Lifetime sport where anyone can pick up a ball and throw it into a hoop (not necessarily well) vs. a combat sport with nuance rules, multiple styles and a sports culture that didn’t grow up competing it it. We can learn some things but ultimately, it’s a tough sell to convert people without prior experience in the sport and we have this habit of turning off our own people to it as well.5 points

You missed the biggest one of all. They recruited Truax over a 3x champ. Forced him to bump up if he wanted to make the team. Real cold stuff from Sanderson.4 points

I loved Bo's performance. Great wins for a young guy in a tough tournament. The Valencia win is the most impressive, he's committed to becoming an elite Freestyler. The Ashnault win is fun because we can say "national champion" but let's be honest. He really hasn't transitioned to freestyle all too well, he was never going to make it a full match (He needed to get a lace or something early to have a chance), he's on his way out (I assume 1 foot out the door realizing how far he is from a shot at a world team *See Eiermen)... And Bo is a great freestlyer, and hungry, a cadet world champ, blah blah blah..... PEDs SCHMEEE-EDs.... just Clubber Lang vs Rocky the first time2 points

Looked like he tried to get knuckle deep into the eye socket. Then buried a shot into his gut after time is up. Brands looked composed despite all of this. That last sentence has never been uttered and probably never will again.2 points

I have said this for years.....anybody can shoot baskets or play catch with a football or baseball, but how many can just go out and wrestle....they might get dirty, break a sweat, rip their clothes and could easily get hurt. I watched WBB this year mainly due to the Caitlyn Clark and then the Reece deal, so that probably helped a lot. A good friend of mine, who was a great Hawkeye wrestler said he had never watched so much girls basketball. I remember in the early 70's, ABC, along with Frank Gifford, focused on Dan Gable, actually did a special on him and his training leading up to the games which included Ben and John Peterson. It did create some interest in wrestling nationwide, but it can't just be a one time thing. Gifford liked Gable so much, that he wrote a book called "Gifford on Courage" (which is in my coaching library). This book included Dan Gable. Also, most of the media people out there, didn't wrestle. Again, they have the basketball and football mentality. That doesn't help the cause. I have to say, the BTN was great this year, which helps and ESPN covered the whole NCAA tournament, but the average viewer isn't going to pay for, or follow wrestling when it's split up between ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU......I'm at NCAA's, and I tape it too, but most people aren't going to follow our tournament on three different formats. I also do think Flo and Track help us....although though they have a number of critics. It's too bad ESPN couldn't focus on a superstar in our sport, like Gabe Steveson, Aaron Brooks, Kyle Dake, Jordan Burroughs, David Taylor, etc. like they did Gable....it would be great for the upcoming Olympic Games, and wow, how about the upcoming Olympic Trials. The first thing wrestling needs to do is figure out how to stop these coaches from holding wrestlers out against other ranked wrestlers. It’s hard to build a story line that casual viewers do not understand.2 points

125 - Ayala 133 - Crookham 141 - Mendez 149 - Sasso 157 - Haines 165 - Messenbrink 174 - O'Toole 184 - Keckeisen 197 - Cardenas HWT - Hendrickson I only have 2 PSU champs next year, but the overall depth of the team will likely have 7+ AAs making it hard to beat them. Yes, I know, I pulled out the hollywood script for Sasso.1 point

Carroll's dad responded to one of my posts earlier today on another forum and said "He will be at 197 for sure next season". End quote. He will be lean and mean, he looked fantastic today, sharp and quick as hell.1 point

Chamizo shared the ending of his match, it was close, they conferenced gave him 2, got challenged looked like 2, everyone thought 2...... then they reversed it. Wild ending https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5eD3-CsGC6/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==1 point

away from Bo and Jax I thought Christian Carroll looked outstanding he may be able to push for top 5 at trials and could be an absolute monster at a pretty cleared out 197 next year.1 point

