Noel counts for NY. It’s based on where the wrestlers list their hometown. Mark Hall listed Apple Valley, Minnesota, so he counted for them. It’s up to where the athlete (at least in recent years) go. Ed Ewolt started my list in the 1970s and I think he used whatever was listed in the program. Bartlett counts for whatever he lists on his Penn State bio. I do have HS stats dating back about a decade and am working on back filling that data.

The ILLINI Wrestle-offs had their share of surprises yesterday. We have some of the results--and we think all of the final results--at this link. There's also Super 32 news involving IMAR, Lucas Byrd, Seth Mendoza and a bunch of ILLINOIS lads in the quarterfinals or fighting it out on the backside. Finally, we are spotlighting ILLINI Wrestling Babies. Regular babies are okay, I guess, but ILLINI Wrestling Babies are AWESOME. Okay, we'll divulge a couple of the results: Kannon Webster beat last year's starter at 149, and Braeden Scoles beat the starter at 157 from two years ago. Looks like both the Brawlnagels are taking Olympic redshirt years, and Lucas Byrd is taking a medical shirt. That explains Tony Madrigal's transfer from Oklahoma. According to eyewitnesses, he was fantastic in his wrestle-off. He had to be as Kole Brower is a tough ILLINOIS kid.

The news of Lucas Byrd being on medical RS was a rumor I spotted in the summer on twitter (x?) but until now had no idea if true. He's one of my favorites and will miss his wrestling this year but Madrigal/Brower is a great set of replacements

All the school board hoopla on sex Ed is the same argument as CRT was. Mostly imagination and even - hypothetically - if it weren't, it isn't wrong. Just parents who don't know the arse from a hole in the ground. Woodland Park, CO (mentioned above) is an interesting case. They elected some far, far right wing folks to the school board, which is their right. They then said they were going to "flood the zone" with changes so they would get at least some of their changes before law suits could stop them. Most of the carnival barkers at school board meetings can't even do this because it isn't what most of the parents want, plain and simple.

Pushes... These parents provide feedback on sex ed, CRT, etc. at school. A study was commissioned on a nationally representative sample of 1,505 yet-or-recent high school graduates about CRT and Gender Identity topics. Reportedly, here is the Stanford wrestling situation nowadays: ***Three top-5 recruiting classes, a substantial regional training center (RTC) structure and group of athletes, and additional scholarships funded through self-endowment. Meanwhile the wrestlers have an average GPA above 3.5, "exemplifying the balance of academics and athletics for which Stanford stands."*** Meanwhile ACC affiliation will give them annual competitions against some academically motivated universities including (but not limited to) Duke, UNC & U.Va. Unfortunately Ga. Tech. does not presently sponsor wrestling at the NCAA D1 level, but the Yellow Jackets were recently ranked as either the best deal for the tuition dollars or the second best. Meanwhile Cal: Berkeley also does not presently sponsor NCAA D1 wrestling. And I'm not aware that Southern Methodist University (SMU) ever has. But maybe that can change. I think ACC teams will be very happy to have Stanford in their circle of wrestling rivals. As we know, rivalry can be converted into friendship in our great sport of wrestling during the off-season, and beyond. And there is no doubt that folks on each of the ACC's 3 coasts would like to get some experience studying and / or working on AT LEAST one of the other two coasts someday. If only they can afford the travel despite budget cuts... Either way, Rob Koll appears to have left behind a solid base after he inherited a program that was all but extinct. Hopefully he can keep wrestling alive at his alma mater in Chapel Hill, and enable it to increasingly thrive (and hopefully welcome Stanford's entry into the ACC despite UNC's, Clemson's & Florida State's reported prior disapproval).
