclair -97-Buchanan, Mirasola -HWT-Mirasola I'm missing guys, but...that's a contender there. -
This is a fools errand at most weights(only because it's unpredictable...but I still enter pools). 125-Spratley needs to come out and be more aggressive. Robinson IS going to get in on him and probably take him down. He's too slick and talented. I've seen two Spratley's...but based on the Semis, I've gotta take Robinson 133-I'm a huge Byrd fan, I'm taking Byrd again...even if I think it's Ayala's year. 141-Mendez(I WOULD like to see Hardy get some payback for what happened to him last year...an indignity no man should EVER suffer...that man was on ESPN). 149-Lovett 157-Insane. I'd have bet money Shapiro and Kasak would be out there, but I think Taylor is figuring it out. 165-Mesenbrink is Thanos. He is inveitable. 174-Hamiti...I think the Haines match helped him get over the hump. 184-Cstarr but this is not a gimme. 197-I think Barr pulls this one out HWT-Hendrickson (no, not really, Gable, BUT...I think the blue print to beating Gable is simple and nearly impossible. Defensive 1st, close the distant, handfight but block. Gable goes down, Hendrickson has to beat his first move, ride him...not out, but for a while, take a little more wind out of his sails and then...3rd period...find a way to get a TD?)

Well, Starr is more cut and...looks more cut, but I thought he was actually a little more cut than Keck, but Keck is thicker in the core. He could have a Ruth like career or he could have a Hidlay type career. Wouldn't be shocked either way. Again, the talent at '84 is going to be wild the next few years. If I was Barr though, I'd be spending the off-season building up and planning on staying at '97. Even if that means Mirasola has to cut or....well, not make the lineup.
-
I don't know how good of a football player McEnelly was(obviously good) but wasn't Dechow offered D1 Scholarships? I thought he was a 200LB back who ran like a 4.5 40 and could have...potentially played at the next level(I guess if you're that good and highly recruited, I just assume you COULD go pro). I'm not sure his build is not a normal Wrestling build. He's just ...good sized '84. More athletic and his feet are quicker than normal 84's, but he looks like a slightly bigger Cael as a Freshmen.
-
Maybe. He's more athletic...but that's not a huge margin. And I think Parker is bigger and more physical than Starocci. Just a bigger frame, length. I think they both had a chance to beat Starocci and I still think Parker does. I really think this will be Starocci's more impressive tournament could be this year(though...last year, the bad knee, beating former NC back to back was also pretty impressive. Also why in all the arguments I made about Starocci and what a 5th would mean I qualified it with an IF he wins. And another topic, but I mentioned this yesterday, but how ridiculous is 184 gonna be next year? McEnally, Barr, Welsh, Ferrari, you have a bunch of guys coming back. Berge and others. Just a stacked weight. Oh, Sinclair seems like he'll be at 184(though...I hope it's 174).
-
Yeah, I meant in terms of the big matches. I guess I haven't been paying attention to the backside. I thought I saw someone say Davis was out and I know Lillendahl beat Rivera...and I suppose it's a good bet SVN, Kasak, Haines, Bartlett all take 3rd. But yeah, it's just not the type of performance I expected. That's probably due to Penn State's overall performance.
-
Dude...it's an expression. "Give credit to..." doesn't mean YOU specifically are not giving those teams credit, it's just...simply MY way of saying...give those teams credit. You ever watch a Super Bowl, World Series, whatever? The losing team, they say, "give credit to the Eagles, they battled all night, just came up short." Whatever. Man, people are sensitive(or at least on edge). Why would you think I'm "barking" at you at all?
-
I can't speak to his reasoning, but that male pattern baldness and those gold medals? I mean, who even cares about LSU Women's Gymnastics at this point, ammiright? (I mean, to be clear...I've never actually watched LSU Gymnastics, but I'm still...quite the fan...or I used to be until Okie St Wrestling become a contender again).
-
Yeah, but...if you're a PSU fan, this is probably the worst tournament under Cael...relative to expectations. They have such an uncanny knack for winning in the Semis...to watch Van Ness get just dominated in the first, Kasak to get beaten, Haines just had one chance after another as Hamiti shut it down(he really should have just scored and put it away). Give credit to Nebraska, Okie State, Iowa...I mean, I don't think anything has fundamentally changed given the talent PSU has that'll be there the next year or 3, especially if Ono is really going to Wrestle(is this confirmed by the way) but I think as much as PSU has been dominant, the top programs are just elevating. It's cool to see.
-
Yeah, but I'm not at this one...it's totally different being there vs not. I remember watching Johnny Thompson get knocked off early or...Caldwell lose in the finals. It's always wilder in the arena. Are you out there? Do you have an Apples to Apples comp? I will say, at HWT...I picked Kerk, but in retrospect, I'm not surprised. He's a guy who has looked like he's been afflicted with HEW for years. Despite that, he's taken a 2nd and won it last year. But now he doesn't have to Wrestle Gable? IDK, certainly not saying he threw it, but I doubt his heart is broken at the moment(or maybe he just shows very little emotion and I'm WAY off the mark).

Will Wrestling for Boys/Men Start to Follow Suit?
scourge165 replied to Tom formerly Tofurky's topic in College Wrestling
Cool. And what am I supposed to reply to this with? 'Nuh-uh.' You just saying so doesn't make it so. It's CLEARLY not circling the drain. That's just nonsense. -
Now...I always love watching the Semis and...the Quarters and...well, all the D1s, but this round just felt different. There were SO many matches that were either shocking to me or just INCREDIBLE matches. I was going to ask if this was the best Semi's ever, but I'll just go with the Keckiesen vs McEnally match. That was just an INCREDIBLE match. Up there with O'Toole and Devos. Hamiti over Haines. I thought someone may be needed to give Hamiti the Heimlich in the 3rd period(and he did his best to choke that away)...but he finally pulled one of those out. Last year he's in the finals if he holds on vs Mesenbrink. Should have beaten O'Toole last week. We'll see if he's over it and can get it done tomorrow night. Rommey...I thought HE had that match won. Fugitt vs Ayala...never thought he was going to win, but if he finishes that TD, he had a great game plan for Ayala(it ended up being a whooping). Barr beating Cardenas was great. Barr wrestled that about as well as possible. Was that the best Semis ever? Or is that a little silly recency bias?

I'd hate it. I don't like a pushout rule, I don't think you need to change a thing. I think Folkstyle is more exciting. I mean, you get the best athletes in the world, so Freestyle is hardly dull, but...I'd just prefer the control style of wrestling vs the exposure style. One feels like it lends itself to the inferior Wrestler having a better chance at winning. Just my opinion. I know a lot of people are in favor. Just to go slightly off-topic, I think the Push-out would ruin so much great edge Wrestling.... -
May he rest in peace!
-
I don't think it's a huge stretch. 215 seems more likely. You have ALL DAY and if he's ~8-10 over the night before or going into the Semi's...it's pushing it, but I don't think it's that wild. I'm guessing he loses tonight and then doesn't MFFs out of the tourney though.
-
Ok....he redshirted. I stand corrected. It really doesn't materially impact ANYTHING...
-
Yup...24/7! And "ignore" comes in useful again.
-
Yeah...because you're a troll and they're both black? You JUST had a guy who is at least familiar with the program tell you they're pretty close, but...yet, you follow up with this. Jimmy knows better. Ultimately, I really don't see a kid who is an undefeated Freshmen at 184 heading into the B1G finals, a tough weight...who has scored like he has...I don't think he's having any confidence issues. He's all good. Stevenson saying the guy who is the overwhelming favorite to win the weight isn't going to change how he performs.
