  1. I assume that since the Coaches Ranking isn't the only factor they can begin figuring out who qualifies without final ranking details.
  2. My take from the zoom is that since no wrestling took place in the combined 3 seconds he shouldn't. But ...
  3. Depends what you mean by alternates. If the replacement situation happens early enough (used to be Monday at 5pm) then I believe they redeclare who is 34th (I assume who would have been 35th) but as to on site- just the one.
  4. First- the scenario I described is quite new. I believe it was created the year after Suriano was somewhere downstairs drilling. But to answer the question, I don't offhand remember that happening, especially in my 20 years doing the bracketing. I might not have noticed before that.
  5. They declare a 34th at each weight. The schools pay to bring them. If someone fails to make weight (or pass skin check) the 34th is also going through the process. I believe they just bump everyone up until the missing seed is filled and then put the 34th in as 33rd.
  6. I can't tell if you're trolling with some of these questions but to get the muscles firing. He's very fast twitch- possibly the quickest guy I've seen in years.
  7. I was on the NCAA zoom last week and this came up. The wording is you must participate. Technically defaults would suffice but what was brought up was that that doesn't mean the committee has to select you. They might well deem that you were showing that you weren't healthy enough to wrestle.

  9. NY is the only state that went freestyle as far as I know.
  10. Nothing to press for there. It's an 8 point differential in Step 1. 5 is the challenge limit.
  11. Cardenas won that matchup due to a lot of additional quality wins.
  12. Preseeds released to EIWAsite https://eiwawrestling.org/sports/wrest/2023-24/releases/20240305kn3fa2
  13. Shrinkage has nothing to do with my comment (although I like @ionel's post below yours). Yes, even a 7 strip 32' mat is 42- you can't get rid of any of it. But with a 30' circle you can eliminate one of the blank strips meaning 36' saving 6'. If you go 4 in a row you save 18'
  14. I made a pitch with the rules committee to allow 30 foot circles at Opens. Reasons for this- 1. They're doing it anyway. 2. It's harder to get a lot of 32s. 3. Because it's harder to fit them in to some gyms. The 30s made by Dollamur and Resilite among others are made in 7 6 foot strips. 32' circles go slightly into the outer strips. 30s have blank strips on either side so you can remove one of the two between adjacent mats and save space since there's still 6 feet between with a 5 foot rule.
  15. Technically, that's the rule both HS and college. One reason to do it that way is because if high seeds don't get pigtails they lose a chance at bonus points. It does become an issue when events decide to seed all the way down forcing high seeds to get byes. It might not be a problem in, say, the current EIWA with only one pigtail and most of them going to a lot of the same few lower ranked teams.
  16. Actual preseeds will be released publicly by tomorrow. By preseeds I mean there might be replacements after that. Coaches checking them out as we speak.
  17. That's a Medical Forfeit. You take the mat for a default and don't finish for whatever reason. A forfeit is when you don't take the mat at all for whatever reason.
  18. No question about that second sentence. Folkstyle stalling is more about penalizing. Freestyle is more about incentivizing and getting points on the board. They sometimes pick on one of them and hope the call works and someone scores. I don't see that it happens too often during the 30 seconds. I guess it would be interesting to see if anyone has done a study of what happens after. Don't forget that if you get called first- it can be an advantage if little other scores happen later and the other person gets called late in the match since you will get the last score.
  19. The actual problem with a step out rule (it's not a push out rule in freestyle) is how it would conflict with the current cylinder interpretation of folkstyle. You can't do both. It's when the second guy goes out that OB calls are now made.
  20. He doesn't mind that direction.
  21. What I heard from a friend in Florida was that he yesterday tried to get on the floor without credentials. When approached he went- Don't you know who I am?
  22. We have a winner! I scored ALL the points at NCAAs for 20 years!
  23. Here's a Lehigh piece of trivia- (and keep in mind that when the coaches heard the answer they wanted to throw things at me) What Lehigh person scored the most points at NCAAs (career)?
