I think he is taking a similar approach to Who's #1 that Flo does. He's inviting all the big names, but that doesn't mean they'll go. For example, Ono and Arujau are both cited there for 61 KG. Arujau is having a rather serious surgery today and Ono is focused on Penn State right now.

I agree with your initial take, it just didn't include Goin or Sollars - who are still 'just' R12/R16 type guys.

I agree with you, it seems. Below are their Wrestlestat rankings, which we all know are actually ratings based off results. Keep in mind, they don't include true frosh, who tend to not have any matches towards their ratings - so guys like DLock won't have anything to go off of at 165lbs. I always want the teams who are typically lower on the B1G totem poll to show out and get pretty good improvement. That said, this appears to be a saltier dual squad than individual. Wrestlestat Rankings (ratings): 125 - #16 Moran 133 - #66 Frazier 141 - #39 Porter 149 - #61 Butler 157 - #41 Lowery 165 - #20 Lillard 174 - #29 Gilcher/#66 Rogotzke 184 - #14 Goin 197 - #12 Sollars 285 - #43 Pavlechko Five NQ looks about right with that roster. I could see two more as a maybe, but that would have to mean everyone is healthy at the right time of the year and improving at a more drastic rate than their B1G counterparts. Both of those holding as true by the end of the season are rarely the case, unless you are Penn State, or Michigan's Team #100 and B1Gs are at home.

Has a high school ever had a better big 3 than McCort?
nhs67 replied to Truzzcat's topic in High School Wrestling
Not projecting success, just merely stating that Davison's 2005 team had 11 people who went on to wrestle D1 starting for them that season. Would have had 12 had one of the twins not essentially retired out of HS. Don't recall why he did that, but 11/14 is rather impressive. Only two (Metcalf/Reader) would have been in consideration for P4P discussions. -
He is our U20 61 KG guy. Legit just won a world title. So he is closer to 133lbs than 150lbs right now. Much closer.

Was it definitively 97 KG? Zare is Iranian...

I think he is already at 675? By season's start? Let's say 684.5? The guy who knows lifts in me wants to say under. The guy who knows he is 30lbs heavier and considerably more powerful just because of that wants to say over.

Parris has a history of not doing well with the chonkers, too.
-
Deshazer is too big, I think.

He won a title his Junior year, yeah. He lost to Jordan Thomas (Greenville/Michigan) his Senior season. Thomas was widely considered the 2nd best in the state for years there, behind Taylor Massa. He ended up bumping up to avoid him (they were also very close friends). Thomas is one of those 'what if' guys. Had his shoulders stayed true, he would have been nasty for Michigan.

Voelker up to 197 for Northern Iowa. The Mantanona brothers at Michigan, if they're going 174/184 and not 165/174. Whoever goes 157/165 for Michigan (if the Mantanonas are going up), will have be new to the weight as well.

I can one up you... Luke Cochran (Central Michigan) VS Lucas Cochran (Penn State) actually happened. Lucas won.

He has a helluva name to live up to. Needs to grow a beard first, yeah? Lacking the beard.

Also, this is Snyder's replacement: https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/fighters/144301-alexander-romanov

That matchup intrigues me. I want to say the gender gap is too wide, but it's Maroulis. I can't just say that with her, at her weight. She'll have length, experience, and skill on her side. Even if she gives up strength/speed... I like it. Also of note, this is an OPEN weight match. Henschel wrestled 141lbs and was a favorite this year to win the 141lb in D2. Keelon wrestled 160lbs in high school and was about a 0.500 wrestler his senior season - which was like 2015? So he's 28, older, slower, and not as good. I am not convinced that he is THAT much bigger, though, either. He looks lean. Also, fwiw - he is a great watch on his videos. Seems an all-around awesome guy.

It just keeps getting weirder with Steveson
nhs67 replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in International Wrestling
He never wrestled at Michigan. -
In the grand scheme of things, the HS weight class in-between is something new in the last 20 years or so. The jump used to be 189 to 275. Additionally, the NCWA does have 235lbs as a weight class in between, so there is that.

Clearly when people (it's me... I am people) are talking about the behemoths, they are talking about the guys who need to make weight (Akgul/Geno internationally, Konrad/Wood domestically), not the guys who are under. Otherwise, when I had said 'we haven't had a behemoth since Konrad' I would have included Rey, because he was in that ~270-275lb range. Zare being 'like' 260 puts him right in that range of everyone else we have at that size. Parris, Steveson, Kerkvliet, and Pindrickson are all in that 245-260lb range. Size isn't an issue for us right now. We have the guys at the perfect size. That said, some of our guys do have a problem with wrestling those bigger guys (Parris). It isn't just about weight there, it's about body size/type. Also, Snyder is out of his RAF match. News broke yesterday. I'm sorry. I was really looking forward to that, too. If anything, I would have preferred Snyder slim down. He isn't the perfect size. He is short and stubby and it is why he has trouble against many of the new 97 KG guys.
-
Zare isn't a bigger guy, though.
-
It means that Snyder won three in a row while weighing 225lbs, even taking out a two time defending champ his first year at HWT. Cassar, being 229lbs at NCAAs took out Gable. We haven't had a behemoth win HWT since Konrad.

Ah cool, love it. I agree, although I think Deakin might be a bit bigger right now? AOC is fighting at 155lbs, isn't he? Ah, okay. Not sure how it would go. I heard Amine was injured, hence the reason he was out, then I heard rumor that his recovery might not be going as well and retirement was being considered? There are those on here that swear that Nicky Skeletor is warp-digivolving past Nicky Pushups and into Nicky Bulkjob to go 65 KG for 2028. Gross even when he isn't competing seems to always be wrestling, so that would be a helluva match, I agree. I think anything 155lbs+ is just going to be Zain all-day. He might not be competing at the same level, but he is active in the CLAW league. Until we see Johnny D against someone who isn't way out of shape or someone who we'd send as a medal contender, I have a hard time seeing him winning. I would still watch 10/10 times, though, as Johnny D seems to wrestle him so damn well. Alirez, I think, was hampered by injury as well, right? If he is back to form (or improved), this match would be fire. I think Glory has been working Wall Street since his title, hasn't he? Would be cool to see him give it a go, though. This would likely be a bloodbath in MFS. I think Nolf, if he competes at RAF again, will have a FAR different approach to it. I don't think he took any of it seriously (in a competing mindframe). He was just there for the fun. Give him a camp, and he destroys Wick - all due respects. Monday as well. What is Sloan doing? I do believe Warner is proper retired isn't he?

Which teams have some good weight class battles?
nhs67 replied to flyingcement's topic in College Wrestling
Transfer/Cut should be the last one. Start, Redshirt, Transfer/Cut (they're removed from the roster). -
I think SGH = Synthetic Growth Hormone? Not sure.

~10lbs. He weighed under the 213lb limit the year before for 97 KG. I don't remember how much under, I just remember it was under.
