Jordan did struggle playing Baseball. No question about that. It was still pretty amazing what he did. The guy hadn't swung a bat in 15 years(lost his eligibility as a Sr because he played in the McDonalds AA game)...and he jumped in at AA, the level with the most talent and he was much better than I think most people would expect. He actually started to figure it out and hit over .250 in the Arizona Fall League(for those who aren't Baseball fans, that is a league for really good prospects to get more work...it's become watered down, but was even better when MJ played). For perspective though, AA would be more like the SEC for Football and Jordan grew up playing the game. I didn't think Gable had played HS Football. He IS young enough that maybe he could learn all the intricacies of the game that we take for granted. The technique, working on the hands(Wrestling would help a great deal here). But he's just so short. I'm curious how long his arms are though. They look pretty long. It'd be fun to see IF he went for it IF he could play at Minnesota...provided he was granted a year of eligibility, but the chances of him becoming an NFL-caliber DL are tiny. I'd like to see it though.

Poll: Who Does PSU Pick As The New Assistant?
scourge165 replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
Yeah, that's pretty well known, but in the - column, he's already filled out his staff and it'd be kinda had to slide Dake in as the #2 and now install him as the Cunningham type figure at Okie State. I'm certainly not ruling it out, I'm just saying while he's competing. -

scourge165 replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
I would think Dake would stay at PSU while he's competing. If he's going to continue to compete...he makes more sense at PSU. I was thinking he'd end up at OK St as the "Casey Cunningham," but so long as he's competing... -
Yeah, I'm sure he'd like to as well! LOL...I think he's going to give up some TDs. I think there are just too many guys who are SO incredibly slick that it's tough for him in his style, always attacking, moving forward, to not leg some guys get in and even score. But he'll come back and win with his relentlessness...I hope.
-
Just to be clear, I simply meant relatively speaking. Not that he's not great on his feet...it's just not where he's at his best. He's tougher than hell to turn, he can turn guys easily and his gas tank is looking much better...to the point where I think he'll be able to go a full 6 at his pace by the Olympics. I think it was kinda obvious that was an issue when he was dealing with knee injuries. So it's really nitpicking, but the point was I think he may be better suited for Freestyle...which is kinda wild as he was the biggest upset in Wrestling History(or at least since Larry Owings) from being a 4X Champ.
-
He's getting healthier! Less College Wrestling, less torque on the knees(still a bit, but less). I don't see why he wouldn't have a shot at not just one, two, but possibly THREE cycles. He's 25. 4 years, 29, his 2nd cycle, and 33...he could make a run for 3 Olympics. He doesn't have to wrestle as often, less knee injuries hopefully. I think his career may just be starting. He's so good when he's healthy and he can move. He's not the slickest, but he's a legit 57, he has preternatural strength with his turns...like starting a Kia. His "weakness," is on his feet and his gas tank(which has been filling up as his knee's been getting healthy). I think he wants to do unique things after the way his Prep and Collegiate careers ended.

Fanbase comparisons on the forum based on your experience
scourge165 replied to Hammerlock3's topic in College Wrestling
I should clarify my last post...I haven't noticed any "Fan Base," in particular that's obnoxious on this forum. PSU would be the closest, but that's almost entirely driven by one pasty enthusiast who creates the dumbest possible topics. -

scourge165 replied to Hammerlock3's topic in College Wrestling
I have never noticed how bad OSU fans could be until this David Taylor hire! The shit-talking is just relentless...and they haven't done anything! I don't really care about any other fan base. Iowa fans can be a bit cocky. I remember a story about Cael being asked if he thought he could have won ONE State Title if he'd Wrestled in Iowa in HS. Penn thinks if you're not from Penn, you're just not serious about Wrestling(they do have more hammer's than all of Lowe's, but still...there are other good Wrestlers). But it's Oklahoma and not even close. I just didn't realize how bad until recently. They are definitely counting their rings before they're...mined I guess? -
Tom Ryan Involved In Automobile Accident
scourge165 replied to RandolphTJones's topic in College Wrestling
I broke mine. The WORST part was I couldn't put it in a cast or anything. I had to have people life up my leg(especially the first week or so) as I lowered myself onto the couch. And...while this may sound funny, I assure you it was NOT, but try sitting on a toilet! I remember the only one I could get access to was one on the first floor of my house. There was a Washer on one side and a sink on the other and I had to be a damn Gymnast because I couldn't sit. I chipped a tooth just grinding my teeth, just...the most painful thing in my LIFE. No other injuries either, but you it's so hard to describe. You can't handle ANY pressure on that part of the leg and when you normally sit down, the seat is RIGHT on your femur. Even trying to get on the couch yourself...it's such an unsettling feeling. There's always a point where you go to sit down where the weight is on that part of your leg. -
According to everything they're openly genocidal. That's kinda their thing. Yes, they're hurting Democrats. Obnoxious, entitled brats chanting death to America and blaming Biden. No historical understanding, just mindless catchphrases like "imperialism." "Open Air Prison." Go take a look at the pictures of Gaza before this started. They had resorts. They were among the world leaders in Hospitals per capita(though...I guess that'd also mean military installations per capita). They had a nearly 30% obesity rate. They received more aid per capita. While Israel and ALL its might have been engaging in this genocidal campaign, their population has grown at a rate that far exceeds Israel, doubling in a relatively short period of time. There is "indiscriminate" bombing of civilians. You often warn the people you're "indiscriminately" bombing. How can all these things be in this open-air prison that's 100% the fault of the Israelis? The poor Palestinians just want a state of their own...despite rejecting and sabotaging EVERY possible treaty that would give them just that. Why? Because the "state" they want is from the river to the sea.

