#18 Pitt falls to #3 Iowa State. 16-15 Total points criteria decides it. As dramatic of a dual as you'll see. Damn Great Dual on a Saturday nite!!! D34 points

As the finest wrestling state in the country, a title in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania stands above all the rest. Therefore, a PA championship is worth a title in the other 49; thus the legend of States was born. Win one in Pa and you have won all the “States”. (Due to the inclusion of world-wide US entities: Puerto Rico, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, etc. there is a referendum vote in the next election to consider an ever great title.)2 points

Wow! Ramirez sprint to the end w/ a 10-6 win over Monday. (Monday's 1st loss of the season.) Action packed by BOTH wrestlers... AND THIS WAS THE OPENING BOUT OF THIS DUAL!!! D32 points

While Gardner over Karelin was impressive and covered well at the time, not sure it was a bigger upset than Slay beating Satieve in freestyle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buvaisar_Saitiev2 points

Glory would be smarter to wrestle Lee on Fri night, will he be smart enough to throw the correct number of matches to secure the 4 seed?2 points

I do think it's weird that there's an actual, in the flesh, "Bubba" on the Nebraska roster, and he's not one of the two skinheads. And I don't mean that pejoratively, those guys just have skin on the top of their heads where most folks have hair. And that's not to say that other people don't have skin there, they just have hair covering up that skin. Insightful work right there. Burwick can’t get off the bottom. Allred is for real. It is ridiculous that there is not a reporter at the end of the dual to ask Manning, “Why 2 backups and no one at 149?” Wrestling media coverage is so terrible.2 points

Big televised match. I would think a big TV personality might appreciate her son participating in it. Could be a way to further the Con$uelo$ family interest in Michigan wrestling success.2 points

This was definitely one of the largest wrestling crowds of the year at the State Farm Center. maybe the biggest of the season, actually. This is a large arena, and they only started holding the varsity wrestling meets here last year. I think Z. Braunagle could have won had he not picked down in the third period or not made that mistake that put him on his back. Who knows, maybe he was too tired though. The OT match with Ruth and Labriola was amazing. Ruth wrestled better, IMO, but gave up three takedowns after taking deep shots on each of those three but losing a scramble after a successful counter from M.L. No need for excuses though, Nebraska was supposed to win anyway. I don't know if you can discount the final score due to a forfeit or any lineup changes - illinois didn't wrestle Carr at 157, for instance. What was the reason for the forfeit, anyway? One thing is for sure. Illini needs to drill finishes off of an opponent's whizzer for the postseason. came up so many times tonight.2 points

Shouldn't that inspire a new thrrad for you? Something like "Now that Starocci has given up a TD he will never win again"?2 points

Watched the Warner match last night. He has been a tough competitor and accomplished quite a lot. A few times now it seems like his heart is not in it. I sure he wants to help his team, but we can all understand when the grind gets to a wrestler's mental and they have had enough. I am not blaming him just noting my read of his demeanor and performance.1 point

My point was at B1G last year Brooks was really the only guy that did worse there than at NCAA’s. I guess you could argue Kerk, but they also had Berge get 3rd from the 10 seed. You could certainly argue Hildebrandt, who had gotten 4th the year before, “faltered” at NCAA’s by scoring half a point. They had 3.5 points total between 125, 149, 157, and 165. But they didn’t need them because they had 5 champs.1 point

I spotted Cronin standing next to Manning during the stream. My guess, this was a classic case of seed protection duck. Disappointing. I think Cronin would have won that match1 point

RBY could possibly lose to the Speed of Light if they wrestled. He has tech-ed the Speed of Sound already, however. Aside: there is a 6 minute video clip of FLO making the case that RBY is the fastest (I would say quickest) wrestler in the NCAAs today and maybe of all time. I think it's a hand's down case at least for the former claim and maybe also the latter. He certainly passes the eyeball test. And I would love to see him grapple both a mongoose and cobra at some point. https://www.flowrestling.org/collections/10273249-rby-straight-outta-tucson/video?playing=104744841 point

The Wisconsin dual on 1/15. He lost 17-10 to Gomez, but had him tired at the end.1 point

I *think* it could be a cut issue. He wrestled last HS season at 152, if I recall correctly. D1 is a grind, especially if he's cutting hard. Of course, it could just be the grind. Guy is a true freshman, he was bound to take some lumps. It happens.1 point

The fact that you had to pay to watch this dual is an absolute joke. I was looking forward to it since it was first announced but I refuse to pay for Rokfin out of principle. I already pay for Flo, Big 10+, Big 10 network, ACC network and I live in New York and got Rutgers season tickets which is 2 hours away from me in Jersey just to support the sport since they are the best "local" team even though I have no real allegiance to them, just to watch as much wrestling as I can. I paid $100 for Rokfin last year and the price went up already to $150 this year then you have to pay extra on top of that for their "ppv events". I support wrestling as much as anyone I know and I feel like they are trying to bleed me dry and I've had enough1 point

All of yours was good, but this is going to be the star in my post-match recap. There must have been 10 or more Cornhusker shin whizzers, and I don't think the ILLINI scored on any of them. On the other hand, I think Nebraska scored at least once, maybe twice, while defending with a shin whizzer. That was pretty exasperating. If BTN doesn't move their cameras, then the ILLINI fans need to sit on the other side of the mat next season. There were some Orange Krush there tonight, but the majority of the fans were never seen by the cameras. The place will be hopping in a year or two. Maximo was pinned. He switched positions from the one he was in against DeAugustino. Yet, here, the refs didn't call the pin, and they specifically said that "near fall criteria wasn't met." So, whatever happens, the refs will not let Maximo score points. That must be in the rulebook somewhere. The B1G refs need to have a class on this position. Sort it out. Then, be consistent. Burwick is a tough kid and will easily make the NCAA tournament. He must have been told to avoid Byrd at all costs tonight, though. Brock Hardy is a really tough kid. Federico's takedown of Peyton Robb was very nice! He got gassed and stuffed after that. In my optimistic mind, though, I'm thinking, "If Anthony Federico can take down Robb, what might Mikey Carr do?" During his match, Labriola looked fine. Before the dual, Manning had two Huskers shake hands at 174. Nebraska must have been a little worried about the outcome of the team score at the time 174 started. I think both Ruth and Labriola will have very nice NCAA tournaments. That Lenny Pinto fellow should be disqualified. His underhook to the crotch might not be illegal, but it is surely against the Man Code. You just don't treat another man's meat and potatoes, his block and tackle, his man berries like that. It's just not cricket. I thought Zac Braunagel was too nonchalant in his match. He will always beat that guy from today on forward. Awesome to see Wroblewski with the pin on Senior Night. Finally, it was nice to see Dylan Duncan in the crowd. Cheers!1 point
