Let me tell you something, brother! The 60th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Wrestling Tournament is about to feel the power of Hoke Hogan and the Hokemaniacs! I’ve trained harder than ever, and I’m not just here to compete—I’m here to dominate. Every slam, every hold, every move will echo with the energy of all my Hokemaniacs out there! So what’cha gonna do, brother, when Hoke Hogan and the Hokemaniacs run wild on you?!4 points

As a staunch supporter of booze in all forms even I can admit it does not help my wrestling.4 points

My goodness can Trackwrestling and whatever THAT THING that Soldier Salute is using as a bout board piss me off any more? Do you want to "View Final Result?" Yes I want to view final result. That's why I'm here! "Do I want to continue?" Of course you awful computer program! There will be a Letter to the Editor. The good news, though, is that West Virginia has a wrestler at the Midlands named Hoke Hogan. If Virginia Tech doesn't offer him a million dollar NIL deal, I will send a second Letter to the Editor!3 points

@ionel this is your chance to start the Angelo vs Arnold thread before Cinnabon. Make sure to include that if Angelo wins and gets the spot PSU is now a clear underdog. They're extremely vulnerable2 points

Or follow Askren's advice? If you want to go to Iowa, go someplace else first. If you do well, get paid to go to Iowa.2 points

Alcohol is on the decline these days among the youngest segments of consumers, with more kids not drinking by choice. Same with traditional tobacco. Bigger challenge might be cannabis, which I think the NCAA now allows. Dunno if individual schools have been relaxing the rules as well. Imagine how recreational weed might mess with weight cutting, lol.2 points

In the age of streaming, I would think all notable tournaments would use the format of front side matches on specific mats, and backside on others. Having to hop around 8 different mats is such a headache.2 points

Peterson won 7-1. Some other semi interesting results I see so far: 133 - Sean Spidle CMU over 4th seeded Angelo Rini of Indiana 141 - Danny Martinez SIUE over 4th seeded Eli Griffin of Cal Baptist Eligh Rivera Princeton over 6th seeded Anthony Santaniello of Pitt 149 - Dylan Gilcher Michigan over 4th seeded Ryan Burgos of Edinboro 157 - Rutgers had 2 seeded wrestlers lose in the first round. 7 seed Conner Harer to JT Chance of George Mason and 9 seed Michael Cetta to Logan Rozynski of Lehigh 184 - Abraham Wojcikiewicz (sp) over 3 seed Maximus Hale of Penn Not sure how to attempt to watch some of this, there’s 8 mats and not sure if any rhyme or reason. At least Soldier Salute has one choice with Shane Sparks skipping around2 points

If you don’t drink at all, there’s no “should I?” moments. Fewer decisions, better sleep, fewer recovery days, more mental energy for other things. That’s a pretty clear advantage for anyone trying to outperform their peers at a high level whether it’s athletics or at your job or whatever.2 points

It's easy to use in moderation. Personally I stick to international rankings series tournaments and kids bday parties on the weekend. This schnoz stays clean Monday through Friday thank u very much.2 points

Two things are true: Yianni is too precious about this stuff AND this situation is very different (from what we know) than the Vega situation.2 points

hook line and sinker like the left that fell for every single thing the msm served them only to find out it was lies time and time again. like that? you're a full fledged moron so stuck to party politics that you choose it over truth.2 points

Remember when a certain NCAA finalist was kicked out of ISU for inappropriate conduct, and found a new home at PSU? Remember when a freshman national champion got into some trouble and found his way (albeit briefly) to Iowa? If we're going to pretend like a kid hitting a vape pen while underage is the same as being arrested twice in a calendar year for intoxication related charges is the same, then yes, quite the hypocrisy.1 point

You know who I'm talking about and what he was very specifically kicked out for. Ending up relocating to Stillwater to matriculate as a direct result. A coach can run his program however he chooses, but hypocrisy and rules for me but not for thee are wack.1 point

No the funniest thing about Soldier Salute was when Spencer boat raced Ayala and had some very, very pointed words.1 point

As said in other thread: don't forget Bob may be able to pull some strings & throw some cash and get AJ back. Yes 3 Ferrari 🏎 in the lineup its a slam duck for Iowa and we'll soon be talking about who replaces Cael.1 point

I'll be the first to say if Angelo Ferrari beats Arnold at Midlands and the Brands start him at 184 not only will they smoke PSU but they'll reclaim the all time tournament point scoring record. @Jimmy Cinnabon, you concur?1 point
-
I'd rather discuss this in your new thread. You have my full support and backing. Don't be too nice and honest like Jimmy Carter. Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity? To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment? Would you capture it, or just let it slip? Yo1 point

The worst thing about the Soldier Salute brackets is that they don't include mat assignments. In a tournament with 8 to 10 mats running at one time, they need mat assignments. The funniest thing about the Soldier Salute brackets is that when you roll over the brackets with your cursor, it gives you the score and the time, but when you click on "Details," you also get the country. So far, all of the wrestlers have been from America.1 point