It's also pretty well documented that he was a very good HS Football player. https://www.thedp.com/article/2020/08/joe-biden-penn-athletics-football-archmere-2020-election-delaware So...seems like at least two truths. He was also named one of DCs top 10 eligible bachelors because...well, his wife and young daughter died in a car accident.

This is...so annoying. "I heard he did this." What did you hear... -silence. Why even bring it up if you're not even going to say what the rumor is? -
Ok, so you NEVER wrote this part; Just want to clarify here... I also reject the notion that you can just retrain your mind and Monks retraining their minds, doesn't mean there's no therapeutic use for Adderall, but I agree it's over-prescribed, it's self-diagnosed by many people and it's handed out too freely. So was OxyContin, that didn't mean there weren't genuine uses for it. But if you are telling me you didn't say PTSD, addiction, schizophrenia, and dementia are also fake, fine.
-
LOL...I was with you on the over-prescribed and how it's performance-enhancing, etc...but proclaiming that it serves no actual therapeutic uses? I'm curious what makes you an authority in that area beyond "talking to roommates?" Ok, @MPhillips is this you being sarcastic and changing what he actually said, or did he say something this mind-numbingly stupid? Dementia, Alzheimers, addiction and schizophrenia? TF game is this? Spot the Scientologist?
-
LOL...yeah, I'll accept(out of ignorance) that it MAY not help you if you require something for ADHD...but I remember taking it once(I worked with this spaz who was always offering). I'm 22, working a summer job, hung over, he asks if I want one of his adderals as I was dragging. He gave me one and...aside from the inside of my cheek bleeding because I was chewing on it all day and watching my heartbeat, I was moving ALL day, didn't stop to eat, nothing. He laughed that he'd given me a 50MG instead of a normal 5(I didn't find it funny, he said it was "like a couple cups of coffee). I mean, it was obviously my fault for taking a medication meant for someone else....that's generally not a good idea, but he also thought it was funny Duck-duck-goosing with me...little shit.

You really need to have a common sense approach to this. NO drinking is just not feasible at the College level with ~40 kids on your team. You have to have your finger on the pulse of the team and get out ahead of issues. Kids drinking some beer after Nationals and letting off a little steam, that shouldn't get you kicked off the team. If a kid is drinking in February and getting blackout drunk...Wrestling isn't a priority and they should probably go ahead and transfer to ASU(I kid! Wisconsin is the place for those guys)... Smoking pot? I can't do it, I get paranoid as hell, but I knew a lot of athletes who did and it actually helped motivate them. Again, that should be more of a "is this impacting his attendance in class, is he partying too much, are they not making weight." I don't think smoking pot is that big of a deal...but I'm positive that will be a minority opinion. Drinking is a bigger issue, but I am skeptical that you can eliminate that ENTIRELY, even at PSU. But in-season, that should be obvious. -
And in between them, John Smith, the best of his. David Taylor, is arguably the best of his. And it's arguable because we've had so much success, you could easily say JB or Snyder.
-
Yeah, not so sure about that. In Wrestling, more than any other sport, Great Coaches...we're usually great Wrestlers. It's not a guarantee, but Burroughs? I'd bet on him. I think it's a stupid thread(that's a given)...but not a stupid idea.

Um...is Trent Hidlay possibly our rep at 86kg?
scourge165 replied to maligned's topic in International Wrestling
I honestly thought that Starocci's comments were about someone else. About guys just taking money(Aliverz for example). I didn't read it as him taking a shot at Taylor. Maybe that's naive, I know everyone else did, but I just viewed it as taking the money to Wrestle elsewhere. There's really no way you can blame DT. If Cael had hinted at hanging it up, I think DT would stay, but...he's not. Also, I thought Sanderson's hirings at PSU was one of the coolest things for the sport at that time, but also REALLY shitty. He elbows out Douglas and then parlays that into the PSU job? And I remember saying right then he's going to build an Iowa like Dynasty(which I remember arguing with my coach about, but I think a LOT of people probably saw that coming given Penn's in-state talent...didn't see THIS type of dominance though). Anyway, I agree, they'd rally behind him. You can't blame the man for doing what..you KNOW you'd do in that situation or what your own coach and mentor did. -

I believe he'd still train at the NLWC. You don't just lose those lifelong friendships and bonds because you decide to take one of the top 3, 4 jobs in the sport. If Cael and the kids/young men at the NLWC are who we think they are, they'd 100% be in DT's corner, they'd want him there and to be in his corner.
