The problem I think Shapiro has is he hasn’t wrestled in any tournaments this season. The only tournament he’ll have been in before NCAAs is Ivys. Going through the grind of having to make weight multiple days in a row, wrestle multiple matches etc is not something you want to only start doing at the end of the season. I guess this is a long way of saying given his limited mat time the past two seasons, durability seems to be the real risk for him.

If he’s healthy, winning it all won’t be a surprise.

Shapiro cuts very little weight.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

He will once again be injured & not win it all.

Then accuse someone of being on steroids and all the Cornell fans will say he’s still the best guy even though he doesn’t win again

The Ivy league tournament shouldn't even be considered a qualifying tournament for the NCAA finals.  The tournaments we joke about like the Soldier Salute or the Cyclone Open have stronger fields.  Cornell is committed to wrestling, Penn half assed committed and the others couldn't care less.

Shapiro wrestling no one all year always give him a gaudy record and he always disappoints at Nationals.

He took 3rd as a TRFR and 5th as a TRSO after dealing with some very, very, serious health issues (not injuries) where he was off the mat for extended time leading into conferences. Sure, he's disappointed in the view that he was talented enough to win both brackets.. but cut the kid a little slack.

Shapiro quickly approaching Spencer Lee territory where it’s literally never his fault when he loses it’s “injuries” meanwhile 60 percent of the ncaa field every year is dealing with some type of ailment.

Did Shapiro go to college early? Bc wrestlestat shows him going 15-0 for spartan combat then stepping into the lineup the next season so not really a “true freshman”

Shapiro wrestled at Spartan his senior year in HS, so really a true freshman.

Gotta love calling concussions “injuries.”  Clueless.

Terrible take...

Only people that always have an axe to grind around here with Cornell for some unknown reason always try to find ways to put their guys down. After Shapiro is done they'll all be going after Joy. It's like clockwork and whatever sour grapes they have can be spotted a mile away.

He had multiple seizures and was hospitalized in early 2025 and wasn't even sure if he was going to be able to wrestle in the post season last year.

Saying that saying Shapiro "disappoints" every year at NCAAs is a little bit of a stretch considering 3rd as a TRFR is a very strong showing, and that last year he was off the mat for extended time leading into NCAAs. I'm not really a fan of Meyer after the whole steroids accusation last year, but I'm also not going to call him a letdown when he's placed 3rd and 5th at NCAAs with two more years to wrestle.

And yes, to your other post, he was a TRFR in 23-24 as he was the #1 recruit in the class of 2023.

For a guy that many, myself included, expected two titles out of by now it isn't a terrible take.

Shapiro is so fun to watch, but he wrestles a style where he throws his own head around.  He's not just unlucky; the way he wrestles is inherently high risk for brain injury.

He dropped that style last year to avoid such issues.

It is a terrible take when you consider he took 3rd his true freshman year and then almost died in the hospital and by some miracle found his way back to wrestle in the tournament and took 5th. Judging everyone by whether or not they win 4 titles is absurd and I don't think everyone was talking about him coming out of highschool being a 4 timer. A contender yes but you act like he had the hype of mark hall which he certainly didn't.

I was sincerely asking if he skipped his senior year or not.

To your concussions comment. It’s not like he was wrestling with a concussion at ncaas or lost by inj def. he was cleared by doctors and wrestled yet many still blame his loses on the concussions when he was healthy when he lost.

Concussions are no joke I’m not mocking the concussions but if he was cleared to wrestle it means he wasn’t still affected by it. Shapiro is 49-6 in his career and one of the best guys at his weight every year he doesn’t need an issue made every time he loses just like Spencer Lee didn’t need an excuse made every time he lost

I have been disappointed too many times, easily the most aesthetically pleasing guy to watch maybe in the world but I refuse to be hurt again.

When wrestlers play the skip the fall semester game then Cornell doesn't wrestle anyone in the spring, it's easy to question their schedule.  Shapiro probably won't face a top 10 157 pounder until Nationals.  That's a light, light schedule.

Bro what are you talking about.

Cornell wrestled in the national duals and then the cliff keen. Those are bigger tournaments in the fall than Penn state wrestles in and I don't see you criticizing their fall schedule... You can criticize duals because they are in the Ivys and have to have a certain amount of league duals anyways.

And to show that you aren't following facts, his first match back was against number 7 ranked Webster from Illinois Dec 21st.

Are you intentionally trying to skew this conversation a certain way because you are clearly not being factual in the narrative you're trying to create.

Has nothing to do with hating Cornell or Shapiro. Has to do with the reality of his health and injury issues. He is very good, right near the top of his weight class. Problem is, he is injury prone and doesn't get the job done when all is on the line. Maybe he should have gone to Iowa? (not really)

He has a ton of talent & apparently is a hard worker but that isn't enough. Head trauma & he is still pushing on the mat where he faces a good chance it happens again.

As for losing to "steroid users". Apparently they test negative just as he does.
