Yeah, as a coach you put the best guys out there. And I know the Wrestlers understand. That's kinda my point. They could have 3-4 of the best 157/165 in the Country in a year and only 2 can Wrestle. Not many College kids want to start 2 years after being a backup for 2 years when they know they could be Wrestling in the Semis with a SHOT as Fresh/Soph. You need good backups. You don't need a NC in waiting at every weight. And yes, you let it take care of itself. We're just talking about how that's going to happen. That said, this is about Wolbert, a kid who's a stud and should get his own thread, so I'm not even sure how this turned into a PSU thread! I've forgotten. It'll be fun to watch! Sinclair is wrestling 197 right now. I think Wolbert is taller. They clearly have different builds, but he looks like Kasak when he was a '38 and he was cutting(because...Penn and not Wisconsin). You watch and he's taller than a lot of the guys he's Wrestling. He could add some muscle and cut to '41 but the trend seems to be to cut less, build up more and enjoy the sport. That's Cael's ideology from what I can tell, Askren's and DT had a little success when he added a few pounds.

It hasn't happened to this point because the room has not been THIS deep to this point. They didn't have this type of depth on this team in the past...great as they were. And Duke RS for a year and then starting would mean he doesn't get bigger, stays at '57, SVN stays down at '49(or he beats SVN). And then you have Kasak, Mesenbrink, Ryder, Barr, Sealey. You'd have to assume Kasak or Mesenbrink go up in order for this to happen and I don't know that either have that much more room to add. But again, we're still talking about those guys, Henckel, Cunningham Brothers as well as the guys I mentioned. You're also going to have the roster limits coming in and playing a role. Not even sure when they start, but it's going to start happening. Facundo almost has to. He's going to watch a year just slip away. This is a guy who beat Haines on the world stage and reportedly beat Kasak in a Wrestle-off...which I don't think is all that hard to believe. I guess what could happen is that Tyler Kasak could take a RS but this is all to get Duke in there and a lot of other guys who'll be sitting early in their careers. But that's PSU for the next few years...and we all known they're going to keep picking up a couple top 10 kids in the meantime and a few other top 40 kids(in a down year). Also...he has lost a couple guys. You had Bubba Jenkins who was not too different from Mekhi Lewis in terms of accomplishments. 2nd, then undefeated going into the NCAAs but was hurt, then came back for ASU and won it. Suriano-2X Champ after leaving. Maybe that's being a bit pedantic. Those are two guys who have unique reasons(Suriano just because he's unique). Guys who did I think may prove my point more than hurt it; Beard-I don't think Barr is beating him if he stays and he was an AA as a Freshmen...but Dean came in. Nevillis-A top recruit who just fell behind two NC at HWT including the guy who has given Gable his only College loses. And a few others who just wanted to Wrestle like Barraclough. I think if/when he becomes an AA at a small school, it's only going to serve as stronger motivation, particularly for bigger recruits to leave.

I'm not getting this. Is the joke you don't think AJ Ferrari will Wrestle, so you're just talking about Angelo? Because...it's tough to win a National Champ without Wrestling more than 2 matches against "average" competition. But I agree...Josh Barr will beat the 2021 National Champs...if he ever actually Wrestles him.

So...what do you do? The PSU fan obviously likes the Greyshirt, Redshirt, and then 4 years...but if you're Duke, do you want to wait a couple more years? When you say ready to win, we all understand you're saying ready to compete for a title, but...can he beat Kasak or Mesnbrink? Perhaps. He'll likely be able to compete with any and of them. So he makes plenty of sense to be one of those guys to transfer out. But Okie St...he builds up, goes '74, slides in for Hamiti? Or, better yet(for team races) Ohio State. They've got a whole lot of talent and him sliding in at '65 there?

Yeah, but...what happens when your hands are full? A lot can happen in two years. Unless you're worried about regression/injury, how the hell do you squeeze Duke into that lineup? This is already assumnig Facundo is out and we saw him beat Haines soundly, but he's lost to Kasak. So Duke comes in, takes a RS, he's still bumping up against Kasak, Mesnbrink, Haines(to say nothing of several others who you'd think would be AA caliber Wrestlers based on past accomplishments).

It'd make sense. Cunningham just lost to another kid that's headed there. I think PJ Duke could be a contender to win 4 Titles. At least as much as anyone is. But yeah, he's got guys who'll have won 2 or 3 ahead of him.

Yeah, that's going to change. Guys like Duke aren't waiting 3 years to maybe crack the lineup. Henckel, Cunningham, Sealey these are guys who have a lot of talent. I mean, Cunningham is probably sticking around with his Dad and Brother, but guys LIKE that. One of Mirasola/Ryder won't be starting most likely and they're studs. It hasn't been this packed for a while. It really went to another level when you had Mesenbrink transfer in, the Mirasola twins go there and then Starocci coming back. Barraclough and Nevills are really tough kids, but probably not as talented as the depth they've got coming in or already in.

