Marcus Blaze tech pinned his way through the findlay open (almost entirely a d2 and d3 event). The reason I made this thread is because 1,2,3 at 133 were high schoolers the weight had the 3,5 ranked guys for d1 and the 1 guy for d3 returning national finalist. The runner up Ryan Kennedy and the third place guy Jace Morgan both took 7th at the grappler fall classic about a month ago which is a very tough high school tournament but probably not a top 5 one. Grey Burnett also majored 2x division 2 AA Shane corrigan in the finals, Burnett took 7th at 120 at super 32. This is a long winded way of saying it seems like even the less credentialed high school kids could go out and compete with the best at least at the d2 level which is why I think we are seeing true freshman have such success early on. Tyler dekrakker also won the millersville open over max leete in the finals Jaydin o Farrill of Mccort took 2nd (I don't think he makes the Mccort lineup this year)

Barraclough is proving to be the AA threat we all thought he would be if he could find himself in the lineup. At a weight where it feels like MM and everyone else I was thinking that Barraclough may present him the most issues. He is very good on the mat, is pretty good at slowing matches down and was in the room with him for a year.

Renteria could AA this year he was undefeated last year (small sample) but he did beat Richie figs in Febuary which I think is notable because we all know what Richie did in March. That said spratley has had two nail biters which is more on brand for what he did last year than what I had hoped for this year.

The match being competitive is probably the biggest cause for concern to me. First match of the year at a new weight so can't take a ton away from it but between this and his US open showing I wonder if he's not going to be as prolific at 133 as he was 125.

SVN looked incredible, Henson is the only guy that I think may be able to handle his pressure this year. Feldman is not in that top 3 convo unless he makes jumps during the season like last year Parker is going to have to wrestle Carter from space more to have a shot Jore Volk looked damn good I don't think Jesse loses to BB ever again Two horse race at 174 but I think that was already assumed Kasak looked good not sure I think hes a title threat yet

they put far too many matches on this card for it to start at 7:00. Not to sound like an old man but I don't really want to be up until 11:00 watching.

FLO Video of the 2008 Olympic Team?
Truzzcat replied to RandolphTJones's topic in International Wrestling
the oldest video in the archives is the program from 2012 that I could find. They have a 2014 film about that 2014 world team but no Cejudo. -
Could we have two high schoolers on the 2025 world team?
Truzzcat replied to Truzzcat's topic in International Wrestling
I would guess he starts at 157 but probably goes up to 165. The consensus seems to be he will have to work to make 70kg again next year. His strength is definitely a huge asset for him so Id like to see him grow to 165 rather than come up from 157 to 74kg. -
Gable Steveson returns to college wrestling
Truzzcat replied to VakAttack's topic in College Wrestling
WWE requires a push from the company to become relevant for the most part if hes just mowing through people in mma people are going to watch. If its to cheer him on or watch him lose. People want the heel to lose in the WWE but there isn't a real shot they will get hurt or knocked unconscious at least intentionally, there is that element in MMA. Ultimately if he is good at MMA it's going to be hard for him to not turn heads. -

He's 24 he could wrestle through 2028 cement his legacy make a good amount of money and then transition to MMA at 28 as a 2x Olympic champ which would immediately make him one of the most marketable guys out there. -
Any word on paniro or Yonger being back for Iowa?

Pretty sure people debunked both davis vs nagao and facundo kasak as not happening. However I have no idea had someone aside from minnow reported I would not question it but he's a moron so I have doubts. I don't know why Nagao would be wrestling off if he is med shirting. He also reported that Facundo beat Kasak 8-3 which seems like a crazy margin to me, but he could have gotten a big move.

I'm sure it certainly did not hurt his decision-making process. As much as I am not a PSU fan and want a bit more parody in the sport at the college level, going there was almost certainly the best thing for his international aspirations. I did think training with Mendez every day would be invaluable but perhaps he views him as more of a competitor for 2028.

Bassetts birthday is August, 2006 he is 18 I may lose my mind if I see his age mentioned again he will graduate at 19 turn 20 before his freshman year. Yes he is old but its not something that has not been done before and will be done again.

Different sports but with all the Rutgers chatter I think it is worth noting that they were able to sign the 2nd and 4th rated kids for the 2024 high school class in basketball. It would appear that they have some serious NIL money floating around somewhere. I'm not sure if that necessarily means it's there for wrestling but worth noting none the less. His cousin Mason is also a freshman there this year.

I just thought it may be worth noting that Japan could very well have the second best guy at 61kg as well. Yuto Nishiuchi lost to ono 3-2 at their version of nationals and he is a 2x u20 world champ notably beating lilledahl 5-0 in the finals in 2023.

So so happy for Sammy to even be able to get back out there. I don't know that we will truly know where he's at until CKLV if he opts to wrestle there. The first 3 dates on the schedule do not have NCAA qualifier caliber guys to throw out against him.

Marcus Blaze Commitment coming tomorrow, where to??
Truzzcat replied to H82Lose's topic in College Wrestling
The Iowa injury thing is so tired. Spencer tore his ACL his senior year of high school and missed most of his junior season the year before that hes just had injury issues the way Iowa trains had nothing to do with that. The only other guy I can think of that had nagging injuries for them is Kemerer but he and Spencer are both young guns products so if we are citing all this data off of two guys then maybe its a young guns problem. Iowas main issue to me has been a lack of development in attacks and scrambling. Guys don't really seem to develop their offense there to the same level as they do other places and they always seem a bit behind in the scrambles. Bo has a lot of offense and is a good scrambler already so I think they can probably take what he already does well and just weaponize it even more. -

125: Lilledahl 133: Davis 141: Blaze/Perry 149: SVN 157: Duke/Kasak/Facundo 165: MM 174: Haines 184: Barr/Cunningham 197: Mirasola 285: Mirasola/Transfer every person in that lineup besides Haines would have one more year of eligibility at least for the following season. Next team race maybe 2030.

Flo Leaks Blaze to PSU Ahead of Announcement

great for his development, unfortunate for any college wrestling fan that's not a PSU fan. -
I did not feel like Cael was giving maximum effort in those it seemed like every time he turned it on Mitch was on his back. Cael probably has 40lbs on him though. Cael was top 5 in 2011 DT is still top 3 at a very tough weight so I think DT by however he wants at this point but prime vs prime I have no clue.

Gable Steveson returns to college wrestling

what's shocking is he's still only 24 so 2 years younger than Daton was when he graduated. Also means he could potentially have two more olympic cycles left in him.
