  1. A feature I had in my old software (80s-early 00s) was a stat showing amount of time wrestled as a ratio (0-1) to amount possibly wrestled (assumed full times 5/6/7 minutes not ot). What I saw was that that ratio was less a factor of how good some were and more how "bad" both were as in the less skilled wrestlers would often just go to their backs. NCAAs were generally in the mid to upper .90s. A JV HS event could easily be under .50.
  2. Don't forget that the increase in TFs means that if Majs stayed the same, the number of dec must have dropped by the same amount to feed the majors back up to that number.
  3. Might not have won D1s (4th) but I'm sure Rulon Gardner won quite a few meals!
  4. Only 1 Olympics and World's hadn't started yet but ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Reed
  5. I'd add 2. Colin Kilrain (3,3,3 80-82)) Joe Peritore (2,2,3 65-67 65/66 to Uetake)
  6. Qualification didn't start until ~2008. I started getting involved around 1973/4. I posted that weight class the other day here. At some point after I got involved (maybe late 80s/90s) we started asking teams to only bring wrestlers with .500+ records but didn't police it. Prior to 1980 it was held in Grace Hall (and before around 1942 in Taylor Gym) where we could only hold 4 mats and even those probably curled up into the stands. As we got into the 90s, it was one of the biggest events in the country 7/8/900 wrestlers at Stabler with 8 mats (we'd laugh at those numbers now as I'm here about to help run the NHSCA with 5800). Consolations were follow the semi-finalists. We went to qualifications to be able to do full double elimination. If you lost to someone from some school other than Blair you were pretty much done.
  7. The butt thing is an interpretation not a specific rule. I was just talking to Kessel who did the challenges. I noticed in the finals how fast they went. Turns out they had 4 people there (two specific challengees and two refs rotating down there) watching on 8 screens. So they had already been watching (especially during the finals).
  8. https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-presentation-presidential-medal-freedom-dan-gable/ As a wrestler, Dan set a pin streak record of 25 consecutive pins. Now, I’m larger than you, a little bit. Do you think I could take you in wrestling? Would I have a big advantage? So, no- he didn't specifically say he was any good but I think his even asking the question means he doesn't really understand. He isn't one to say things tongue-in-cheek but obviously does exaggerate a lot (I won't go all the way with that statement).
  9. Agree with that also about reaction time.
  10. Meant left leg for the second part.
  11. I also noticed that one of the light weights walked off by himself (might have been a 125/133 just wanting to warm up)
  12. Thanks, this is the one I was thinking of. Not a td here because both butt cheeks not down. What I noticed (more when they replayed but I thought might have happened live) was that Henson pulled his left arm off Ridge's right leg and put both around Ridge's right so that later didn't have both legs.
  13. I suppose it depends on your definition but here- The bracket is from 1962 Nat Preps
  14. Over the years I worked ('87-'06) I seem to remember removing two kids from the brackets for drugs. One was a 177 IIRC. I think they randomly tested some and then tested the placers. I also remember they stopped at least some of it- Bob Dellinger telling me something to the effect of the difficulty of getting blood from a stone.
  15. You mean just a little older than Braeden Davis?
  16. The 70s/80s had lots of scoring. Not so much before that. The 60s rule (2 then 1) was an effort to REDUCE scoring by one team as compared to the rest of the country. Again, I brought this up to bring up the irony of Ok State possibly being the inspiration of both rules.
  17. Does anyone have a picture of this one? There were a couple and being old, I'm having trouble distinguishing without photo evidence/reminder.
  18. Tried? Yes. Rejected? Not sure if that's how to phrase it since it was only a similar rule then. It was instantiated because one school got a bazillion tds. The rule then was 2 for the first and 1 after. But that's similar enough to 3 for the first and 2 after now. And I brought it up more because of the OK State connection both times.
  19. I was just thinking about the match and what brought it about (other than the posed name of gable jinx for a third title). How much came from Taylor? I'm not here proposing if he's a better coach yet than anyone else. I imagine he would have worked out with gable and certainly saw him closer up than most over the international cycles and camps. He obviously figured something out
  20. It was called the Okie State (or maybe the anti-Okie State rule) rule for a few years in the 60s!
  21. I wondered if he thought his kid was tired. I did notice him breathing heavily just before that.
  22. Sheesh. Pretty much have to be good enough to get there the or four times but...
  23. I heard through some of the techies that some or a lot of the first session issues were from the Secret Service playing with the network.
  24. Off the top of my head, after they went to numbered divisions, Ken Mallory Mont St 1978 and Tom Martucci Trenton St 1981, Carleton Haselrig 1987-1989 There were several more from the small college division- most notably Clarion early 70s with Barton, Rohn, Schalles and Simpson. AAs would take a bit longer (and wouldn't be from memory) Just noticed the NY part- none of these from NY
