  1. Stieber 6 because he was clearly taken down at the end of the 2012 finals. He wouldn't be a 4-timer if replay had been used. Dake 1 because 4 different weights + the DT wins. Did it without a redshirt season!

  2. This was exactly what he was doing. He was attempting to hang onto the leg to avoid the tech. On bottom the wrestler is supposed to try to escape from the bottom position. He was attempting to remain on bottom for the remainder of the third. It was the correct call.

  5. Carter in his 6th year and will be 24 in a few days. Couldn't get a takedown on a true freshman in his fourth appearance. Give the Hodge to whoever wins heavyweight

  7. No. There are a bunch of threads every year bemoaning how duals don't matter any more and that needs to change. Now we have a rule that lets redshirt freshman participate in those duals. If you make their individual results not count then you have to rescore the dual too. It is not tenable to have a result count for the team, but not the individual.

  9. In his junor year at Iowa State, Dan Gable was a reported 31-0 with 29 pins. The non-pins were by scores of 25-6 and 12-1, in an era before tech falls. He also pinned all five foes at the 1969 NCAAs that year and was voted OW.

  11. We don't want a push out rule, but we award pushing without actual attempts to score. Additionally, we don't want to reward pushouts, but if you can get OB while someone is in on your leg you get a free restart. Makes perfect sense.

  12. A new twist on the Fireman's Carry? Kasak looks like a fireman carrying an injured guy out of a burning house and signaling to his family that he is safe.

  13. After tonight's test. I wonder if he completes the full season including Big Ten and NCAA finals with tech falls in every match. It's probably a coin toss.

  14. Couldn't, or didn't? Answer: Didn't need to. He doesn't make the rules. If you know you have a riding time point in your pocket and you can control the mat on your feet, you just work backwards and are aware that at worst you win 2-1. He has won a lot of huge matches in March with low scores and my read is that he looks at a match against a top competitor as an opportunity to hone that skill. Boring, disappointing, add your similar adjective and you'd be right. And even though I'm defending him I won't be rooting for him. But I'm not going to disrespect him or argue that somehow he really lost a match that he totally controlled.

  15. Or he could just tell them about the fly fishing and hunting. I bet those Wyoming kids spend at least twice as much time outside as the east coast boys.

  16. Branch is doing pretty well considering what he's got to work with. Imagine his pitch to hot HS wrestlers: "yeah, we're within a thousand miles of an RTC and it's colder here than a witch's titty 90% of the time. Going outside is a pretty bad idea for 5 months of the year, so get used to some pasty-albino chubby chicks around the university swimming pool. There is nothing to do in the state of Wyoming if you don't plan on joining a white supremacist militia or herd cattle. We do have lots and lots of cold, open space".

  19. The most in the 10 weight era is 6. Oklahoma State did it in 1962 and 1964. Iowa did it in 1986, 1991, and 1997. Penn State did it last year.

  20. If you’re a fan of wrestling you give it to mm or someone other than cstall. Mm destroyed #2. And not for the first time. Cstall couldn’t take down a true freshmen. He hasn’t dominated at the ncaa tourney. I think his bonus % at the ncaa tourney is a paltry 20%.

  24. In the 7:40 one he even lifted him up for a fraction of a second. Considering this was his second ever match against a D1 starter, I think if he was the guy at 184 and got more matches under his belt that I wouldn’t be surprised if he took Starocci down. But alas, it appears it is not to be.

  25. While this list has grown over the years it’s still a pretty exclusive club, which is why it’s surprising that another 4 timer is not listed here….the very first one.

  26. How are any of you putting Stieber at 3?!?! He got pinned by Ramos, taken down in the finals and handed a Natty, lost to a True Freshman as a RS Jr( who I have ranked higher collegiately than Stieber). Stieber is without a doubt on the bottom of my list. With that said, what an amazing list to be the bottom on. And 159-0 will always be #1. Not only did he never lose, he never almost loss either. He controlled every match.

  27. As I said earlier he still had a ways to go, but 7:40 and 1:45 were probably closer than almost anyone has gotten to taking down Starocci, and both were off of Ferrari’s own shots.

  28. I don’t have a dog in the fight…I just enjoy watching good wrestling. I think it says more about the sport than about Carter, but, the strategy to push Angelo out because he’s a rookie and doesn’t grasp the concept of “artificial” stalling isn’t fun to watch as a fan. Even without that, Carter won with the riding point because Angelo wasn’t able to get out on bottom (needs to be worked on more in HS). From my point of view, the entire team went balls to the wall to try to score as many points as possible with tech’s. Nothing against Carter, but I guess I expected him to do the same against a true freshman instead of just squeaking out a win. He could have taken more shots, but it felt like he was just doing enough to win. Again, nothing against PSU here, so the faithful can pi$$ off with that talk. Just my opinion as a bystander. For someone that is great, I expected more. Sans the fact he could be under the weather, which I don’t know. Regardless…great match by Angelo.

  29. There were no surprises in the dual. One observation, why does Beau Bartlett have to keep every match in suspense until the last minute. He will wrestle to a 3 point decision if he's wrestling #1 or number 230 ranked wrestlers.

  30. Perhaps some posters here have been indulging in the top shelf spirits more tonight than usual. (As opposed to the lower shelf stuff some of the NWT folks tend to imbibe on a more regular basis.) Doesn't really matter. We came together to have a good time. To quibble, to squawk, to piss, and to moan. IMO, there isn't much more we can ask for than that. It's been a good night of wrestling.

  31. Kudos to the acknowledgement... Bro, You had to tip toe around the house all week just to watch the dual and you can't stay charged... If you're a chick... Agreed. Make up call. First Stoli at 3:30. Just finished watching the dual. May have napped... Agreed. Perhaps we're not as sophisticated here at the College Wrestling forum as the folks over at the Non Wrestling Topics forum... Enjoyed the thread Boys. Cheers...

  37. I don't know Starocci is one of those guys that knows how much he needs to do to win. I didn't think that the match as close as it was, was ever in doubt.

  38. Did Starocci take an offensive shot in the match? A potential 5x champ wins via a stall point over a true freshman.. Yuck.