I missed that. At least the French helped us against the British in the American Revolution. Belarus would be far less welcome on a singlet lol. But I'm not actually upset about it - I was just surprised by it. I guess respect for another person can transcend politics in a way that I should be happy about.1 point

Forrest was at 127lbs all this last season. 57kg is clearly the right weight for him and that’s where he went. Not sure what fluctuating you are talking about. He doesn’t look particularly strong but clearly he is, and his technique is just so on point. Bassett was at 138 all year, but I think he was more of a 132lber, and was wrestling up to make room for Mason Gibson. When he entered college tournaments this season it was at 133. I think it’s pretty clear he would have gone 61kg if it was a weight class, unless he grew a bunch in the past couple months. In any case, he is plainly at a strength disadvantage with the 65kg guys. I think it likely made a difference in the Kolodzik match.1 point

I assume they swapped with other wrestlers at international tournaments. For example McDanel won the Deglane in France back in January so I assume he got it there. I don’t see the problem with it as it’s just an OTT qualifier, not OTTs. However I might make an exception for Knox’s Belarus singlet, since they are banned for invading Ukraine. If Belarusians can’t wear a BLR singlet should/can anyone else? Probably would have been better to leave that singlet at home.1 point

It's quite annoying how Salk and Kadi are better and have a much higher chance to win an Olympic medal than both Bayramov, Chamizo and anyone who was in their bracket, but were both placed in one bracket, separated from the rest.1 point

Bassett just teched an undefeated 149lb national champion at 65 KG (143.3lbs) as a 138lb high school soph in the first period. It wasn't even close. Shnaulty had nothing to make me think that match goes the othet way, at all - ever.1 point

I'd want it stopped there too if I made up things like "shouted down."1 point

The politicians and media is good at misinforming and making issues out of nothing. It's easy to assume that a team misses the anthem due to player protests, given how frequently the narrative has been presented. LSU says that is not what they did. Okay fine. There is still discussion to be had. There is a difference between not knowing any better, following orders, and showing intentional disrespect. Some deserve a pass, but the other deserves to be called out. Could the remarks about shouting down, rage, and anger actually stem from individuals projecting their own insecurities and defensiveness onto others? Without direct callouts, I assume the remarks include me as a target. I don't feel rage. I feel disgust and dissapointment... similar but more intensely to how I feel when someone doesn't wash their hands after using the bathroom. These comments remind me of my daughter. When I call her out for neglecting her Covid dog, her response is anger. This is a defensive reaction to protect herself from discomfort and guilt.1 point

I hear you, but is Rogers anything more than a longer term stop gap? He was a blue chip recruit but wasn’t able to beat out Jaden Bullock. I’d rather see what Valencia can do at 184 and insert at proven short term solution in Bockman at 197. Reassess, and reenter the market next spring.1 point

Sadly, I only see one commitment for MSU and that kid got throw off his high school team.1 point

Goodness, how many years did we say that about Minkel! They haven't had an All-American in what 6 years??? They compete against Wisconsin, NW, Ind, Purdue, Maryland, and ILL yet they have had many more AA's in that time. Also don't see any AA's for MSU for the forseeable future.1 point
-
With all the complications MSU is getting in the other sports, specifically the revenue ones, you aren't going to see it unless Chandler and Co do something dramatic and stupid. There is no reason to. There is no urge from administration to be in the Top Tier or Two... hell even the third tier.1 point

This is why I will never pull for him, RBY, or any other defector. There is no way in hell I'm supporting anyone on an International Level when the Red, White, and Blue are there. Zero, zilch, never. It shocks me that this is even a discussion of this matter.1 point

UWW actually has a development restitution rule for Olympic, World, or Continental medalists who switch countries. The idea being that the athlete's new country should pay a one-time fee to compensate the old one for the training and development that they spent on a wrestler, up to around $350k USD. If RBY (for example) won Olympic gold and decided to come back and compete for the US, it would be pretty funny if Mexico's national wrestling federation (FEMELA) invoiced USAW $350k in training and development expenses. Oh, the fireworks!1 point
