@Dark Energy asked "what about The Other Guys?" in the Big Board Big Boys thread. And he wasn't talking about Allen "Gator" Gamble and Terry "The Yankee Clipper" Hoitz. He was talking about the teams that do well recruiting outside of The Big Board Top 20. But before we get into that, a shout out to The Brain, @Husker_Du, for setting me up with a better, more complete, and higher quality, consistent data set for The BB. He was kind enough to fill in the blanks for me and replace the years Flo attempted to replicate his Brain, with his actual Brain. So now there are little bits of Willie all over these rankings. Read on if you dare. Breaking down The Big Board into groups of 20 and merging it with the AA data we get the following Kings of the Quintiles below the first quintile. Northwestern and Missouri have done the best mining the wrestlers ranked 21 - 100 (plus and honorable mention) with 14 AA's from those ranks over the past 10 recruiting classes (2013 - 2022). However, it has been a struggle to keep these guys, as Eierman, Rivera and Micic all transferred. The other teams with double digit AA success are Virginia Tech and NC State. As expected there are not a huge number of NCAA winners from these quintiles, but there aren't none. The deed has been done five times. Nino Bonaccorsi at #30, Max Dean at #74 and Ryan Deakin at #97 we know about. But there was also Darian Cruz (#37), and Seth Gross (#47).3 points

Anyone else think UB might be a bot? He simply repeats the same thing over & over but finds a few different words or video links to support his programed response - uncle bot3 points

The Clarion Open gave us a look at a number of phenomenal young talents with Blaze over Forrest...then Ramos...grabbing our attention (understandably). But did anyone notice Brandon Cannon (tOSU 141 true frosh)? Cannon missed half his high school career while battling cancer but he was a phenom early in his career and the time off doesn't seem to have had too much effect. He was a tough out for Mendez in the wrestleoff and he ran through the field en route to the finals yesterday at Clarion where he'd have faced Mendez again. Instead they agreed to no contest. One of the sharper guys on Ohiowrestling.net posted this reminder about Cannon: " Freshman year. Beast of the east champ over a tough field that included one of the top recruits in his class in Marc Anthony McGowan. Then health issues occurred where he could barely walk and lost 20 pounds and nearly didn’t survive. He took off 22 months of wrestling during a crucial time in his development. Senior year wrestles Ironman in a very very deep bracket and had the 13 seed and tough draw. Tech falls Ohio division 2 state champ. Beats number 4 ranked mason convincingly. Beats Bouzakis convincingly. Beats number one Bailey and only loses a one point decesion to kannon Webster. Wrestled four straight top 7 nationally ranked kids. The same Webster who defeated mendes this past offseason. Of course you want to see him prove it at the college level in opens but his body of evidence is that he is a very elite wrestler and probably has more upside than any other recruit bc he didn’t wrestle half his high school career." When I watched him yesterday, he reminded me of, well, Blaze. Doesn't look like much but he has excellent technique and his pace and pressure tends to wear down opponents including the #2 seed whom he defeated rather easily.3 points

Now we want the left wing nut job teachers to indoctrinate the kids with their financial opinions? Wow! You sure are putting a lot on the teacher that you don't even trust with choosing appropriate books.2 points

I see what the OP is saying here. The fanbase has repeatedly anointed YD as the next American great, based on his results leading into his Senior level career. I don't think those people were exactly making a stretch on their hopes, but I also don't think the OP should be blasted for pointing out YD's senior level results either. It's not like his dad is on here going on and on and on about how YD walks on water and that USAW should be clearing the way for his kid. That said, I think all of this goes to show just how freaking tough it is out on that Senior circuit to consistently make national teams, let alone earn medals. That's no slight against young John, and even he knows that nothing is a given for what he hopes to accomplish. Musukaev sure as heck isn't getting any worse. I, for one, hope he does win some World/Olympic golds, as he works his @$$ off, and is a really good dude to boot. #TeamYianniD2 points

Its not the same society as it was when people try to make the 'personal responsibility' argument. But they never acknowledge that. Why is that never taken into account? Cost of housing, education, and many goods/services were a much lower % of income. Lowest tiered employees made a wage that could afford all that stuff. Often times with just one income in a household. Jump ahead to today.(doodly doo, doodly doo) Lowest tiered workers are in 'Right to Work' states and can be fired for even considering asking for a higher wage(or being LGBTQ+ or athiest or any different religion or for ANY REASON WHATSOEVER). Wages have not risen at near the rate of inflation for years and years. So they are essentially paid less and less each year while having to pay more and more for the things they need to live. More and more people are paycheck to paycheck with less and less saved or, heaven for bid, invested. Housing and education costs are higher % than ever. As one party is clamoring to cut public school budgets or threaten librarians. All to further the narrative that the school system doesn't work, hasn't ever worked, and needs to be changed. We're trusting the people that broke it, to fix it, and they tell us that we never really needed it or that it'll cost too much to fix. But they have an idea of where all that sweet sweet public school money can go.... (drum roll) FOR PROFIT or Private (often Religious) Schools. Its not an integrity things. Why is that the knee jerk reaction? Seems a bit lazy. (old man yells at cloud, kinda thing) Our economy was in shambles. We were attacked. We rallied. Spent unknown sums of money to ramp up production for a huge war effort. Sent millions to Europe and the Pacific. Won. Decided that it would be a good idea to educate and house those millions that came back. Spent that money and built the economy back up in a huge way(google it). Decided in the 70's(before then, even) that we didn't want EVERYONE to take advantage of education or housing so the attacks started. Where from I wonder? (cough cough, the right). I know it can be easy to vilify a group of people for, supposedly, needing/wanting a handout. But if you step back and look at more of the moving parts you get a better idea of why that attitude exists. The war on education, making it seem like only elites try to get educated. As if its a bad thing. Why would anyone say something like that? What could their motivation be? Possibly to appeal to a group that hasn't and probably won't benefit from higher education if things stay as they are. Who are those people? Poorer white folk AND the near entirety of the black community. Which two groups are pitted against each other most often when it comes to just about every issue in politics? Those same two groups. One of those groups is much larger than the other. So it would benefit a party to keep one of those groups happy with their station by making it harder and more debilitating to achieve anything through education. As well as demonizing those that would advocate for education, as elite or soft or privileged. Is education any of those things, really? No.2 points

No sir, I do not know. Just know that it was Terry from the dual. Of course Minnow was blasting out all kinds of crap out saying that Terry wasn’t at the dual because he was mad at Iowa, mad about Nelson’s gambling situation and he applied for UNC job because the relationship is fractured with Iowa. Then I commented on it and said that it was Terry that was at the dual and not Tom and he deletes all his posts about it. LOL if you are not right, just delete it!2 points
