  1. Didn't you see history being made? When was the last time a three time state champ was disqualified in his quest for four because he went into the stands to help his father fight? Can't be more than two or three times.

  3. Someone on HVI asked me to calculate the odds of PSU finishing with just 1 champion. Here is what I came up with. There are a couple ways to look at this. Using odds generated from the entire field between 2010 and 2024, and assuming the current Flo rankings will also be the seeds, the most likely outcome is 3 champions. There is even an infinitely small chance of 10 champs (0.0000172%) But PSU has always performed better than the field. If we use odds generated from PSU's results over the same time frame, the most likely outcome jumps up to 5 champions. However, the odds of 9 or 10 go to zero as PSU has not had a #4 or #8 win in that window. In this scenario there is even a 32.5% chance PSU breaks the record and finishes with 6+ champions. Nuts. The big difference is the #1 and #2 seeds. For the field including PSU #1 seeds won 52.14% of the time, but PSU #1 seeds won 80.77% of the time. For the field including PSU #2 seeds won 19.29% of the time, but PSU #2 seeds won 42.11% of the time. Of course, the B1G tournament results will go a long way toward determining the actual seeds. I will update this at that time.

  6. RIght now I'm looking at doing the draft on Tuesday evening, maybe around 8 or 9 EST. Anyone having an issue with the date or time? As of right now, here's where our league stands: PRIOR PARTICPANTS WHO HAVE CONFIRMED THEY WISH TO PLAY AGAIN Me. @MPhillips @flyingcement @Idaho @nhs67 @MizzouFan01 @lu_alum (thank God) @JVStateChamp @RockLobster @Perry @steamboat_charlie @Truzzcat PRIOR PARTICIPANTS WE ARE WAITING ON @Antitroll2828 @jajensen09 @Gage WAITING LIST @BruceyB @okokzach @scorenomore @killdozer @MM2018 @charmon55 My plan as of now is to start moving waiting list people into the open spots sometime around Conference weekend (I haven't formally decided the date yet). 8. I don’t know if I believe that Brands is #2. Iowa, the name, draws in recruits. Most of the recent top-level success on the mat, minus Lee, is from transfers. I just don’t see the development there.

  9. This story got so big that my dad, who still has no idea what a tech fall is after seeing over a decade's worth of matches, texted me about it. I feel for Knox as a Shore Conference expat and a fan of seeing history being made, but actions have consequences (which Anthony has seemed to acknowledge in his IG post). That being said, the reaction on both ends of it is frankly disgusting. That little story time group of kids from District 25 is undoubtedly cringe (like any of them wouldn't piss their pants if they saw Knox in public at this point), but Minnow's cult group glazing him to ungodly levels ain't much better. I guess I shouldn't expect much coming from a guy who calls Focus a "class act" and only wants rules applied to wrestlers that won't benefit his social capital in the sport. Kid ain't a hero, and I doubt he would be treated as much if his skillset on the mat wasn't as good as it is. I hope the best for Knox in college. It would be a shame if this was the beginning of a descent and not just a footnote in a tremendous career.

  11. Random thoughts: Spencer looked huge compared to Ono, but Ono just too fast. He did give Ono his closest match of the past year though. Carr did a nice job but exhausted at the end. Japan's sportsmanship is 10/10. Bassett is annoyingly well-spoken and likable. Frustrating to not see Bryce pull the trigger. Gross is just a bad matchup for DeSanto, but I respect how much DeSanto has matured. Flo's videos leading up to the event were awesome, and it looks like they really filled the arena, which is great too. Thanks for doing this Flo.

  18. One of the best pieces (actually two different videos) I've seen is Jason Nolf breaking down and discussing in detail the Ono vs. Lee match. He both talks about what Lee does well and shows what Ono is likely to do, including how Lee might reasonably respond. Nolf is a master technician and tactician and is clear with his explanations. Here is one of the videos:

  19. I have mixed feelings on the issue. There is a lot of pressure (from media and fans) on Iowa and their role in college wrestling when they already take on arguably two of the biggest out of conference duals with Oklahoma State and Iowa State (as you mentioned). Obviously UNI and Iowa would be good for the sport, especially considering the in-state rivalry, but it's not Iowa's job to wrestle every top program in the country. PSU wrestles essentially nobody outside of the conference schedule and they don't receive nearly the criticism of Iowa.. Cael just gets credit for creating a schedule that helps his athletes peak for March.

  24. the fact that the discourse is that this team "had Anthony Knox thrown out" is ridiculous. Anthony Knox (and his father) are the ones responsible for themselves getting thrown out. Imagine a wrestling tournament (or any sporting event) where the concept is that if a fan in the stands is talking trash, you and your family members have the right to go fight them. NCAAs could be even more exciting this year when you think about all the parents in the stands starting fights, and wrestlers running up to join in.

  32. As long as the kids actually establish residence in the state I don’t see an issue with them competing at the state tournament. The Herrings were also move-ins but they’ve been living there for years at this point. But in NJ I believe most of the guys at Delbarton, Bergen Catholic etc are actually from NJ anyway. I think the reason Blair isn’t part of the state tournament is because it’s a boarding school, so a lot of the kids don’t really live there. There’s also only one class for the state tournament in NJ. Putting the private schools in the small school division in PA is silly IMO. I really doubt any kids were deliberately trying to get Knox DQ’d, but considering how much SJV kinda dominated (looks like they were also the only North Jersey team in a district full of South Jersey teams) I’m not surprised if they were happy about it.

  33. Too bad Brands refuses to wrestle UNI, or else maybe we could’ve seen him against Keckeisen

  34. I just felt compelled to comment to all the guys saying Angelo Ferrari is a "national championship contender this year". Technically anybody who makes it to the NCAA tournament is a "national championship contender". But I'll winnow it down to those guys who use that phrase to declare a guy an imminent threat to win an NCAA title. I don't think Angelo fits that mold. 1. He was pushed around and couldn't score an offensive point against the #1 guy. 2. He went into SV1 to defeat Plott, who has never come close to beating Keckeisen (and who has been majored by Keck in most of their matches). I think Keck would decisively beat Ferrari. The way I see it Angelo is, at best, a #3 guy this year at NCAAs. Still pretty great for a Freshman, but people are getting a little too amped.

  35. Sinclair is very good. I think he will be in the mix. And yes I know Plott handled him this year.

  36. Not sure if this is true but I heard someone say it looked like they would send him if Nebraska didn’t send Smith (Nebraska also weighed in 2 guys at 125)

  37. I think parity is overrated. I like when a team is so dominant that it unites fans of the other teams against it. That was Iowa for a long time, now it's been PSU for a long time. Back in granddaddy's day it was Oklahoma State, lol.

  38. Seems like a stretch, what with Bo having his senior high school season next year...

  39. I feel like kennedy at least in theory has enough offense to pull a few upsets, Brands seems very average to me, solid, but he's not outstanding anywhere. I think he was in last night because he is big an physical enough to slow down hamiti.

  40. Psu can send back messenbrink kerk and ngagao. Osu and Michigan can send back their transfers. Same with ndsu. Fark it. It’s almost like every team is using the portal. Weird.

  41. You keep skipping that word. But I expect no less than intentional obtuseness from the King of Intentional Obtuse.

  42. They just landed Bassett and have Deluca coming in, you want to maximize your years with all 3 of those guys. He is at best third this year, but next year he will be I would imagine one of the bigger pre-season favorites unless Barr sucks back down and even then, I think he's the favorite.
