  1. It had been Denny Diehl. I think Jason took it over at some point.

  3. About 25 years ago the NCAA rules committee discussed rules changes for tournament scoring. I felt a simple solution to the situation where a few placers outweighed a balanced team. My solution was simply to use HS advancement points rather than college version. Keep the 16-12-9-7-5-3-2-1 but give 2 for championship advancement and 1 for consolations instead of the current 16-12-10-9-7-6-4-3 and 1 and .5. They bought into the compressed place point scheme. It did produce Minnesota winning with 10 placers and no finalists which is what they wanted but also produced what @jdalu75 said above.
  4. To me I never really thought the ag school thing was as much about academics as in-state vs out-of-state tuition possibilities for them to utilize.
  5. I was up high towards the center and didn't have that issue unless someone was standing up.
  6. Next door neighbors! I'm not sure.
  7. A few of us were noticing that he wasn't in Edmond's corner. I ran into Mom Ruth at the airport and she told me Ed had moved to Serbia (?) before the season where his wife is from.
  8. But Martin would have almost been Fix's age by then!
  9. Not sure what you mean close in time frame. Martin graduated in 89 Abe in 96.
  10. In particular in the finals they have several views available. I remember one locked hands challenge would not have been visible from the scorers table so they needed something from the other side. And to whoever asked, you can't challenge a challenge although some coaches creatively find something else to challenge.
  11. That's international.
  12. 2020 was the no championships year. 2021 was the year that didn't count.
  13. 30-35 years ago I was at the Wilkes Open just watching. Haselrig was there looking at the brackets on the wall. He looked at me(might have recognized me from ncaas) and asked me "how do the consolations work?" I told him, first you have to lose!
  14. It was blank when I looked a few minutes ago
  15. Could be anyone above. They would have all bumped
  16. Basically he forgot to go to class as I understand it
  17. Jimmy c will be upset if nobody responds to his threads
  18. Yeah but the alternate would have replaced 33 after the rest bumped up. There's no 32 either
  19. I see the rule change in the next book as you say but two paragraphs later they say the same thing but it's not hi-lited. I remember from while I was working (last year 2006) that an Iowa kid didn't weighin 3rd day without prior acknowledgment. They discussed it a while and let him go and made some rule change about it.
  20. Kept place and points. Only a rule if no good reason like injury.
  21. They were about the same size. Taylor was given anywhere from 390-425 (I think more at the Olympics). When I "weighed" Tab in at Lehigh about 40 years ago- I told him not to bother getting on the scale and asked him how much. He started at 390 and as I stared at him he went up a couple times and we settled on 415!
  22. He must have missed weight by over 200 pounds!
  23. Not sure. I guess it would allow the second alternate to become the first and weighin. Funny story about this one. Shawn won the year before and was the coverboy for the 1976 rulebook. He misses weight 2nd day for quarters. Coach Stan Abel says last year he was an outstanding wrestler- this year he was out standing in the hall! (Frick was The OW the year before but Stan always took liberties). Also, Abel was one of the coaches that referees would give a warning to when walking into the gym!
  24. They do allow the first alternate in to weighin just in case. As far as I recall, everyone else bumps up seed-wise and the alternate takes 33. Back when I was doing it the deadline was 5pm Monday before. I don't remember having a seeded kid replaced (not saying it didn't happen) to recall the process. I think we would redraw at that point since we didn't seed all the way down.
