And when they added multiple turns and when they added step outs. Techs are a lot easier to come by in Freestyle. I love almost everything about the current freestyle rules, but I would personally like to see us go back to one turn and then you have to change holds. We got to see a lot more great wrestling IMO5 points

Iowa fans have long clamored for a pushout rule in folkstyle. Well in Mocco vs Mirasola the wrestler who scored all the takedowns lost and the wrestler who won scored all his points on pushouts. Putting aside that the Iowa recruit lost, did Iowa fans enjoy seeing a match decided by who was better at pushouts?2 points

This board had argued this time and again majority of fans don’t like freestyle majority of athletes don’t like freestyle. most “wrestling” Americans don’t care if we do better in worlds or Olympics and we’re already a world power so there isn’t much more we can improve on the world stage I posted #s to back both up last summer maybe. Not going to look up the thread….. very very small % of wrestlers make it to the wtt level. You’re ruining a sport for more athletes for a few more / better medals. It’s selfish on the freestyle peeps part. pretend this is in caps: you already have a freestyle season. Use it. you don’t have to wrestle folkstyle if you want to be a oly champ… you just can go to Colorado or a rtc no one is stopping the super elite from being super elite. Freestyle is everywhere. Go wrestle it if you want to. leave folkstyle alone. You will ruin it for 85+% of the fans.2 points

Iowa fans should be stoked. Mocco, a junior in high school, got 3 takedowns to 0 against Penn State's starting heavyweight. If Kueter is healthy for the next three years, and then Mocco taking over, they are set for the foreseeable future at heavyweight. Whether Hawkeye fans want a push out in folk or not, there isn't one, so you favor the guy getting all the takedowns. Plus, I don't believe they really want that rule change. I mean do you really think Hawk fans want to start yelling "passivity!" 500 times per match?2 points

Stopping illegals at the border is a good thing. Not being impeached is a good thing. It is an R house so he won't be impeached for 2 years unless he really screws up. Addressing DEI is a good thing. Why would anyone be against hiring the best person becauir they are the best person? If we say we are hiring based on skin color or gender, not merit, then we admit we are not hiring the best. There is no reason why people of color or women cannot be the best. Don't we want the best to fly our airplanes, control our airspace, drive our busses, etc? Seems imminently obvious. mspart1 point

JMO but I feel like I’ve seen PSU fans on BWI or whatever they’re calling it these days talk negatively about wrestlers more often than Iowa fans on HR or whatever they’re calling it these days. The Iowa fans do like talking negatively about the PSU fans though1 point

They were never pseudo-science. Pseudo-science consists of claims without any supporting evidence, like a lot of stuff that Dake has espoused (earthing, anyone?).1 point

Pyles had it right, but was coming from the wrong angle. Dake lost in part because of the difference in size, but it wasn't the size difference with Valencia; it was the size difference with himself. I still chalk this one up to Dake adjusting to the weight. We thought Taylor looked like *I poop my pants, don't laugh at me* right after he moved up to 86, and even Sadz took a minute to adjust after bumping up. Dake may not be our rep this year, but he'll be our guy at 86 by the end of this Olympic cycle, bye-to-the-finals bitching be damned.1 point

If you think Dake's a huge complainer on the mat now, just wait until he's in a corner with bricks to throw1 point

Its a pretty thin weight for us right now. McKenna is tough but he's sort of a gatekeeper-type guy, who's now THE guy since no one can get past the gatekeeper. Would be great to see someone suddenly explode to another level. Would be fun to see Blaze here, or Gross. I think Nick Lee has the best chance if he's been training and goes, with Mendez the leader of the younger crowd, but I don' see a medal here. Hard to imagine this isn't Green vs Yianni again. Duke is the only one I can see getting past Green, and that's a longshot. Yianni can medal but he's so hot/cold. Hard to see anyone beating Carr, but O'Toole could if he's healthy by then. Or Haines, but not sure he wants to take on his teammate. Another MM-Carr shootout will be great. A medal's plausible; about 50-50. Can someone from 86kg please drop down? We're weak here. Wick is another gatekeeper-type guy who's paid his dues but not our strongest option. Really it should be Dake since he's not an 86kg'er, and even if he can get by Zahid it's a sin for one of these 2 guys to stay home. If Dake doesn't drop, maybe O'Toole or Haines? Starocci's too big right? I'd love to see a Nolf or JB comeback too. JB never retired right? No medal unless Dake drops or Nolf/JB makes a run, or maybe Chance. If no one drops (and assuming no Brooks), it's Dake v Zahid again. If Dake drops, Keck/Chance battle for the right to challenge Zahid, although it would be cool if Starocci made a run as he'd be right there. McEnelly too. Zahid can medal but man, he needs to get in shape, big-time. Such a thin weight. Hidlay is good enough to medal, but not win. I haven't heard the story on Brooks. Why wasn't he at the Open and why is he an open question for WTTs? Is he hurt? I'm assuming he's at 92 since that's what everyone says, but I never heard him/NLWC say it. Regardless, if he comes back, he wins this and medals. Otherwise, I don't see any other challengers here unless one of the 86kg'ers go up (e.g. Keck), Barr/Starocci show up at 92kg. Obviously it's Snyder all day, but didn't Ferrari say he was going to wrestle freestyle in the offseason? He's the only one I can see making things interesting. (Barr's too small and I never heard of Buchanan doing freestyle.) Snyder should medal. Is Parris hurt? Hopefully he goes, and I always hope Gable shows. I'm assuming Kerk won't be back from surgery yet. If none of those go, Keuter's good enough to make Final X. My guess is we see Parris/Wyatt, which could go either way, and the winner takes world bronze/silver.1 point

Peace coming in Ukraine is a stretch. Trumps "deal" is so bad for Ukraine that they have decided to not take it. And Putin's response to the "deal" is to keep bombing. Committed is also a stretch. There have definitely been promises made, but I would like to see promises kept. On the flip side. No President in modern times has had a worse performing stock market. And this poor performance is of Trump's creation. He cannot blame anyone else for this (though he certainly will). Inflation expectations are higher than they have ever been as a direct result of the impending impact of tariffs, and Trump's lack of foresight to stock pile before starting a trade war. That implies that there was any planning at all. There clearly has been none, and this is all whim. As a result, Trump's approval rating after 100 days is the lowest in 80 years.1 point

More stalling should be called for sure, but not (IMO) for driving a guy out of bounds. If you're not shooting for takedowns, you don't deserve to benefit from stall points.1 point

I didn’t count specifically but I bet 90% of the techs are 10-0. A few were 12-2. Rarely if ever were they a good match like 24-14. The scoring in freestyle today is silly. Please keep all of it out of folkstyle.1 point

I honestly don’t care what they do with their product as long as they stop trying to corrupt the folkstyle product.1 point

The tech fall criteria did not change when they went to a 2 point takedown. So it was harder to get a tech fall unless you could gut or lace your way into oblivion. mspart1 point