Why are you showing me this? I understand exactly how much they make... A 7th rd pick from last year('23) is going to make ~3.8M over the first 4 years of the deal...but they're not getting much if any GTD money...which is why I said the key is making the roster(that's a 500K-600K difference over PS). And I said I wouldn't go so far as to say what someone like Starocci or Brooks(assuming they go on to win an NC) are making "pennies" as compared to that. But 3.8M in salary through FOUR years is probably going to come out to ~2M after taxes(agent fees, etc...). I said it made more sense, but you just posted those salaries for what reason exactly?

Hell no. When you factor in that the initial roster is more like a 69 man roster now with the value placed on the PS, the promotions, the number of times you can protect a guy, IR isn't limited to 1 player coming back(or 2) so teams are more likely to use IR and promote from within...and that's a ~90K pay bump for that week and you're probably not playing much, so not a ton of blows to the brain. It's a great deal. It becomes slightly worse of a deal if you're getting 40 snaps at LB or on the DL and then the head trauma comes into it, but...those guys can wear those guardian caps now. They reduce impact so much more than the improved helmets which reduce the impact so much more than the helmets from ~15 years ago, so that's constantly evolving. I never understand why a guy goes the Greg Kerkvliet route over the Micah Parsons route even if one is only a 5 year NFL back and the other a LT type clone. Don't know what Ross would do, but...I do know, it'd be cool to watch him Wrestle from a selfish standpoint. And Cael should be in Franklin's ear telling him to recruit that kid in case he falls out of love with Football, he can make an easy transition over to the Wrestling room!

I wouldn't go quite that far. His total compensation would be comparable if he was a late round pick AND if he makes the roster. Most late rd picks get very little GTD money and a Gold Medalist is getting ~500K. The benefit of the NFL over...the scenario you laid out above would be the benefits and then later on the pensions. Along with the connections. It's also hard to believe you can't eek out a career as a STer. But the key is making the roster and sticking around for a few years. That'd probably net you ~2M even as a 7th rd pick after taxes through his first contract. If he's even a rotational edge rusher OR the type of Special Teamer who hands-on, then the gap widens.

I always kinda assume that when a kid has that frame, but I thought he wanted to Wrestle. My "sources" are strictly online comments such as this though, so...IDK. I would think Keuter would be focusing on FB. If you're that big, that athletic...I mean, you're already tough enough. You just need to spend a few years on an NFL roster, you get a pension, you get a lot of money. More if you're drafted. And if you're kinda borderline, you're mostly a STer so you're not taking that beating. I can't imagine Ross as a DE in HS though. Again, he looks almost funny out there in his stance. He looks like something is wrong with him, but it's just him...in a stance. Anyone know exactly what size he is? I'd guess 6'5 225 if not 6'6. A lot of room to add weight to that frame as well.

Undersized due to his frame. It's not like he has to cut like Nash did. The plan WAS for him to Wrestle. I don't know the update. That was a big part of his decision. NU was allowing him to do both...and then when he flipped, Wisconsin said he could do both. It seems next to impossible to me, but if anyone can do it, it's a DL who is only a meal or two away from making 285, if that at this point. Keeping weight on at the end of the FB season isn't easy. Wisconsin's 23-year bowl streak...which is somehow the longest in the Nation(or was) coming to a close should certainly helped his case. He's only a few weeks behind everyone else. Not sure what his ceiling is though. Rd12? He's a helluva HWT, but...there are a lot of them in the B1G, Nation. Maybe he's 4-8?