Brands has not struggled to produce AAs, homegrown or transfers. He has struggled to produce champions.1 point
-
What caveat did I use? I went back to 2019 because that is the last year that still has relevance this season, and I'm not including bringing in transfers as developing your own AA. And yes, Little Rock has produced more All-Americans than Iowa in this stretch. Paying for another school's AA to wear your singlet doesn't give you credit for developing an AA. But hey, if failing to develop recruits and then shelling out money to stay relevant is your idea of success, then rock on Iowa.1 point
-
The hawkeyes haven't had a #1 recruiting class since 2012.. And I'm not disagreeing that transfers are a part of the game, but the idea of transfers is to fill holes in your lineup.. a la Penn State. Iowa brought in four transfers and still has two holes in their lineup.. I'm not saying they're dead, far from it. but I don't understand how anyone could look at their last five recruiting classes and act like it's not a concern. I'd love to see what other consistently relevant teams have managed to only turn one recruit into an AA from the classes of 2019-2023. Regardless of the sentiment, "the game changed so you adapt." I'm bored enough that I quickly went through the big boards from 2019-2023 and made a quick list of schools with 2 or more AA's from their own original recruits. I'm sure I'm missing some schools or athletes. OK St - Ferrari, Plott tOSU - Welsh, Feldman, Mendez, Kharchla, D'Emilio Cornell - Shapiro, Foca, Cardenas Michigan - Ragusin, Amine VT - Henson, Stewart, Ventresca, Andonian, Latona Minnesota - Vombaur, Nagao, Salazar Iowa St - Swiderski, Frost Lehigh - Stanich, Crookham NC St - R. Jack, Ed Scott, Orine Missouri - KOT, Rocky, Elam Nebraska - Taylor, Lovett Arizona St - Figs, Schultz Wisconsin - Hamiti, Barnett West Virginia, Hall, Waters Rutgers - Shawver, Poznanski Little Rock - Bailey, Little So at least 16 schools have produced more home grown AAs during this stretch. Transfers are great, but they don't win you a National title or in the conversation with Penn State unless you can grow your own AA's to compliment them.1 point

Bla. Bla the game changed so you adapt. Where did messenbrink come from ? Or kerk. Or nagoo. Or truax. Or dean. it’s a fact. They have had the #1 best results over time not counting psu.1 point

On top of the other issues, smoothcomp refers to the consolation brackets as "repechage". I thought here in 'Merica we call them wrestle-backs or consolations.1 point
-
When it comes to their NCAA placement, sure I'll give you that. But how about incoming recruits? How about development of those recruits? Their 49, 57, 65, and 197 pound wrestlers are all products of prior environments. Their four most dependable NCAA tourney point scorers aren't even from their own program. Looking back at recent recruiting classes.. (not including 2024 or 2025 classes because they haven't competed yet) 2023: Kueter and Arnold are both Freshman starters and have a lot of upside. 2022: 0 AA's and not a single recruit on the starting roster 2021: 1 AA. Ayala is the only contributor from this class. 2020: Zero AA's and Patrick Kennedy is the only relevant name, and he has yet to AA. 2019: Zero AA's and zero current starters. In their last five classes, only three recruits are currently in their starting roster.. and just a single recruit has reached the podium in march. They have two promising freshmen, so they may help break this trend.1 point

Yeah it looks like it was not on the actual Soldier Salute website at all (which is strange to me). It does appear to exist on that bracket site you shared earlier. I have never heard of that site before so I have no familiarity. It also doesn't show (as far as I can tell) how each victory was achieved (points, pin, etc). And when I clicked on one of the videos to see if I could watch a replay, it said it would be available after the tournament at a price of $9,999 . So that website itself is a bit odd.1 point

Agree, you’d think in 2024 viewing brackets would be more simple. Apparently Martin Floreani is now starting a bracket company too, so if he can keep the conspiracy theories out of it maybe that could be a solution1 point

I’m out at dinner so can’t really look up. I’m under the understanding smiths finished over the last 5/10/12 or so years are statistically much worse than Iowas. No team not named psu has a better standing on average than Iowa. Making a mountain out of nothing imo…. This thread showing up year after year after year. I think it’s Just many don’t like the brand’s intense personality….. and many don’t like Iowa from back in their glory days. notice. Cinnabon style the op just plopped his negative comments out there to stir the pot and hasn’t said a peep since. Classic troll thread.1 point

What was frustrating to me was that once I finally found that mat assignments, I was hoping they would separate consolations on certain mats and 2nd round on other mats - this way you can stick with three or four mats through the round without having to jump around.1 point
-
Trackwrestling has two-deep mat assignments for Midlands. Given that they are at the upper weights, it's likely they had three-deep when there were three matches scheduled on a given mat.1 point