How is Cochran leaving? At Semester? I was half hoping for one more year of PSU just DOMINATING a recruiting class just so we could see a B-team that could contend for a NC(though that's just objectively bad for the sport). I've actually watched videos(or at least one) arguing why Facundo wouldn't be highly sought after. "He wrestled at just one NCAA and didn't place." Good metric for the PSU expectations. Kid doesn't place at the toughest weight and he's...the "disappointment,' in the PSU room! I'm certainly confused as to why Kasak would transfer. Took a 3rd, he seems to be in line for the starting spot this year and is arguably the favorite to win a Title at the moment. He was a '41 heading into last season...but then SVN got hurt, he went up and took a 3rd. Nagao, Conchran if he could, Sealey, they'd make sense. Erik Gibson is another guy. I thought he was a pretty big get for them(maybe that was just the Gibson-Bartlett group). I also wonder if this isn't also good for PSU in the long run. With roster limits shrinking...it doesn't seem like it makes much sense to have Kasak, Facundo, Mesenbrink, Duke, Sealey, Cunningham, Henkel among others...just at '57-'65. I'd think a guy like Sealey would be getting a healthy chunk of cash. He was the big recruit they had coming in this time last year. I'm not sure if he's really done anything to take the shine off so much as...you have guys with 3 years of eligibilty at '49(3rd), '57(3rd), '65(2nd), 2 years at '74(2/1), he's not a '84 or '97 but if he was...while it's not as deep there, it's still not exactly lacking for talent. Also...that '26 class has 3 guys who I think are RARE talents. Guys who all have 4X potential. But No. 1 Bo Bassett and No. 2 Jax Forrest and No. 3 Deshaun Ross, the HWT out of Iowa. I think I'm a little higher on him as a Wrestler at the same age over Keuter just based on his length(though...not a big edge) but how explosive he is. You put those 3 in State College, I think PSU is running away with titles for the next 5-6 years easily. IF you put them in...say Okie St, that's the type of group Brands came from Va Tech to Iowa with. I would think Iowa and Okie State would be less likely for Ross(who I actually think should be the primary goal of PSU for that class). I watched that kid and he's Wrestling studs and he almost looks like he's got this big hunch back when he's in a stance. Then you realize...that kid just doesn't skip back day and when he drops and shoots and uncoils, he's already deep before taking the damn shot he's so long. And he's got a back to pull in that single, the speed to hit whatever shot he needs.

I'm not actually a hunter...which is weird as my entire family are. I have some family that moved up to Northern Wisconsin, Grandparents retired there...not sure why. They'd be snowed in for 4-5 days at a time in the winters, but I loved it. We bought some land up there a couple times, but now, I just bring friends up to the Cabin and they go hunt. So the Buffalo County is just something I've heard about and just saw on a Google search it was ranked #1 and Wisconsin was #1 for White Tail(though I'm skeptical given the Wolves...and apparently the Bears are particularly bad for the Dear). In fact, this wild story was a Cousin(by Marriage). Got to see the Mount before the Bar "accidentally" burned down and...it was impressive. The picture doesn't do it justice. Not sure either are the size of that beast in your picture, but the story is pretty wild. Horns get locked, one paws off the other head. The best County for Deer Hunting is in Wisconsin(the #1 Deer Hunting State in the Country) and Buffalo County is...maybe an hour outside of Madison? Just saying...if you really want them big bucks...stay at PSU, but if you want to hunt large dear, Madison is a pretty good place!

The keyword seems to be pedantic. Not Wrestling someone because they're too big, strong, and athletic to the point you're worried about injury...that'd seem to qualify, but...we can call it "smart," if you really need to make such a distinction.

This really isn't that deep. You asked, Can you tell us which guys are afraid and won't wrestle everyone in the room, and I relayed what Taylor had said about Kerk in the past. And I never said they needed each other as a workout partner, but it's really not that rare for a guy who's in the 200-210 range to workout with a HWT, especially a lighter one. And I'm not "taking" either one. I'm just...passing along what Taylor said.

Good point. I wonder if Cael wins it at a True Freshmen? I'd guess he'd have been at 177. Does he beat Mitch Clark? Does he get to him? He's not an undefeated 4X Champ. He's "just another 4X Champ!" I'm kidding obviously, 4 is 4, but...that really would take away from Cael's legacy. It's the 159-0 that's elevates what he did. If he's 158-1... It's all just shades of greatness at that point.

Well...I think he was more praising Kerk, but because he was scared of injury(so I guess that'd be both). He said it was like wrestling a refrigerator and he was so athletic for a man his size and didn't know his own strength. I also don't think Kerk is or has been 50 pounds heavier the last few years. You're taking what DT weighs in at...most recently, that was 202 vs what Kerk walks around at...which is ~245 last I heard. It's really not that crazy to have guys at that size roll around a bit. You assume DT was walking around at ~210, that's basically like a '97, they often Wrestle with the HWT.

Internationally...I guess I'd say '84 is probably the best weight for him. 86KG is ~189...so 197 is between 86 and 97. 92KG is closest to 197, but I am guessing that Sinclair is looking at the Olympic weights(I'd guess the same of Barr, Ryder, Arnold, Ferrari...anyone on that level). Just given his size as it stands today, him cutting to 74KG or ~163 is probably what a lot of guys with Olympic aspirations would do, but he's shown repeatedly, he's not going to make the sport miserable and cut a lot of weight(it's actually a great trend in the sport and I think makes for a better product and better Wrestlers in the long run). That may change as he climbs levels and it's not so easy for him, but I would guess 184, and he wrestles 86KG down the road.
